First off, I live in Seattle, Washington. Snow here is not INSANELY uncommon, but definitely not the norm. I grew up in a small town in Montana where we got tons of snow every year so I really grew a loving to it. I gotta say, there is something really comforting and amazing about the snow. Definitely better than the normal drizzle rain we get around here.
So my poll question of the day is, what form of weather do you prefer most during your winter?

I live in Florida. So it's always hot and humid here. Every time I have gone to see snow, I never wanted to leave. So that should answer your question. I love the snow
I just moved to Louisiana from Michigan. I'm from Chicago, so I've lived with snow and cold my entire life. Now it's three days before Thanksgiving and the high today is 80.
Like most Midwesterners I hate winter. It's cold, wet, people drive like maniacs, and the sun gets covered a lot by low-hanging clouds. I thought by moving here that I would enjoy at least a brief respite while I get my PhD.
What I didn't expect was missing fall. A lot! The temperature was consistently 90 until about mid-October and the night time temperature hardly goes below 50. The first thing I missed was the "autumnal bite", the bitterly cold morning temperatures about mid-September. All the trees are still green, so I completely missed out on the vibrant color change, the sights of leaves falling everywhere, and the smell they leave behind! Last weekend I saw my breath outside for the first time all season and found that I missed that too. The more I think about winter, the more a winter without snow seems wrong...
Yeah, I'm across the Puget Sound from you. Definitely enjoying the snow. My driveway (about 1/8th mile of 20% grade) was far too treacherous to attempt this morning, so I have myself a little day off! Tomorrow's looking good too.
I like when it's like -15C, so the snow isn't wet, and it isn't too cold. Just the perfect weather to bundle up so you aren't sweating like crazy or freezing cold, and you shoes don't get soaked because everything is frozen.
I'm not a fan of snow or rain, I just like the cold :D

uhh..-15C isn't too cold...? u from north pole? fuk i live in Nebraska and I despise the weather here...I wish i lived where it's sunny everyday
Congratulations on the snow! I hope it stays for a while.
I'm born and have lived my whole life - 25 years - in northern Sweden. So as you can imagine i'm quite accustomed to large amounts of snow and cold. I can't imagine living many years in a place without real winters (that includes southern Sweden aswell). What I love most about the place I live at is how distinctly different the four seasons are. During the winter we get over 100cm snow every winter, during the spring you can some days go skiing without a shirt. The summers are pretty hot but not too hot and we have midnight sun (light 24/7 during summer).
I agree with emperorchampion. I hate wet snow more than rain but below -10'C snow is my favourite weather product ! Snowy weather, 1-2m/s wind, no cars or buildings in nearby area and you are in paradise!
fuck winter i hate it ! i can see my self in 2050 how crazy old grandpa who hates winter and have no family cause he killed everyone on christamas eve : / Dont take me wrong i love Christmas, but i hate winter in Slovakia, It used to be so cool when i was a kid but now ? last 3 years its just mug everywhere no real snow (in Bratislava i mean, other parts of Slovakia are full of it) and thats killing me, you cant go nearly anywhere. But i always smile for an entire snowy days : )))))
Well if it's gonna be cold as fuck it better snow imo, clear and cold weather is the worst. Even worse if it's also windy! but wind often comes with snow so :D
I live in Redmond WA, but grew up in Upstate New York. I had missed the snow and am glad it came to visit the Pacific Northwest. I love that my college canceled all classes for just a couple inches -- back home it would snow a foot overnight and the schools wouldn't budge.

I know what you mean.. I just moved to Florida this year after spending my whole life up to this point living in Connecticut and Vermont. I didn't think I would miss it, but I really missed the fall for the same reasons.
Lol, i lived in Spokane, and i remember laughing with my family/friends at people in Seattle for being such pussies when they cried about having 5-6 inches of snow 2 years ago.
We had 3 ft of snow on the ground for like 3 weeks straight that year.
Yeah having snow is nice up here (I'm living up in Bellevue these days). When I was in college I used to live in a place that has a lot of snow though, wasn't always as fun.
I just got home after driving around in Seattle. It started snowing again and the roads slicked up. My truck has shitty traction with the real wheels, so I engaged 4 wheel drive, lololol.
Most people seemed to have functioning brains and drove more or less normally.
Some drivers are fucking idiots here and leave their lights off while it's snowing, don't sweep the snow off their cars, and do random bizarre and foolish maneuvers for no reason.
Dude, I love snow. Are you serious. The cold is INSANELY refreshing. It makes me so happy. By the way, I live in Vancouver! 0.0 I used to live in Ottawa where, bunnies have to huddle together to keep warm in their little underground dens, and people have to wear like 3 shirts and a winter jacket to keep warm. It's not as cold here so I can just run around here without a jacket, in a t-shirt.

I LOVE HOW COLD IT IS IN VANCOUVER RIGHT NOW. I love the dry, coldness.

;_;
and did I say next week? I meant this week lol -_-
Ooo, I gotcha now, thought you would be flying, best of luck, hope you can make it! Driving in the canadian winter isn't as bad as one may think, take your time and be careful.

I got an apartment over by Crossroads, off of 156th..
Dude, I totally know where you are at...I used to live right off 156th in a house behind Xroads. That is awesome dude. I feel a Seattle area LAN coming soon : )

Never had a snow day in my life. Our city is too well prepared and too used to it. We get like 4 feet overnight and are expected in school at 8:30.
Must not get cold enough, at -40C school buses don't run because the propane liquefies lol
We have -40C days. Buses aren't stored outside overnight and I doubt they run on propane. That shouldn't matter. Our buses run all winter.
Hmm, I think most buses run on propane, I could be wrong though.
New Flyer, which makes all of our public transit buses, offers "drive systems fueled by diesel-electric and gasoline-electric hybrid power, compressed or liquid natural gas, electrical power (trolley), diesel, and ULSD." I think that the majority of ours, beside Xcelsior, run on diesel. I assume it's the same with school buses.
Regardless, based on experience, ours run all winter. Now back on topic.
My girlfriend is currently visiting her mother in Bremerton and she texted me a bunch of pictures.
I lost my phone USB cable though so I can't upload them at the moment. D: Hopefully Virginia doesn't get another epic bazillion inches of snow storm again.
i live in vancouver which is slightly north of seattle
started snowing here, i hate it. nothing worse then being outside and freezing, maybe i just don't wear enough clothing. i hate wearing more like 2 layers of clothing so that's probably why.
i can't stand weather that's worse then -5 degrees celcius, i'd probably move out of the city asap if the weather is worse then that. yay for vancouver, decent temperatures all year around.
summer is awesome, 15-30 degrees is the best temperature for me. i love warm but not overly hot or cold. i'd prefer extreme coldness to hotness, but i'd prefer mild warm to mild cold

Yes, this dry (read: not rain) coldness of winter is indeed refreshing. I'm tired of having 30+ days of rain straight.
I'm glad someone feels how I do about it.
You know in the winter when it's this cold, and it's not really raining, but kinda like.. Misting out? Not fog, but actual like, mist falling?
That is the only kind of rain/snow-like thing I like.
That stuff, is so cool, I like that! Canada was the weirdest weather though. At least it's not freaking raining anymore. You know those days, where it's just dark and it's raining like nuts? I hate those days, because they last forever. No sun for a long time. Also, it could be a really sunny day, and in like ten minutes the clouds sweep in and it starts raining, and your like "crap!".\
EDIT: Forgot school buses, very rarely there are snow days, only when the roads are actually really snowed in, and the school buses are cancelled, which they actually have a website for. They state which buses are cancelled or not. School is still open though, but most children don't attend because the buses are not in service.
Fuck snow. If there's one thing I hate, it's having to shovel the goddamn stuff. Public transit around here is also guaranteed to be at least a half hour late at the slightest hint of snow.
Normally I wouldn't mind rain, but in the winter? Screw that. Driving around on sheets of ice is not my idea of fun.
It's snowing here in Hamburg, Germany too, but it's that emo/suicidal/kamikaze-snow. It falls, and the instant it hits the ground it's just gone... who needs that?!
On November 24 2010 04:48 OreoBoi wrote: God, when it takes an hours of standing in minus 40 celsius weather waiting for the transit to come, you start to hate snow.
Yup. Also driving in general sucks since traffic moves significantly slower. I try to minimize going out as much as possible during winters. Unpleasant, sometimes dangerous and a waste of time overall. Bears had the right idea lol.

That said, snow is pretty.
Wow, I have the same opinion as you, right down to bears. However, it's still nice to go out in the winter. You just have to do it at different times of day to be as efficient as possible. For example: I work out early in the morning, play hockey in the evenings, and go out at night when they traffic isn't bad. Still cold though. >_<
So the highways and arterials are almost completely clear and dry by now. Residential streets are still iced. My 4x4 truck is able to climb icy hills, but the back end slides around a little bit because it's empty right now. Idiot drivers here seem to love tailgating a fishtailing truck. Some drivers also seem to enjoy leaving shitloads of snow on their windshields, roof, and hood so that it blocks their view and occasionally flies off to block other drivers' views.
For your lolling pleasure, check out how Seattle gets owned by 1" of snow.
