So, this year I will begin a Masters in Geographical Information Systems.
There was one course just 15 minutes on the nearby train but I didn't manage to convince them that I was worthy of the course.
So, I must move country. I'm amazed at how inconvenient it it to move from one part of this tiny island to another. I'm going to the northern tip, a county called Derry. Derry is the name that we were taught to call it in school and is always referred to under that name. Apparently I'm not going to Derry, I'm going to LondonDerry. That's probably what I should call it up there because that's what they call it. Things to get used to...
I live in Dublin so that makes it a 4 hours drive. I, a cheap student with no skills, have no car. I'll rely on public transport to get there and back and have to stay up there a lot of the time. I've managed to get a place to stay on campus so this and my food bills etc don't make it possible for me to frequently come home.
I'll be stuck in this small college town for a lot of the time. The thing that bothers me the most about all this is the amount of crap I have to go through. I have to get all this horrible money with a Queen's face on it, a new phone and a new bank account, all this and it's still without getting off this island.
My situation is rather unique, I'm a bit of a rarity in that I'm Irish but also protestant. For the first in my life I'll be living in a community where my religion is of the majority. Through school I was slagged off constantly and beaten etc for being a different religion. Also, people link it with me being from the North or English... Now I'll be in a place where my religion fits but not where I'm from. A lot of my friends have even said that, "Up there they won't know how to deal with you." I also have no idea how things are up there because as most people know it's not always been the safest environment.
So, this Monday I have to go up to register and then from the following week I'll be there hopefully full of a good work attitude.
The bright side I'll be near this:
