Got anything questions, myths, or thoughts you wanted to know about the army? Or maybe just me in general? Well here's another one of those "Ask me anything" type deals but being apart of the U.S. military I can answer hopefully any questions for people about to join the army or people curious about the army.

Note* I know nothing of the Navy, US. Marines, Coastguard, or Air force. I know basically of the U.S. Army/ (U.S. Army National Guard mainly (as that is what i am.)

So hack away with your questions!

Were you issued an M4? If so, what optic were you issued? Do you like it? If you were issued an ACOG, what reticle do you have?

How do they decide what you are assigned to(regiments/brigades etc.)?
What is the maxiumum time you can be deployed?
For how long have you been deployed so far?
How hostile are commanding officers?
What do you fear the most?
How much of your training is physical? how much of it is mental?
Where are you currently deployed/have been deployed?

What kind of hand to hand combat skills are you taught?
How intense is the training and what were the exercises you had to perform?

What you meant was, "lol you're building an AR15 and you want opinions on optics from people that use them?"

Also, the M68 CCO is the Comp M2? I think it is.

If I go with Aimpoint I'm either going to get a Comp M2/4 or go for the T1.

What role are you in the U.S. Army?
How are your superiors in Basic, and coming out of Basic?
Are there group punishments in Basic, and how would you deal with someone else that made the error instead of you?
Venture Capital is better off spent on lottery tickets rather than investing in E-Sports; you'll get a far better return. The difference is simple: Koreans are tryharding at the game, foreigners are tryharding in real-life.

1. They just kind of put you where they need you the most based off what job you've chosen.
2. For me in the NG, maximum is 365 days, but it can be extended if needed.
3. I'm on my 5th month.
4. Commanding officers, heh.. the whole military is like one big family after basic really. Just make sure you stay with your customs and curtsies though.
5. Hmm really I fear that when I get back home, I'll be disappointed in some way.
6. I would say the training is both 40% physical and 60% mental.
7. This is my first deployment, in Camp Buehring, Kuwait / Iraq.

There's 4 levels of combatives courses, I'm currently level 1, and all that is, is basic how to defend yourself, and submissions on the ground. I know that level 2 is strikes and kicks and more advanced submissions.

How intense it is, is how intense you make it really, and the exercises you have to preform for combatives and rolling on the ground and a clinch drill at the end of it to get your certification for level 1.

And Probably up there in the top 15 of one of the BAMF on TL.

Basic is really just a mental challenge, if your in shape you'll breeze right through it, but it does suck being away from home all that kind of stuff that comes with it. It's fun, you meet new people from around the states.

I'm currently closing in in my 3rd year, and 5 months in deployed.

Pros, are definitely the free money I receive for college and my deployment so far, it'll be a big help for when I go into college next year. You meet a lot of new people make a lot of new friends. You get paid 24/7, So in reality I'm getting paid to work out, browse teamliquid, play starcraft etc ;p.
You get really fit as well if you keep up with it, which is always a plus. Also being in the army is an instant confidence booster, and +1 to charisma when being around women ~

Cons, you're away from family, friends, and doing what you love to do on your own time a lot. But it pays off when you finally come back home. That's all I can really think of. I do really miss playing the hell out of sc2/sc:bw and other blizzard/console games

Do you know of or have you partaken in any martial law related training drills (Or any drills relating to detaining/restricting the rights) potentially for large numbers of American people?

If so, would you say these articles are stretching the truth?

Sort of, It was one of the first few days in basic, it was a shower drill. They just kind of make fun of everyone though. If you just take it as a joke and don't laugh you'll be fine.

I joined the army for them to help me pay for college really, and I just ended up deployed instead first, and our mission is not for combat its for support now.

Testing, hmm mental tests to see if they can break your will, pretty much break down your discipline and act like a professional.
Physically, PT test depending on your age group, a set of 2 minutes of pushups and situps and a timed 2 mile run.

Can you give an example of the most demanding (or 2) Physical and Mental tests you had to undergo in Basic (how were you ~broken~, if you were)?

Thinking before and after military (I know you're not finished yet, but it's not like you haven't started), are there any detectable changes you can perceive about how your mind operates and how you think?

What are the biggest changes to your psyche that have occurred as a result of the military.\

Has your stance on certain universal issues/situations (war/violence/pre-emptive attacks/terrorism/counter-terrorism [yea I know it's a narrow question]) changed since? How?

In Switzerland we have mandatory military service. Do you think this is a good idea? Why should I go through it instead of paying maor tax untill I'm 50?

Lol judging by his demeanor, posts, etc. I don't understand some of these questions.

Not every soldier goes around shooting terrorists 14 hours a day, he's stationed at his base and he just goes about his daily business, he wouldn't be scared for his life, he's not killed anyone and he doesn't do things you guys see in rambo movies.

Here's a question for the OP then: What's your base like? Is it just like really peaceful with almost no danger of being killed?

Or do you guys actually go out on patrols and shit and people actually get killed?

Would you say "paying for college" is the primary reason for people to join the army? I'm interested in as to why people would enlist. What is the demographics of your peers in the army? (income/education level, race, etc)

To expect, hmm I guess just be prepared to get insulted (just don't take it personally) and get ready to exercise a lot. Also everyday is like a day in Gym in highschool but everyday is something new. If you liked gym you'll like the training.

How far can you throw a hand grenade?

He's actually a really nice guy, they become more friendly towards the end of basic, the tough guy act is just for show to break you and put fear into you.

Hand grenade, I sent it flying a good 80-100 yards

was thinking the same, well does size matter? I'm only 5'4 and around 130 pounds. Also are you mentality prepared to kill to defend yourself?

I ve seen someone who was 4 foot something and I don't know his weight but I'm assuming it wasn't very heavy.

And being mentally prepared to defend myself, I guess would be one of those things you wouldn't know till it came to be upon myself and had to take action.

BAMF ive seen in the army so far would of had to been my drill sergeant, If you could name anything as in air assault, ranger, sapper, etc he was it or been it.

Hmm to get in shape for basic i recommend a low number of push ups, sit ups, and a slow 2 mile run maybe not even 2 miles. Do them in the correct form/pace! That would be to begin with, then gradually work your way up. If you can start high go for it but you need to be able to do 42 push ups if you're in the age category that I am in (18-21), 53 sit ups and a 2 mile run in 15:52 or :56 one of those two.

Food is actually not that bad, it's a lot better then I would make for myself back home for sure. But nothing beats the food at basic training, for some reason its the best food but you never have the time to enjoy it.

Sex, only if you don't get caught .

This is what I do in my free time, I stay updated with SC/SC2, talk with friends and family back home, watch a movie here and there, and play against the computer here and there on insane to keep my skills somewhat alive.

If someone has joined the National Guard its a good reason that they joined for money for college or they want to serve but not fully commit. I'm both. I didn't want to fully commit because then SC would of been gone out of my life for a long time. Along with family/friends as well as my current GF.

Some people want to join because they have no other career choice to go to, they didn't plan their futures out enough. You sleep all they way through high school and you get out and you have no plans. For others they planned to do it for the experience, to get away from home, from life, or to say you've done something.

Hmm most my fellow buddies are college graduates, or just out of high school, Being from NH, i think we have only 1-2 African Americans, and the rest are white. I have no asians .
As for their income level I couldn't really tell you because most of us are really old where i don't bother to ask or really young with no income level really.

Probably a good idea, military likes to teach things at a 3rd grade level (thanks to the infantry) so you'll probably learn stuff you already know.

Sergeant Major has the most influence, a 2nd LT just kind gives his opinion on the matter at hand. The LT can try to influence it more his way though if he's a stubborn ass.

Do soldiers smoke cigs as much in real life like they do in the movies?
Does being in the army make you better at Call Of Duty games? Because your probably more familiar with tactics and you were probably taught how to communicate very effectively while in combat.

Omg yes they do, I for one though don't smoke. But holy hell some of them smoke one every hour or less.

Umm their communication skills are probably on par with good players but I think they would put to much thought into it and hurt them selves and fail. I for one noticed i found where i expect people would be just by running around the map some. There just some senses you can only have by experience in the game.

For where I am, I fully support the operation we are doing. We're pulling out finally . At first when i joined I had my doubts, even prior to deployment I was still thinking, but I just kind of realized it will be a thing in the past and a year is not that long its already almost half over. Now it's coming down to the fact if i want to re-enlist into the army, I'm still debating with myself over it, I guess it depends on my options, I know I don't have to deploy again for another 5 years after this, but i'm not sure if i want to do another deployment or not, Would really depend where I have to go, and what the mission was.

At the moment I'm finally back in Camp Buehring, Kuwait where i'm stationed but I do frequently go up and back from Kuwait, and Iraq.
