So Canada day was yesterday, and I would like to preach some great music - of a variety of genres - that many people outside of Canada (and many inside of Canada) may not already know.
1. Metric! - a four person band originating from Toronto - they have a very unique sound. At first, I didn't much care for the lead singer, but now, I quite like the way it sounds.
2. Deadmau5! - my personal favourite DJ/remixer - he is also based in Toronto and I only just heard of him when he played at the Olympic venues in Vancouver and Whistler. His songs have some strange titles, and so do his albums ("For lack of a better name"), but his music is very good If you like house, you will like deadmau5.
3. Bedouin Soundclash! - another great group that plays with a reggae/rock style - also based in Toronto (O_o) they have a nice rhythm and I believe that they are pretty well known.
4. Default! - another one of my recent favourites - they are from Vancouver (yay!) and they are like a good version of Nickelback. They have had some success in the states as well.
5. Finger Eleven! - the first band here that did not play at the Olympics so far (as far as I know) - they are a heavier rock band, yet they have some soft songs as well. In short, they play many different types of songs. One of my favourites for sure. From Ontario.
6. Prozzak! - I don't expect a lot of people to enjoy their music as it is a bit outdated, but they have a very unique sound to them. This pair from Toronto were quite popular in Canada in the late 90's and early 2000's, but have since disbanded and have all but disappeared. Hopefully, I can convert some more fans
7. 54-40! - an older rock band that I do not believe is very well known - it is best to just listen to them and decide for yourselves whether or not you like them. Oh and they are also from Vancouver.
Anyways, that is all that I will post for now, I hope that I can gather some more fans of these great groups! Feel free to add some more great bands to this list. Happy Canada day (yesterday ) everybody! Here's to spreading around good Canadian music and to dissing Nickelback!
