I made my gf play vs AI during sc2 beta. The very easy AI that literally made 2 units then stopped.

After like 10minutes she a clicked their base with some stuff and was like "oh I won? that was it?" :/

I agree with what has been said previously: just let her play the game at her own pace, if she has questions she will come to you, or she can look it up on the liquipedia, the SC compendium or something similar. And you can of course motivate her to a certain degree, but an information overload will only make it seem like 'work' and less like what a game is supposed to be, to wit, fun. Build orders and such can wait until she is familiar with the game and enjoys playing it.

On a related note, the SC compendium's descriptions of what all spells and abilities do are very accurate and detailed and thus worth reading for a player interested in learning the game.

yah...you really gotta be careful with this...my gf started to cry when i tried to teach her brood war, i found it hilarious, she was in trauma tho till she learned to shoot down all my science vessels (team melee) lol

LOL she actually took notes? I tried to teach mine but I guess as time went on, I kind of sounded impatient and she didn't want to play anymore. I started with protoss too T_T. Whatever you do, don't get impatient lol.

You should have just let her play some games ^_^
And be like "If you try this for me I'll try something for you that you like" and ect.
Watching some entertaining replays aswell might be a nice thing, like some fun Day9 daily, or so.
At least that's how I got in to SC2 which made my bf very happy. Was probably more excited than him when SC2 was released.
