Summer Slaughter 2010 Vital Remains Animals as Leaders Carnifex Decrepit Birth Veil of Maya The Red Chord All Shall Perish The Faceless Decapitated
So after I found out that the Faceless was supposed to play in SS 2010 (surprise surprise), I quickly bought a ticket and eagerly awaited July 17th when the tour was coming to San Diego.
As I listen mostly to progressive metal/progressive death metal, I hadn't listened to half the bands when I went. All of them were at least decent. And there are definitely a couple bands that I really am starting to take a liking to - I listened through Veil of Maya's second album once or twice and didn't think much of it, but after hearing them live (which was fucking awesome ) im starting to really dig this band, because they have some sick breakdown riffs that go beyond the average deathcore band. Animals As Leaders was fucking amazing - as amazing as much as they did't really belong in a death-metal concert. I was really glad they played in it, because I haven't heard that much of them, but they are a very sick instrumental prog metal band. You should check them out if you are into that stuff. All Shall Perish was very good, but personally, im not a big fan of the vocalist's style (very strong vocals, just don't like his style). I was a bit of a Carnifex fan - super satisfying stuff to listen to if you are in the give me heavy shit + breakdowns and no bullshit kind of mood, and they were pretty much spot on to their album tracks live.
The Faceless played 2nd to last in the lineup, and I was so fucking bummed. After waiting for like 4 hours for them to come on, they're finally setting up and im fucking stoked. but they take a while to set up, and the red chord/all shall perish went a bit past their time limit. which means the faceless has very little time to play as they have to give leeway to the headlining band, so they play a total of 4 songs. 4 fucking songs before they are kicked off the stage. all of them were from 1 album, and they "had more ready" but were "out of time"... god i was so bummed. last time i went to the mastodon show to see between the buried and me, the same fucking thing happened, because BTBAM was playing 2nd to last... which i guess means all the times that bands went over their limit is taken out on them. so i was pretty pissed about that
but going on, it was honestly my first time hearing decapitated. they were pretty awesome, and the vocalist is a fucking beast! he was holding like 10+ second high screams consistently throughout the show... and he had an awesome accent ^^.
Id post pics, but evidently my new phone didnt come with a fucking usb connector to the computer.. like wtf.
Anyways, those are my thoughts from the show in San Diego. Has anybody else gone to/will be going to Summer Slaughter 2010?

nice to hear you had a great time ^^
haha the faceless played 4 songs off their new album only... i was actually disappointed about that because I like both albums
i partially agree with you about the first album being "standard deathcore". the influences are definitely there, but i feel they use those elements in conservative amounts. i feel even the first album is still way too technical and proggish to be labelled as "standard deathcore"

i'm going august first @ the palladium in massachusetts. going to be fucking sick, I cannot fucking wait.
going to be my 6th time seeing all shall perish, the red chord, and veil of maya, 3rd time faceless, and the rest i've seen at least once or twice. going to be fucking sick, can't wait.
and btw theres no point in fighting with people who think this music is garbage -- they are ignorant and don't see the skill involved. me being in 3 bands, 2 of which are successful (touring + cds) i can say theres so much more that goes into this shit than anybody gives credit for

sorry man :/ but i honestly dont listen to that much straight up death metal bands, so i cant make an educated statement about them
though i have to say, that im not a huge deathcore fan at that either. only when im in the right mood, cuz some of these bands (*ahem* carnifex) really could cut down on the breakdowns, by like a lot lol.

thats sick man! and i totally agree with you - these bands are fucking signed and at least somewhat famous... you gotta have some amount of talent or at least technical skill/execution to get that sort of attention. theres a huge difference between saying that one doesn't like a band versus saying its complete crap.
