Couple days ago, I found a little red spot on the side of my body and perceived it to be just a tiny little rash. Not a really big spot, but just a tiny little speck about the size of a dime.

Two days later, the entire right side of my body is filled with like a band of this red rash shit and after seeing the doc earlier today, I've learned that I've apparently got Shingles, which is like Adult Chicken Pox, but worse.

Apparently, it's supposed to hurt like hell, but I haven't noticed any of that yet, just a lot of itching and irritation. I'm feeling tired every single day, no matter how long I sleep for. Just wondering if anyone here has had Shingles before and what their experiences were, cause I heard it's supposed to really suck.

I had a friend who caught it just last month. After the initial itching for a few days, she always complained about the pain she felt when she sat down since it was on the back of her right thigh.

I can't say anything that'll help but you're gonna have to deal with this for a while Good luck!

http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/shingles/shingles-topic-overview

What causes shingles?

Shingles occurs when the virus that causes chickenpox starts up again in your body. After you get better from chickenpox, the virus "sleeps" (is dormant) in your nerve roots. In some people, it stays dormant forever. In others, the virus "wakes up" when disease, stress, or aging weakens the immune system. It is not clear why this happens. But after the virus becomes active again, it can only cause shingles, not chickenpox.

You can't catch shingles from someone else who has shingles. But a person with a shingles rash can spread chickenpox to another person who hasn't had chickenpox and who hasn't gotten the chickenpox vaccine.

How is shingles treated?

There is no cure for shingles, but treatment may help you get well sooner and prevent other problems. Call your doctor as soon as you think you may have shingles. The sooner you start treatment, the better it works. Treatment may include:

* Antiviral medicines to help you get well sooner and feel less pain.
* Medicines to help long-term pain. These include antidepressants, pain medicines, and skin creams.

Good home care can help you feel better faster. Take care of any skin sores, and keep them clean. Take your medicines as directed. And use over-the-counter pain medicines to relieve pain.

Looks like it's long term bro, so better read up

I had these like a year and a half ago. The doctor I saw said i should be in like massive pain and require meds. It honestly just felt like my entire right side was bruised. Mine followed the nerve cluster of one of my ribs and covered like, the lower half of my stomach (right side) and follow along my back. It lasted about 3ish weeks before it just started to essentially peel and fall off and i was still a little sore for a few days after the last bit had vanished.

Be ready for a few weeks of soreness, but aside from that it should be easily manageable. I was still able to work, go out and drink, etc... with shingles and its not contagious in the stage your in, so just try to keep going as per normal.

I had shingles in the 6th grade. Be glad that you got it while you're young. The older you get, the more painful it is in general. My dad had shingles when he was like 30 around his hip and he said it was terrible. I actually still have a scar from one of the bigger rashes (it was like a fucking bubble 1.5 inches wide. I swear to god it was so nasty. my sister fucking popped it while i was sleeping and i've had the scar ever since. fucking asshole D: ) I think as long as you don't pop the blisters, you won't get any long-term scars. Just try not to scratch it.

I think you'll be fine, but get treatment from your doctor. I don't actually remember what my doctor gave me, but it did help. I was back in school in like a week or two. I don't recall being in a lot of pain, all I remember is being itchy all the time and my mom telling me not to scratch it. try not to put pressure on your rash, obviously.

edit: i had it along my ribcage which went around my body.

Yeah thanks. Mine's also along my ribcage and it wraps around my body. I feel alright. I just wanted to see if others had it as well and what to expect from it, whether or not I should expect a ton of pain, or if there were other complications and side-effects.

The same thing happened to a friend of mine.
All he had to do was miss school for about a week and then just put some cream on the rashes for another week or 2. He was fine after.
But get well soon.

Well, from what I've read, and what other people in this thread have said, you should experience pain, but I guess I was lucky? haha

My dad had shingles maybe 8 years ago and said it really blew. Like the others here, he wasn't in a ton of pain but compared it to a bad flu where he felt sore all the time everywhere.

I've read up that stress can cause it to start up, as can old age and a weak immune system. However, it just puzzles me cause it's summer, I'm completely not stressed at all. Feeling completely fine, tons of rest, but it started up all of a sudden at a quite random time really. It's weird.

I haven't personally, but have had two relatives, and a friend or two of one of them that have. They've all said it's painful. My one aunt was in so much pain, she didn't want to get out of bed for some time, but forced her self into work. She had some medicated patches that helped relieve the pain, and it'd probably be wise to look into that.

Her friend has had them for what seems like 10 years now. My aunt that was referenced initially, and another aunt have had them, and they went away in what was probably about a 2-3 weeks maybe. Aunt 1 has had them more than once, aunt 2 has only had them once, but not much time has passed since the first occurrence.

What I'm trying to convey is this: they are supposedly pretty painful, three "victims" of them will attest to that in my family/friends. They come back sometimes, and apparently this is pretty normal, because it's a virus, and cannot be killed.

GL with it, hopefully the pain won't be too bad. I'm scared to get them, myself. I'm not sure if they're contagious or not.
I'm never gonna know you now \ But I'm gonna love you anyhow.

I had it 2-3 years ago and I must have gotten lucky, because there really wasn't much pain at all, just a lot of itching. It went away in a week or two, and just remember calamine lotion is your friend.

Hey Roffles, got a question for you.

I've been searching online and what not - and I fear I might have the same deal. Basically my skin on a strip on the inner part of my upper arm felt like it had been sunburned or something, seemingly for no reason but there no mark or redness there.

Now a few days later there is a small rash, with clustered small blisters...is this similar to what you experienced? Weird...

Edit:

Yeah fuck...I think I have it too...this is exact...been feeling like I've had a hangover for days, feeling tired and a bit itchy...FUCK.
