So I'm in Korea and I'm watching OGN right now... the games just ended, trophies given, etc etc... and now they're running this montage... but here's the thing. Whereas other OSL's usually have a montage for the past season, this epic compilation is showing footage, qualifiers, and winners for EVERY OSL EVER. It started about 5 minutes ago and it looks like it's gonna go for at least another ten minutes.
It's amazing. Really, I didn't get into watching starcraft till 2007 so I missed out on the first 4 bonjwas pretty much... so this is not only a history lesson but gives me an appreciation just how much emotion is imbued in 30 seasons of OSL. From the players to the fans and the commentators, from awkward space suits to The Rock's ceremonies to a fan placing a flower on some player's desk to Anytime's tears... and all the while with OGN's trademark high production quality.
Amazing. Pro starcraft is amazing... has been amazing? I don't know... the "last" word is thrown around a lot these days, not just from uneducated fools but even in the commercials, commentators and etc. After today, it really feels like Starcraft has been figured out; and honestly, I never expected sc2 to be so ready to be a capable replacement. Seeing the rise of the GSL, watching today's finals, watching this montage... maybe today marks the end of an era.
rough translation: more than us approaching them, the fans came to us. I've become an esports fan... and I love them. I love the fan of esports (she cries)
Well it is the OSL's 10th Anniversary. It might just be that they're looking back on the last 10 years of history. Some might interpret it as a final look back, but I don't see it that way.

This. Exactly this. 10th anniversary is a huge thing, especially considering it was the first starleague ever outside of Korea.
Yep, I missed this, though I heard someone mention there was an epic ending in IRC. Hopefully someone can upload it somewhere, 'cause that's something I'd love to see.

I believe Starcraft has an infinity of great games in it. Right now we are just in an era, only a matter of time before it ends and a new one begins. Maybe SC2 will trigger this somehow by bringing people's attention to the OSL or something, kind of like what just happened to you. Most people on here don't know about anything before Savior's reign, and that is sort of sad because the game was much different then. As much as I hate him now, he really changed things forever.
I don't think SC2 has that kind of dynamic in it. It's too transparent. But that is just me, and when the money stops flowing and both the expansions come out I guess we'll see how much staying power it has.
EDIT: Yeah during the games they kept playing montages as well. And every one that Nada was in he was totally badass; especially when he holds his golden mouse in front of the camera. He's just like, "This is mine. I fucking earned it. Remember my name because I am one of the greats."
As a relative newcomer to the BW scene, it was awesome to see scenes and full player lists from all of the old OSLs. Really makes you appreciate the history and drama...
The montage definitely gave me a chilling feeling that this was the last Starleague... very somber and they paid respects to EVERYONE, even the previously unmentionable Savior. It seems the song lyrics were trying to tell us something,
It's quiet It's cold now I'm waiting To fall down
You showed me That I need hope That I need change
And change is coming my way But I still feel the same I still feel the same

It was supposed to be an emotional song, and emotional songs usually have depressing lyrics. Not saying it couldn't be some kind of message though, but it's hard to tell.

Oh thanks, I was wondering what she was saying at the end. It was a fantastic montage, a lot of emotion and the flash back footage was great. Ahhhh I'm so glad I at least got to experience Starcraft and it's leagues in my life. BW4Life
I imagine that this montage has a secondary purpose of influencing the sc fans in korea to voice their desire to keep the scene running. By harkening back the memories over the last 10 years, I believe OGN is trying to make it much more difficult to wage a war of public opinion against them, given the current climate of negotiations between Blizzard/Gretech and Kespa.

sad world when we have to consider this explanation as being plausible :\

shots of Elky+ubiquitous sunglasses Xellos winning Olympus and tearing up July BMing at the beginning of Gillette "lol i'll own them all ezpz" and then delivering triple bunker rush in the semis of EVER, then the apprentice defeating the master with oov>boxer first shots of Stork in 2005
OH GOD 6:33 there's a glimpse of Savior on the left -- he still made it in somehow
Boxer missing his Golden Mouse vs Anytime Nada Golden Mouse!
No Shinhan-3 T___T
Jaedong tearing up like mad after beating Stork July's Golden Mouse lol swimming pool intro preparation for Bacchus OSL Shuttle getting teary-eyed, Yarnc isn't even shown then Flash Flash Flash
I don't know if that's how it was intended but it really felt like a sendoff.

The saddest thing about it is that a major part of the video shows players disappointed as they're knocked out of the tournament. The video showcases the winners, but it's also a tribute to the efforts of all the other players who came up short and whose names won't be remembered.

And no Ma Jaeyoon is pretty harsh
it can't be helped, "tainted" people never make it on tv or any media ever again in korea

That could be the basis of a good revenge movie
They sent me to prison for 18 months
They never used my name, never showed my games, they erased me from history
All of Korea forgot about me
Now I'm out, and these scrubs are playing sc2?
He buys a hat, puts on a fake beard and some glasses and signs up for the GSL under the name Jesus[gm]. He demolishes everybody without breaking a sweat, crushing Terrans on imba maps like in the good old days, and then during the final interview he removes his disguise. "The Maestro is back." Korean esports implodes.
Personally the montages from previous OSLs and MSLs are way more enjoyable than watching the actual games, it's those micro moments that really highlight the pull factor for watching sc in the old days as opposed to the sploppy C/B level macro seen from even the finals.
