Personally I found the Black-White lineup more memorable, though I thought the elemental monkeys there looked straight-up dumb. EDIT: Chimchar does become Infernape, not Typhlosion, which is indeed from GSC. He can't learn Ice Punch, but he can learn Hidden Power Ice... though he probably won't unless you hack him. However, for diamond, consider the Water-starter as well, since it has a steel secondary type, which is nice. Also, unless you have link cable, make sure you load long enough to get a FEMALE starter (1/8 chance). If I recall correctly, Ditto is really hard to catch to diamond; so if you want a good starter whose EVs are not all messed up, you need a female. | ||

I believe Chimchar's evolved forms have the same stats for attack and special attack, therefore there is almost no need to use Flamewheel when Flamethrower is available to you eventually. | ||

Fire monkey has great offense//penguin gets steel-typing later on for awesome defense; turtle is kind of weak but it's because Grass is so underpowered =/ Also did you pick boy or girl character? :3 | ||

Infernape is by far the best amongst torterra and empoleon, really good sweeper. Teach that thing close combat + overheat + a couple standard moves (don't think infernapes usually run stat boosting moves..can't remember). | ||
