Warning: this is a rant.

I hate Windows 7. Seriously.

If you read my post on Technical Support you'd know that I was considering changing my Windows XP to Windows 7 due to iTunes issues. Well, today is boxing day so I decided today is the time.

The irony is that my frustration with Windows 7 began before it even finished installing. It turned out (at least according to my googling) that Windows 7 installation will get stuck at "Completing installation...". Some of the remedies include some highly non-standard procedures such as removing all USB devices and all but 2gb of RAM (there was no way I could have anticipated it).

As I am writing this I am staring at the still image on my monitor screen (it's one hour), regretting all the time and effort I spent on this stupid piece of crap. I have a feeling that I won't get along with it in the future, either.

Sigh~~~ Good job Microsoft.

I'm not quite sure if your problem got fixed or not (it's unclear from the blog), but I had this exact same problem on a computer a week ago, and went through the same sources trying to find an answer.

Removing the USB devices did not work for me.
Removing ALL unnecessary hardware (including the graphics card, relying on the onboard) did work however.

I remember noticing that the fix was successful very soon after it reached the place where it normally got stuck, but I can't remember how. Still, don't wait 30 minutes between attempts. If it's not doing something after 10 minutes, your attempt didn't work.

Also, I've been using Windows 7 on my main computer since it came out, and it's an amazing improvement on XP. The upgrade is similar to the 98 -> XP upgrade for me. Unlike the 98 -> XP upgrade though, the Win7 upgrade focuses on tons of small improvements rather than one or two major ones (like drivers for XP). I don't think I can live without Win7 anymore

Anyway, hope that helps.

I love Windows 7. It sucks that you've gone through so much trouble with W7, but you're probably a very unique case...

If this werent be a blog i would've hoped you get banned for this.
Such a ignorant wrong post.....
Just because YOU have problems with it, which may be related to some hardware errors or anything else on YOUR side it doesnt mean its microsofts fault.

Millions of people have been installing and working with windows 7 perfectly fine.
I just installed it myself 1 week ago. NO problems at all. 4gb ram. several usb devices plugged in (charging cable for mobile phone, usb hub, usb stick, webcam).

Please please please dont act like this happens with every windows 7 out there and microsoft is 100% guilty for it. Because the main problem is you.
This feeling is increased because you also have "issues" with itunes on XP.....
But thats also microsofts fault i guess, right?

sorry about the harsh "counter-rant" but i just hate people who blindly bash on others because they cant get their stuff working, which is 90% their own fault.

This just adds to my post.
I guess those 30 installs where also on different computers with different hardware settings and surroundings(usb devices,....)?

Yea I have read all of these already. The problem is whether or not I should stop my installation (hard reboot) and do all of the things you said... or just wait. I am fine leaving it overnight.

I am pretty sure I am not the only one having this problem. Some quick googling will make you realize that a lot of people suffer from it.

I don't see how the problem has to do with me. I have very little control over the installation process. I put in the DVD, choose the drive (pre-formated), click OK, and the installation runs. I seriously don't see how it can be my fault. As for the iTunes, I used to use 64 bits Windows XP and Apple only supports 32 bits Windows XP. No, that's not Microsoft's fault - that's Apple's fault. I even tried to tweak the iTunes installer to bypass their version check and that didn't work for me either.

Well, at least you don't have a mac. You probably would've had to buy another overpriced computer just to upgrade the OS (and a shitty one at that). Be glad that Windows gives you the option of upgrading your computers.

My parents have a mac, and I always get frustrated with the restrictiveness of the operating system. A lot of times, problems aren't even fixable because of how ridiculously restrictive apple is and this leads to dead ends where you're stuck with a brick of a computer. Windows, on the other hand, allows you to do pretty much anything and thus you can usually fix your issue even if it takes more computer know-how and time.

I'm pretty sure that's why I use Linux now. Hahaha~~~

But yea, I need to stop being angry and tackle on the problem.

There's no need to be so aggressive. Windows 7 definitely has some short comings. The biggest one should be known to most people here, is that Windows 7 is not compatible with old games, ie. BW. This is a huge blunder by Microsoft, because their main policy and the reason why they are so big, is backwards compatibility.

OK.

I think it might be my gforce graphic card. My mobo does not have integrated graphic so there isn't much I can do there.

I guess what I will do is that I will try to either 1) plug my harddrive into my laptop (which uses ATI; hopefully that's OK) and install it there or 2) switch my harddrive with someone else's desktop.
