Hi,
what is the best game to recommend to an SC2 newbie that thinks it is better viewing than BW?

The game does not necessarily need to be played well, but it would have to:
+ be professional
+ exciting all the way through
+ have an active start and middlegame with preferably a close ending
+ involve many units/tech shifts
+ many ooh/ahh moments with mines/scarabs/plagues

Basically, the best vod to convince someone outright that BW was a better spectator sport than SC2.

I'm annoyed at this guy at work who seems to think differently without watching any BW epics.

(btw, I don't want pimpest play vods.)

Nal-ra vs savior on peaks comes to mind, but I wanted a game with more... dazzle. That was a bit more like siege warfare. I want a game that explodes in their faces, even if there are many mistakes. And good english commentary is a plus.

Imagine the rocky fights in BW form. with more units.

You don't have to force him to prefer BW...
I hate the post below mine because it feels War3-ish.

Try this one. Lots of back and forth/exciting moments. Doesn't include many tech switches though.

You can't really prove anything about either game with a single VOD...
I mean, there might be one really good game but the average game is boring, right? You'd have to introduce him to the progaming leagues, really. For someone who views a game of Starcraft the first time it's honestly not all that impressive, you have to have a grasp of what's going on imo. Also what Shade###### said.

English commentary? That cuts down the list by a decent amount |:
Either way, shouldn't be too hard, considering BW is better to watch then SC2. Unless he's one of those people that complain about how annoying the graphics/resolution is non-stop.

english commenatry is only a plus for explanation appeal. in some ways, korean commentary is better for the novelty and enthusiasm

I guess Iris vs savior on arkanoid was quite good for this purpose.

Ok maybe 5 different types of units isn´t that much :/
but that whole set is so awesome it can never be recreated in any game...

Lol this reminds me of when Ryan Rushia was watching the finals last weekend and me and Rael were explaining everything. "What's that orange cloud thing?"

Idk about BW being a better spectator sport than SC2 tho. I have watched 1000's of BW games and 1000's of SC2 games and I think Sc2 is a SLIGHTLY better spectator sport.

It's preference. People who aren't that familiar with BW aren't going to suddenly enjoy it. Feel free to show videos to him, but I doubt it will make a difference. Just be happy he enjoys part of the Starcraft series, even if its not the part you may enjoy.

Hey guys, I'm not looking to be 'cured' of my love for BW; this is a blog about finding the best VOD, not tackling my inner demons. Consider this like an alternate reality where BW superiority is a fact. It's not some philosophical debate - "well, it's the spirit of competition which is important!" or "maybe you should find some other outlets for your emotions" I just want the best vods to show someone, and for them not to be bored.

...AND.. thanks for all you suggestions so far!!

Jaedong vs Lomo on Katrina.
Great multitasking and comeback from Jaedong and lots of ooh ahh moments. On the other hand not too much action in the midgame and huge blunders by Lomo.

I think this game can speak for itself. SICK.

flash vs jaedong , that power outage game.

Not because of the power outage but because of the action just before it. So intense for so long time.

Definitely agree with the Light vs Tempest game, fuck that was hilarious. Not exactly a long game with a bunch of tech switches, but really entertaining.

Also, Free vs Jaedong on Athena in ClubDay MSL if you're looking to show a longer game.

One of the coolest PvZs ever.

It's really tough to get people into BW. I've tried a few times and I usually get a mixture of "blah blah BW has ugly graphics blah blah" or "lol Koreans are stupid they still play that 10 year old game?" Not everyone will suddenly become a BW fan especially with SC2 out now.
<Wolfpox> i remember when MVP beat that one guy, and everyone was like 'whoa' except that penguin dude.

Jeadong vs Leta in the Winners' League. This game had me rocking back on forth throughout without exaggeration and when you consider that + Show Spoiler [Match Result] +
Jeadong was 3-0 vs Hite at that point
it made it all the more epic. Just my personal preference for a more recent game tho, as Broodwar has had a myriad of excellent games throughout its history, and other people will probably point them out. This one had me tho

Amazing game, back and forth, nice tech switch from midas, and absolutely perfect aggression from jaedong.

Best way to get someone into BW is to actually play it with them, the VODs come after you are actually into it. I remeber I got into it when I saw my korean friend playing on bnet doing some awesome muta harrass while attacking with lings. After I had been playing for a couple weeks THEN he told me about how in korea there were players like boxer and yellow, etc and how they could win with just scvs or how hwasin was so fast he beat a lurker with a single marine. Also if you are going to show him a VOD show him some of the older ones as they tend to be more micro oriented and a lot less macro which seems boring to new players.

I've been looking for that bisu vs iris @ byzantium 3 game. I saw it once and thought it was the best game ever. then when I tried to think of it earlier I had completely forgotten the title. Iris is under pressure the whole time but some how turns out a win. That's the one game that convinced me that broodwar was a good spectator sport.

games that I haven't already seen listed:

jaedong vs flash @ rush hour 3 from last year's winners league semifinals
jaedong vs fantasy @ outsider from last year's Proleague finals
savior vs iris @ Neo Arkanoid
luxury vs upmagic @ outsider from proleague last year
bisu vs jaedong @ blue storm (i forget which league, GOM MSL S4 maybe?)
bisu vs flash @ blue storm (EVER08 OSL I think)
flash vs bisu @ heartbreak ridge (WCG korea 2009)
bisu vs kal @ outsider (recent STX vs SKT1 proleague playoffs match)
boxer vs killer @ tornado from proleague late last year

as far as english commentary goes, I think you should only use it if he absolutely wont watch without it. original korean VODs are just so much better (most english commentary is garbage and wont explain stuff to him well any way, and the original crowd and commentator reactions help make it so fun to watch).

a lot of games from the GSI might be good too since it was during tasteless' prime as a caster and also had good crowd reactions and whatnot (as well as a really epic 5-game final between stork and flash).

Bisu vs Jaedong on Bluestorm is what I always use for these purposes. Epic all the way through, lots of stuff exploding and dying.

Bisu vs Yellow on HBR is another fun one just to show the crowd atmosphere at SC games .

Going to second GGPlay vs Iris, game 5 on Python of the Daum OSL.

Edit: Rewatching it, I still don't know how the crap GGPlay pulled that game off. Right up until Iris falls apart at the end (which was largely a matter of the ultras coming out), it looks like GGPlay is just barely hanging on even with all the insane swarms and plagues he's pulling off.

My vote is for that semi recent game of Bisu v Jaedong on Judgement day? That shit was epic. it was during proleague r5, skt v oz set 3? or something. cant quite remember

(you know, trying to think of a good recent game, rather than a tried n true classic)

GGplay vs Stork is pretty terrible viewing for the hour or so in the middle, besides the novelty of the game going on for so long.

I'll put in another vote for Flash vs Jaedong on Rush Hour 3.

Agreed, I've watched SC2 and i just cannot contemplate how anyone could not think that BW is vastly superior spectator sport right now. Anyway, some good games:

Bisu vs Iris Game 5 on byzantium 3 (sick sick comeback)
Bisu vs Yellow on HBR (epic game + crowd flipping out)
GGPlay vs Iris OSL finals game 5 (such a great game of bio TvZ and the fact that GGPlay did a reverse sweep)
Jaedong vs Movie Byzantium 3 (JD expertly holding off the timing rushes again and again with so few units)
Flash vs Jaedong on RH3/Loki (high level TvZ and close games, what else to say)
fOrGG vs Stork on Athena (sick timing push and comeback, some really intense points)
Leta vs Jaedong on Outsider (Mutalisk vs Wraith micro, high level micro game + great play overall)
8/4/12 never forget, never forgive.

Jaedong vs Movie Byzantium 3 (JD expertly holding off the timing rushes again and again with so few units)
Flash vs Jaedong on RH3/Loki (high level TvZ and close games, what else to say)
fOrGG vs Stork on Athena (sick timing push and comeback, some really intense points)
Leta vs Jaedong on Outsider (Mutalisk vs Wraith micro, high level micro game + great play overall)

Savior vs Iris game 5 on Neo Arkanoid
Boxer vs Oov 2004 EVER OSL whole series
Stork vs GGplay on andromeda
Jaedong vs KaL on byzantium (2 hatch spire into scourge into double expand, the first time it was used I think)

EDIT: UpMaGiC vs Nal_ra on Nemesis sick sick MnM vs Reaver micro

what kind of friend are you, trying to force him to get into a 10+yr old game when the new and improved one is out??

sc2 is far superior for the actual act of watching a game. you can zoom in on battles, see all sorts of shit that you needed penguin to see back in bw and what not... it's pretty much not even debatable that SC2>BW for watching games.

I was gonna say that..when this thread was first posted but last time I mentioned it in a thread similar to this I got bashed

I think the most exciting thing about that game was Yellow beating a powerhouse like Bisu..and a newbie wouldn't know who yellow is and the significance of him beating bisu..so yeah
