Sound recording help

Hi guys, I know teamliquid isnt the place to go for tech support problems, but I have been at various forums for hours now and cant figure this one out, so I hope you dont mind if I ask here, and maybe somebody can help.

Im trying to record some things using Guitar Rig and asio4all, now from what ive gathered asio4all takes control over your sound card and you cant use two sound applications at the same time, but without it the line in latency is horrible, so I cant play in guitar rig and have a track I recorded earlier playing at the same time so I can get them in sync. Ive had no problems with this while using Xp, but from what ive read windows 7 changed how it handles the audio.

Now im wondering how I could play my earlier tracks at the same time while playing in guitar rig, best ive figured so far is to record the first track, convert it to mp3 and put it on my mp4 player connected to a set of speakers and then play it, but id rather no do that if I could figure out some other way, so if any of you have some tips or ideas, I would be very thankful.

Sorry again for a tech support question, but ive really had my heart set on doing some recording this summer with my free time, and this is killing me.

Sorry i cant help.. i use audacity

but i also have to play backing track from an external source otherwise its picked up on input.
the only time i didnt have to worry about this is when my brother hooked up a mixer board to the comp..

what is guitar rig?

Guitar rig is a program that lets me connect to my computer directly and then get various amps and effects on it, Im pretty much stuck with it because my crappy amp and mic prevent me from doing mic recording.

I also use Audacity but mostly for putting all the various tracks together and editing them.

You can try guitar rig + reaper (www.reaper.fm) which is free for 30 days (but you can find it pirated everywhere).
That's the software i used and it works even if you're using an asio4all program at the same time.

use guitar rig as a VST through a DAW such as ableton. you will not run into any issues with asio, because it'll all be going through one program. you will still have full functionality of guitar rig.

If you want something free, you might be able to run guitar rig through Audacity, last I checked, it supports VST plugins, with a tiny bit of modification that their site guides you through.
