Had mine pulled as well, all 4 at once. it can be a little nerve wracking knowing that they're gonna put you out, but everything'll be fine. its actually kinda freaky knowing theres a gap of several hours you cant hope to remember.

oh! pro-tip: wear an old pair of pants/shirt that you arent very attached to, because the anathesia sometimes makes some people pee/poop themselves.

I had all 4 at once done. It was painful for the first day but beyond that I only needed my pain meds (percocet) when I ate, and even then only if it was solid food (so only for ~1 week). Your experience may differ.

The anesthesia was no problem. They told me to tell them when I started to feel drowsy after the IV was inserted. I didn't get that far. I was out in maybe 15 seconds. I woke up after the procedure was done in no pain, went to Wendys and ate (don't overdo it here - you can cause some damage without realizing it if the bites you take are too large or you eat food that isn't, y'know, basically liquid), then got my prescription filled. It was bad for the rest of the day and the next, but not past that.

Hope your experience isn't too bad.

weird, i got my wisdom teeth removed and i experienced no pain afterwards... they gave me medication but i didn't even need it. only thing that bothered me was a mild annoying string or two stuck in my face that i could taste the tips of with my teeth. the only thing i remember about the procedure was that after everything was done, i was laughing my ass off at everything that occured once i woke up, then fell back asleep in the car ride home.

I had all four removed at once and it wasn't that bad. I was actually awake during the entire time and didn't feel a thing. The worse part was actually getting the anesthesia because shots in your cheeks is kinda

They also gave me these pain killer things but I never needed them. Only inconvenience was that I couldn't really eat rice (I'm asian) because of the four holes I now had in my mouth :p

For me, I sat/laid down on their contraption of something or other while the dentist tried to make small talk under circumstances where I wouldn't have wanted to respond. I went to sleep and woke up with nurses shoving gauze in my mouth. My face was numb for the majority of the day, wherein I essentially slept, read, and took a T3 whenever I felt like I needed it.

I didn't smoke for three days (which is a long time for me) due to my wariness over getting a dry socket. Dry sockets are where the wound left by the absent teeth is either too dry to heal properly or where the blood clot on the wound falls off. From what I've heard, it is one of the most god-awfully painful things you can ever have happen to you and to be avoided. Therefore, I ate gourmet soups for the week (being at home with parents who can cook is crucial during the recuperation period because otherwise you'll be too zonked to cook anything yourself and/or you'll eat lousily from cans). It was during a reading week at my university and being that I had ample opportunity to sit in bed and read, I wasn't behind much at all.

Mind your diet. Rinse after every meal or anything involving your mouth. No straws or cigarettes for at least three days. Make sure there's nothing too strenuous scheduled for that week or so. Follow their directions and schedule a check-up for the next week. And you'll be fine.

My wisdom teeth removal wasn't bad at all. I just got numbed, and a little laughing gas during the operation. I returned to school a few hours after the operation and was feeling almost completly better the next day, other than minor soreness while eating. No problems with swelling, bleeding, pain, or dry sockets.

Only thing that sucks is that you can still bleed a bit after the operation and with a numbed mouth you dont realize your bleeding until its like dripping out of your mouth, which is pretty gross. Just be prepared with tissues.

heyyyy at least u are getting anesthesia...hahah someone i know had their wisdom teeth pulled O_O
but yeah i got rid of all 4 in one going as well. its not as bad as u think. HF!

So I'm also 18 and going of to college, but how am I supposed to know when I need my wisdom teeth taken out. I was told to wait till it starts hurting, but that hasn't happen. Do they come out later for different people? My friend was born never having wisdom teeth...not fair

They can come out at different times, yes, but some people never need them taken out.

my top two have grown in without impact, i have 1 bottom growing in without impacting and im still waiting on one more. i experience very little pain unless i bite down on the wisdom tooth that is growing. i just turned 20, i wont get them out unless there is cause to do so

My feelings on the process.

Easy: The removal. With general it's a total nonissue, but I got local and it wasn't a huge deal. It's a bit disturbing as you can, in a sense, feel them yanking your teeth out, but it's not as unsettling as I thought it might be and there's zero pain if your dentist is competent with the anesthesia.

Annoying: The anesthesia. Most of the numbing injections I got were only minimally painful, but the one they did in the roof of my mouth was a real bitch. I opted for Nitrous Oxide to make the ordeal more pleasant. First time around it did a good job relaxing me but it was nothing to write home about. Second time I think I was given too much as I got really dizzy and nauseous. Felt like I was going to puke or faint for 10 minutes afterwards.

Bad: The pain afterwards. I got each side done separately. The right side was first and my pain was limited to slight soreness. The left side was a more complex extraction, and the pain kicked in within about 6 hours after the procedure. Even with drugs I was having a pretty rough time for 36 hours. Constant dull pain with occasional sharp kicks.

FUUUUUUUUUUU: Liquid diet, I wasn't concerned about this in the slightest pre-op, but it got to be really awful. I know some people are able to eat after a couple days, but I didn't move past semi-solids for about 5 days each time. You just long for a big juicy burger and you have to settle for tomatto soup and Ensure meal supplements. What made matters worse is how gross my mouth always felt. The soup and thick meal replacement drinks coupled with excessive saliva and blood gave my mouth this awful, gooey coating. I tried to rinse it away, but it would always come back eventually (plus you can't really rinse your mouth for fear of getting dry socket). Feeling constantly uncomfortable and hungry sucks.

To be fair, most people I've talked to have had an easier time with it. What I went through is probably worse than what you will experience (unless your teeth are really impacted). My cousin just got hers done and there was practically no swelling or pain.

My God... so many people have had their wisdom teeth pulled out. I hadn't even heard of such a thing until now. If I go to the dentist and she tells me I need my wisdom teeth pulled out I would stand up and leave. lol So what's the reason? Does it hurt you or is it aesthetic?

Wisdom teeth can prevent your normal teeth in the back from growing the right way. Bassicly screwing up all your teeth :p

So it's not aesthetic, you don't even see your wisdom teeth until you really open your mouth haha.

And why leave, if you don't do it now it's bound to hurt alot worse in the future.

Why do you get the option for GA? When I had my wisdom teeth pulled (3 at one go), it was just a blindfold and a buttload of injections. There wasn't even prior warning. I just went in for a routine checkup and the dentist said, "hmmm... these need to come out. Right, let's pull them out now." I told him, "wait! I'm saving them for when I want to get sick leave from work!" but he didn't listen.

Depends. The best way to find out is to get some x-rays done(posterior bitewings), it will show exactly where and how the wisdom teeth are growing, if they're growing straight and normal you will never have to get them removed unless they start causing pain. Some people have their wisdom teeth growing backwards or pushing the rest of their teeth which distorts their bite which is why a lot of people get them removed.

Also the storyteller => get a better dentist.

I had 6 removed at once (4 wisdom, 2 [tooth between canine and molar]). Just eat baby food for like a week (it's delicious, seriously). Don't take any pain killers. For me, they didn't do much. There was a lingering soreness in my mouth for like a day and a half, so it wasn't bad. Side effects of pain killers are worse than what they're supposed to alleviate.
