When I first got started in the beta I wasn’t exactly sure what I was going to do. I wanted to do something good for listeners of the show and yet I had no friends with beta keys. I laddered a bit, being a scrub and getting bumped into the copper league. I made some VODs and finally got myself involved with the Team Liquid community. It was great, but still I was very much alone.
Then we meet a time period I could only call the Rilgon era. For the first time in the beta someone I knew was actually playing with me. Rilgon and I became inseparable and did tons of 2v2 games together and despite us both being awful it turned out really fun. Eventually the tournaments started and that was where I became HOOKED on the pro scene. I remember my first real tournament I watched and got excited about was the Team Liquid Invitational and man, it was a ball.
Que a few more patches and Rilgon with his favourite pastime of getting offended, stopped talking to me and actually hasn’t uttered a word in my direction since April, and a nice word since before that. I was disheartened, but since quitting WoW I was having a lot of fun times just playing 1v1s and looking for new 2v2 partners. I have had a few, but none as long as the one with Rilgon.
Then the Starcraft 2 Practice Partners thread began and with that came the nightly KOTH practice sessions. We had a great time and I met a few really good friends through these epic nights of many people watching us all play each other in a King of the Hill fashion. It petered in and out over time but for the most part we had the same core people around. Zack stopped playing and I became friends with Evan and even reignited an old friendship from high-school. This did eventually die as server resets would wipe friends lists and we would simply lose track of people.
Krissirk, tehschoolbus, tetrawr, Kezz, Kurt Russel, you will all be missed
I then started playing SC2 less and less with the end of school which was fine, when it ended though all ym friends were long gone save Jubbz and Devin. But this wasn’t the end no no no. Let’s talk about Tropic.
We met through the practice partners thread and restarted the round robin with some old faces and some new. This actually formed into the team we today are calling the clan Cryo’State and are currently my friends and practice partners.
Igor, Evan, Zach, Jaden, you guys are boss, we had a lot of fun and hopefully much more to come.
So now I face several weeks without any SC2, a big part of my life since February just gone. What do I plan on doing? Well I intend to keep the show going, I have all of June booked for interviews. I got a bunch of articles to write for you guys, some books to read that I have neglected, work to still look for, and of course creative writing and my other online projects. I want to try and run a commentary show hopefully daily in the evenings and besides that, I dunno maybe some LoL?
I had some great fun and I hope we can all weather the drought together and have some fun . GLHF til phase 2 all!
