Warning: May contain spoilers of recent games.

I have only been uploading VODs to YouTube for about 7 weeks so far (since the 20th of October) but in that time I noticed some distinct trends which I thought were quite interesting.

On days that Flash, Jaedong, Bisu or Stork play I get a lot more views and subscribers than other days. I especially noticed today as Flash, Bisu and Stork all played.

Here's an idea of some numbers:
OZ vs Woongjin on the 1st December
Killer vs Center Views: 154
Jaedong vs SoulKey Views: 460
Princess vs Crazy-Hydra Views: 109
Anytime vs Really Views: 166
Sky vs ZerO Views: 124
Hiya vs Free Views: 175
Jaedong vs PianO Views: 625

I assume Jaedong PianO got more views than Jaedong SoulKey due to it being the last game of the series (can't imagine PianO has more fans than SoulKey).

KT vs MBCGame on the 7th of December (yesterday):
Stats vs Sea Views: 185
Tempest vs HyuN Views: 175
Action vs Tiny Views: 142
Flash vs Light Views: 424
Violet vs Jaehoon Views: 269

These have been up about 30 hours and Flash's game has almost two and a half times the views of the rest despite the fact that it was almost an hour long (I assume Violet Jaehoon has extra views as it was the last game of the series).

Today's SKT1 vs Stars game (these have been up only 9 hours):
Hyuk vs Crazy-Hydra Views: 57
Bisu vs ZerO Views: 270
s2 vs free Views: 75
n.Die_soO vs Neo.G_Soulkey Views: 48
Kwanro vs Really Views: 75
Fantasy vs Flying Views: 141
Fantasy vs Zero Views: 228

I think the extra views in the last game are because it was an ace match and to due to an influx of Fantasy or Zero fans.

Yesterday with only Flash (of the more popular players playing) I got 6 subscribers. Today I have so far got 30 subscribers. I suppose there's nothing too suprising in these figures, everyone knows that these are the most popular players but I am often amused to see on a day how many people will just watch a Bisu or Jaedong game and not care about the rest. The last match in a series does tend to get extra views too.

Someone did a poll a few weeks ago asking something like "Do you follow teams or players?" Well there's your answer.

Who can resist the charm of the revolutionist? Kim Taek Yong fighting!

Not a surprising result but it's kinda cool to see the numbers follow suit.

Keep in mind that the people who support teams are often staying up late to watch them live!

If i can't watch it live, i go for match-ups not for teams or players (well a lil bit for players). PvZ and TvZ the most, some PvT when i like the player(s).
Inputting special characters into chat should no longer cause the game to crash.

Hey Moktira,

I really enjoy the VODs on your channel, esp. the ones with Chinese commentating (youku is too slow most of the time for me). Keep up the good work!

Oh I know your youtube channel I subbed just a while ago. But yah for Vods i usally just watch certain players play because of length of videos and how watching all the games takes a while.

Not only that, he has 17,000 subscribers. Reaching 1.3k hits wouldn't take too long.

I assume Jaedong PianO got more views than Jaedong SoulKey due to it being the last game of the series (can't imagine PianO has more fans than SoulKey).

No, the reason is because watching ZvZ is unpopular. Watching Jaedong decimate a Terran or Protoss is more fun than ZvZ, because the other matchups offer more variety.

Even looking at the last VODs on nevake, it's more pronounced but a similar factor:

OZ vs Woongjin on the 1st December
Killer vs Center Views: 2722
Jaedong vs SoulKey Views: 4244
Princess vs Crazy-Hydra Views: 1516
Anytime vs Really Views: 1977
Sky vs ZerO Views: 1893
Hiya vs Free Views: 2773
Jaedong vs PianO Views: 7652

Jaedong gets over twice as many views as some matches and the last match of a series gets more views again.

I actually got a better source recently so don't post with Chinese commentary any more.

It's too bad, I love Chinese commentary It's not as exciting but it's pretty damn funny.

You know you're spoiled when you check youtube at 9am after the 2:30am match and you're disappointed no VODs are up yet. Thanks

Something very disturbing about this is that jon747 pretty much always got more than 10 000 views per video, and the average viewcount was even higher than that. Now that he is gone, why hasn't nevaKe's views increased? It can only mean that all those people don't watch BW VODs anymore. Hopefully they're koreans who just watch it on TV instead...

vOdToasT, I can't say for sure, but I'd speculate that jon747's incredible speed is what got him so many viewers. The issue with Nevake right now (while I definitely appreciate his hard work) is that he's uploading in a huge batch once every week or so, which is not palatable for a normal viewer. People don't wanna feel like they're playing catch up all week, so they're either not watching the VODs at all, or catching the restreamers. There's also a number of other issues (name scheme of vods, editing, etc) which are just not as good on Nevake. I'm sure also that during the period of a month or so where neither account was uploading, many people just got thrown out of their SC watching routine in general.

Just to add the most recent OSL games:

OSL Ro16 Day 1 December 8 2010:
Flash vs Kal Views: 3455
Calm vs HoGiL Views: 517
Stork vs Mind Views: 628
Fantasy vs Modesty Views: 673

I'm not sure if this is due to Flash's popularity or the fact that it's a highly recommended game (both most likely) but that's a huge increase in views compared to the other games.

even tho i watch a lot of matches live i still skim almost every vid that you put up.

i mean seriously who wants to watch tiny's game? you won't learn a new build or be entertained.

thanks for your efforts tho. it's keeping us bw fans afloat.

well, the interest sort of declines lately, but its not only sc2 to blame, I think all the FvJ kind of killed the suspense - less interested ppl tend to overlook the scene if they know there is a solid status quo, like having one or two guy thats constantly winning.

There are no new story lines in BW lately, sadly the match fixing scandal was the last thing that brought the BW fans together.

Even so, I do believe if JvF deadlock gets broken, the interest will revive. Personally, the most fun I had reading LR thread and watching a match was the Stork vs fantasy final of the OSL. I remember clearly how stork raped in the first two games, fanta came back, so FakeSteve started highfiving all the skt/ fanta fanboys, there was even a pretty rare post in the thread by Tasteless "man , I'm worried about Stork". lol. it was indeed so dramatic and so much fun, really ah I miss that
