Was stopped going going 40 in a 30, actually thought the speed limit was 35 but oh well.
Arrived home and started looking at the ticket more carefully when I got home and discovered not only is my name misspelled, my date of birth is wrong, and I can't find the fine amount anywhere on the ticket, and there is nothing filled, crossed, or circled on the back. Obviously I can go to court on the 28th and then defensive driving school to void it going on my record. Just wish I knew the amount of the fine, I will call tomorrow and see if I can get more information.

You would rarely get pulled over even for going 10 over the limit, I think cops usually pull those if they really want to check on the driver, maybe if he looks young or not very confident.

I think the +10 rule of thumb only really applies on highways/freeways (where you're going at 45+ to begin with). Going 40 on a 30 is pretty... uh...

they're alot more strict for school/playground zones or construction zones especially, which im assuming it was something like that
What is with the USA. Going to court for a speeding fine? Here you get fined and lose points off your licence. I guess you can dispute it here aswell if you really wanted to. You would only be wasting your own time though to do so.

Pretty much you'll never get pulled over if you're going less than 10 (16 km) miles over the speed limit*. I have like 3-4 tickets under my belt, all for going ~15 (24 km) over the speed limit, but the coppers who wrote them marked them down to 1-5 (1.6 - 8 km) (a significantly smaller fine).
* Unless it's a school zone. Then they'll pull you over for going 1 (1.6 km) mile over the speed limit.
you sir received the ticket for not driving fast enough ^^ or you were just driving on the wrong roads there are a few roads around where i live that have really low speed limits (one 15 cuz the road is "dangerous to drive fast on" (hahahahaha hairpin turns hahahahahahaha) no cops can be on that road cuz there is nowhere for them to be ^^ sooooooo 70+ depending on my mood ^^; ) the rule of thumb +10 applies only to highways, other than that on any regular road you should be fine just matching whatever speed the people in front of you are doing and just 5 over (unless residential or school zone) if there is no one in front of you should be enough to avoid tickets and worse...POINTS!!!
Wow, those are some cheap ticket costs in Memphis. They are about 4 times higher in the places I have lived
http://www.cityofmemphis.org/framework.aspx?page=91 "A summons ticket is a ticket issued by an officer to a violator, signed by the violator, and has a court date on the bottom of the ticket. Unless the ticket is marked mandatory, it is payable for the first 15 days after receipt."
Is the ticket marked "mandatory" anywhere requiring a court appearance? That may explain why there is no dollar amount.
"If the ticket is not paid within 15 days after receipt, the violator must appear in court on the scheduled court date on the bottom of the ticket, and additional costs may be assessed."
Definitely give them a call. Court costs will probably double your total fine if you have to go into court.
BTW - Don't count on the ticket getting thrown out because of the incorrect info. The ticket itself is simply a notice / promise to appear, not evidence.
If you show to court and just talk to the prosecutor, probably no need to even go to lame ass driving school. they'll just bump all the shit to a non-points violation.
You can submit a request for a new court date. Cops tend to put a bunch of people on the same day so they can not spend a lot of time in court. If it gets accepted, there's a chance the cop won't show up on the rescheduled day and it'll be thrown out.
Also, you can fight it based on 1) Incorrect name 2) Incorrect birthdate 3) No fine amount
Yea it looks like I might go to court, as one I was stopped by the sheriff not the police, I can't afford my insurance go up and am paranoid enough about the point system despite not having any points taken off in the past.
EDIT: Also the information has yet to be submitted so I can't find the amount of the fee till about 10 days, which means I have 3-4 days to pay said fine!
