Today, we were driving home when our back driver's side tire deflated. It didn't blowout or anything. Just deflated. When I went outside to inspect it, it seems liked a normal tire blowout.
But when the mechanic who put on the spare tire was looking at it, he noticed that whatever hit the tire actually went through the rim as well. He said he's never seen anything go through the rim in his 15 years of working. He even speculated that someone shot our tire. XD A mechanic at our dealer said they've never seen this either.
I guess it's all good because no one got hurt. :D
Pics:
![[image loading]](http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb11/kirbyfan91/DSC07630.jpg) This is a shot of the rim.
![[image loading]](http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb11/kirbyfan91/DSC07633.jpg) I guess whatever went through followed this trajectory :/
Anyways, question to any car mechanic reading this, have you ever seen anything go through both the tire and the rim?

Watch your back, someone might be out to get you
But judging from the first tire pic, if it were a bullet wouldn't the hole curve inwards instead of outwards? Unless the air flowing out of the tire pushed the rubber back out :O

It might have been a big nail that deflated the tire and the pressure of your car went on it and got through the rim.

What kind of car do you drive? If its heavy enough I suppose it could be possible you drove over somthing very long and hard like maybe some Rebar sticking up out of the ground. Maybe you should call the cops just to have them check it out. If someone fired a gun I'm sure they like to know.

Looks to be a high caliber bullet for sure, Lock your doors, you may have a hitman on you :S

Look like it was just a car judging by the tire size ~_~ Canadian police are a joke imo. They would rather pull people over then look for someone with a gun

How wide is it? Looks too big to be a rifle round, and a pistol round probably wouldn't be able to penetrate both the tire and the rim.
|
my sources confirmed that it is definitely a hitman
|
Definitely looks like a bullet. O_O
Take a gun and shoot the rim again. Compare holes. :>

Not as many people have guns in Canada compared to the southern country lol Too small for a high powered rifle? big for a pistol..that means... AK 47
|
It's just a sedan. The hole is around 0.8 cm in diametre? (0.3 inches)

Aha, I would definitely try this if I had a gun XD

This is just silly ... do canadians go and shoot random ppls car tires with their rifles? I would get something big like a spike and hammer it

Well standard pistol round is 9mm in diameter and AK 47's is 7.62

If you did not feel like you hit the mother of all pot holes. I would suspect it may indeed be a gun shot. Alert the police.

Dude that for shure looks like a bullet hole.
|
except for the part where the guy would have needed to like shoot at your tire while laying on the floor either behind or in front or your car i totally get this lol.
Not sure what that could have been maybe you ran over a pressured can or something.
|
Wow.
If it were some kind of long spike I don't think the hole would be so clean.

if you ran over some sort of nail or something i doubt it would go through so straight like that, even if it was standing up perfectly. i really can't imagine anything else besides a bullet doing this.

Seems that the hole was made from inside the rim, so even if the hole looks like a bullet hole, if someone shot your tyre it would look different, the metallic flakes would be in the other direction.

no it wouldn't. the hole is on the inside of the rim with the flakes also pointing towards the inside, indicating whatever punctured the rim/tire would have came from outside the rim.
|
that's what happens when you mess with ninjas
|
prolly ran over a big nail ( like one used to hammer a tent into the ground ). If it were a bullet and it made that kind of penetration (with that trajectory) there would be another mark roughly in the same spot on the opposite side of the inside of the rim.
You prolly ran it over it punchered the rim/tire and as the air leaked out the tire flattened out shearing the nail out the inside of your tire and leaving a gaping wound! O_O
still sounds like a freak incident!
|
That is true. If it was bullet, I don't see it penetrating the rim only to not make any mark at all on the opposing rim that faces it.
|
Maybe the mechanic jammed a small steel rod through there just to confuse the **** out of you. Mechanic = epic troll.
|
wouldn't a high caliber weapon with enough force itself through the rim blow out the tire on impact?
credentials: none but im american so i'm an expert obv

That's what I meant. But the flakes pointing towards the inside are like perpendicular to the rim, so that would mean the shooter was very very low, probably had to lie on the ground, and perfectly in front of the car, or perfectly behind the car, which makes it strange.

Problem "solved": Turns out it was a pair of wire-cutters. They found it still in the tire.
|
Huh, kind of surprised mechanic didn't find it while checking the tire but I never owned a car and have no repairing experience so...
+ Show Spoiler +It could be cover-up attempt by assassin to lessen your suspicion on failed murder attempt though.

How is that even possible to miss? Doesn't look like a gunshot anyway.

The mechanic who replaced our tire with the spare one (Not at the dealership) helped us on the side of the road on his way home. So he didn't have time to look inside the tire.
I don't think we could have driven over that >_> I guess someone stuck it in our tire at a parking lot <_<
