I just exited the program. First time on the server, the all were playing Protoss and I lost every single game on 1 base, to the early zealots or to one dragoon. I didn't know what the f**k to do, and in the longest game I played, two Carriers entered my base. And it wasn't that long, you know?

Any way, I suck, I'm depressed, I'm going to bed now.

My first time was horrendous as well, but over time I got better, and more recently I've been beating D+ players and starting to comprehend more and more timings when I can beat my opponent. Don't give up

Don't take it personally. Everyone starts out like that. That's what makes StarCraft such a beautiful game... The difference of skill between each level of player... Hell, top foreigners basically lose the same way to the pros. The A-class pros lose the same way to the S-class pros. No matter what you do in StarCraft, unless you're Flash, there is always someone much better than you. If you can accept that, you can have fun with StarCraft.

I feel like lots of people come into an activity wanting to be great at it right away. Activities with very little depth will reward that, but those aren't really satisfying in the end. If you try drawing for the first time, you will probably be terrible. That's what gives meaning to your progress as an artist. If you start playing rts for the first time you'll have 20 apm and not know anything about basic strategy. But isn't nice that there is actually a possibility to get better, because 20 apm isn't enough, and the strategy gets much more complex?

BroodWar is the best game ever made because of its skill ceiling (which does not seem to exist). Tic Tac Toe will never be taken seriously because there is an optimal way of playing which even a 12 year old can figure out.

Hey man, don't give up, you've just started, I'm in the same position as you, I lose to the early pressure in vP. I've recently started on IcCup aswell; maybe we could do a bit of practising, or I could check out one of your replays. Never give up, going on is winning half the battle. ^^

I feel you, but when you finally win a game, it makes it that much sweeter! Try practicing with 1v2 or 1v3 against the computer. It won't help you learn enemy build orders, but it will help you learn solid mechanics before entering the cold, merciless abyss that is iCCup.

Yea in sc1 almost everyone has had that experience where you just get stomped when you start out in multiplayer and it's crazy... then some of us rise up above that eventually and become decent :p

... and that can take years.

I'm playing iCCUP again and losing every single game.

A learning experience all over again, but I'm having fun simply because it's Broodwar.
(I have lag due to antihack and w7 but I tell myself that I lose because I'm bad)

If you want to practice against Protoss aggression against an extremely mediocre player, I'd be willing to help you out. PM/reply if you want to practice. (I haven't played enough games on ICCup to fall to my rank, so I can't tell you what it is.)
<@Wikt> so you are one of those nega-fans <@Wikt> that hates the company that makes a game and everything they stand for <@Wikt> but still plays the game <@Wikt> (like roughly 30% of blizzard's player base, maybe much more...)

For me, I put getting D+ on ICCUP as a highlight of my gaming life, and its true what the others say, when you win your first game, it will feel like nothing else you have ever done in a game, I won my first game by cheesing in the middle of the map on andromeda, and this was when I was playing games on one of my 6 or so smurfs so I didn't have to stay at D- for long.

Dude when I quit bnet and joined iccup I thought I was hot shit. I was like 50+ wins and 6 losses. I got STOMPED like 10 games in a row my first season on iccup. Its tough. But it got better as time progressed.

I dont wanna sound like a im being a dick but is it your first time attempting to play BW? Cuz if it is Iccup is gunna be one tough SOB, I was never very good on iccup(D+ high) but if i was to try and start my BW career on iccup... I would prolly never have played BW more than one day

Iccup is such a bitch, BUT the reward is so amazing. I remember hitting my high rank of D+ after 40+ ladder games and over 200 practice games, mostly getting my butt handed to me time after time after time, and it felt freaking amazing. I mean D+ sucks right????? I promise you will rage, you will cry, you will be frustrated, but those moments of beating some smurfing B rank are totally worth it. If you need a practice partner I play toss, hit me up on ICCUP ID Blindjaco

I feel you man.
You're trying improve your mechanics and macro, but your opponent does something weird to throw you off.
It happens to me all the time.
But the mere thought of becoming good enough so I can tell what my opponent is doing and react with ease is a powerful motivator.
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

This is why I started on US west. Of course I never see people around any more that are as bad as I was when I first started.

As several people have already said, once you get your first win, you'll get the biggest smile you've ever had and will probably watch the replay about 10 times.
Why would I play sctoo when I can play BW?

That is exactly how my first 10 games versus protoss went.

My last four games I very nearly busted their nats and annihilated them with 5 hatch hydra (still lost all of them though cuz I fail at scouting for third bases...). Work on your build, it helps so much. This cannot be over emphasized.

Everyone and their mom is diamond and I heard there are some baddies in Master's that slipped through the cracks too.

I'd say C+ and up is pretty damn good in BW.

I think C is when you know what the hell you are doing.

SC2 ranks... *sigh* I don't even think they really count at the moment. Maybe "Grand Master's League" will show the true skill level of the top players. Then again we already know who are some of the top non Korean SC2 players are just by looking at GSL qualifiers or the TOP 200 list.

Everyone starts out like that, don't take it too personally. It does take a lot of time and effort if you really want to improve though.

Thanks for all the responses. Yeah. I won't give up, and I really wasn't expecting to win, but at least to know where their base was and seeing inside would have been nice xD
What got me frutrated is that I didn't learn anything and that I panicked. I mean, the most valuable thing I learned is that 2 fu**ing carriers in your main will kill everything.

But yeah, I know I have a lot to learn and practice in order to really play SCBW, and I definetily will!
Thanks guys.

By the way, if you're terran like your icon suggests, be aware the TvP is probably the hardest lowlevel matchup by quite a bit; you don't have too many gimmicky allins to fall back on and you have to be aware of every gimmicky protoss trick in the book (3gate speedzeal break, 2gate robo reaver, dt rush, bulldog, carrier rush, hidden 3rd, the list goes on)

edit: oh and before you protosses get on my back for calling some of these things gimmicky, I'd argue that any protoss at D or D- level is executing these things in an all-in way, cuz be honest, how many times have you seen a reavering or DTing D/D- protoss macro properly while their reaver or DT is out?
