Many people have been asking about my streams quality (RageQuit.TV); here are my settings for FMLE 3.1
Device: VHScrCap. Format: H.264 --Profile: Main + Show Spoiler +Baseline is the default and is designed for low quality videos such as video conference or mobile applications, Main is for Standard Digital; FMLE Does not support High which is designed for High def. --Level: 4.1 + Show Spoiler + Optimization for your resolution; 4.1 is for 720p, 5.x is for 1080p but even my overclocked i7 will have a hard time encoding that and I don't think ustreams server will be able to support it either --Keyframe Freq: 10 + Show Spoiler +Basically each frame isn't the entire picture, just what has changed. A keyframe is how often the entire picture is sent, so when you experience blur moving the camera quickly that is because too much is changing. Keyframes will fix that. Frame Rate: 20fps + Show Spoiler +TV uses a framerate of 30, movies are like 24.97 or something, 20 is normally not recommended with video because small quick moving things won't be displayed well (EX. Glass shattering). Starcraft doesn't have any of these things which makes 20fps looks almost identical to the human eye. VODs I keep it at 30 just because I can, but for streams I find 20 FPS works just fine. Input Size: 1920x1080 + Show Spoiler + My native resolution, 1080p Bitrate: 1200 + Show Spoiler +This is how much data is sent per second, since we are dropping the frame rates a bit your bitrate can drop aswell. This lets ustream dish out your video easier and requires less bandwidth for you Output Size: 1280x720 (720p) + Show Spoiler +The resolution that FMLE sends to the streaming provider, I find anything over 720p will cause issues.
FMLE Picture: + Show Spoiler +
VHScreenCap Picture: + Show Spoiler +
My Setup + Show Spoiler + - Micrphone: Blue Snowball, it is the one Day9 uses aswell and is amazing! - Webcam: Microsoft Lifecam Cinema HD - Processor: Intel i7 2.67 ghz; Quad core. (Overclocked to ~3.4ghz) - Videocard: Nvidia GTX 260 - Ram: 9gb DDR3 - Hard Drives: 2, 7200rpm. To use Fraps, you need a dedicated 7200rpm+ HD; There are too many writes going on for you to use the same HD as your OS+SC. Its roughly 3.9gb every 90 seconds.
Hopefully, that helps some of you. I will probably edit this post later when I have more time and put what each setting does and why I changed it to that.
If you are wondering why our VODs are even higher quality, I am using FRAPs aswell to record 1080p, not FMLE. To stream 720p and record 1080p; I believe you will need to overclock the i7. Be careful if you don't know what you are doing, my system goes to 85-95% and peaks at 72*c
Edit #1: Added descriptions of my understanding of the changes, I am not an expert in video encoding so don't take my word for any explanations. I tried my best to make it easy to understand.
Edit #2: Added pictures
Edit #3: Added my hardware

Do you use Vhscrcap? What are your settings for that?

What Internet connection do you use?

I do use VHScreenCap, 20 fps, align video, show mouse, and show clicks is checked. The key thing is to uncheck "Optimize Screen Capture"

The main thing is making sure your FMLE does not "Drop" anything, this is shown on the right side of FMLE after you click start.

Loooong shot and a bit offtopic here but maybe someone can help me here as in the ustream forums nobody replied to my question.
I'm using FME 2.5 as FMLE 3.1 doesn't keep the FPS stable and at a fast rate as the FME 2.5, but I have two problems with this version that don't happen when I use FMLE 3.1
First, I can't use the command line program to broadcast, it connects and seems to be sending the stream to the server but when I go to the ustream web and hit the broadcast button the ustream broadcast panel doesn't detect the FME stream and tries to use the local camera, if I use the windows gui FME I don't have this problem and I can broadcast.
Second problem, when I use the windows gui FME I'm not able to record my shows, the server monitor doesn't show anything on the ustream broadcast panel and if I try to record the stream I only get the audio.
Is there any way to solve this? I believe these two problems might be related but I don't know how to solve this issue, also this doesn't happen if I use FMLE 3.1 but that version of the encoder doesn't keep the frame rate stable.
I can't understand why FMLE 3.1 has one third of the frame rate that FME 2.5 can output with the same settings, doesn't make any sense to me but then, it's adobe.

Two things; 1.) In the task manager, just increase the priority of FMLE 3.1; I believe that should get it to 2.5 standards. Also be sure you are on the H.264 codec; not VP6 2.) What Processor do you have? Generally if you see dropped frames your PC is not fast enough to handle SC + HQ Stream.
Hopefully that fixes it as I never touched 2.5 so don't know advantages/disadvantages between the two.

How do u fix the colour bug in starcraft BW upon streaming? i understand u must stop and start the stream, but then i have to alt tab out, but i see players do it without alt tabbing.
And do you use 32 bit colour in original source?

have to do it with a hotkey

How do you specify the hotkey? And is it the adobe, the VH screen capture you stop or the ustream u stop?

VH, but people usually do it with Camtasia, dunno if it works with VH.
