Regardless, there's a neat little program popping up on the science channel very soon. How this program got my intention, and more importantly got my rocks off, is the inclusion of this sexy bastard.
The series hasn't started yet, but it's site is open already so you can look up more information.
This is an 8 part series on all things tech and phys: Is there a creator? The riddle of black holes Is time travel possible? What happened before the beginning How did we get here? Are we alone? What are we made of? Beyond the darkness
Wednesday, June 9 is the date. Science channel is the place.
Why watch this show? Most TL members already know the answers to these questions with their "informed opinions" based on their internet research -_-.
In all seriousness, it sounds interesting...and with that sexy bastard, I'll definitely be looking out for reruns - it airs the day before I have a final ):

You could just read the info in 1/10 the time.
Yeah the information is usually redundant but I love them for the eye-candy cgi. I'll be watching it for the cgi and Freeman's voice.

its always good to see things from different angles and look for these, and to challenge the structure of reasoning you have built for yourself. you could always be wrong or wrongly informed without knowing it!

Oh I know.
I'm just saying that most of TL is made up of pretentious pseudo-intellectual atheists who think they have it all figured out thanks to too much time spent on Wikipedia.

They're so closed-minded, it's saddening, really.
oh.. in that case im sorry. that possibility escaped my mind. i will not bring it up again.
I'm going to watch it just because Morgan Freeman is in there.
I always like these type of things, though I do wonder how people are going to react with Freeman's statement about science and religion meshing together. A lot of people are still uncomfortable of the two coexisting.
I wish Morgan Freeman could narrate everything in the universe. I don't have science channel but I love shows like this so I will try to follow through other means.

Better than non-intellectual theists... You are basically complaining that this forum is filled with open minded people who are attempting to improve themselves and understand and explain the universe... yeah that's such a terrible thing isn't it. What happened to the good old dark ages?

Who are you even lashing out against? Documentaries on discovery can actually be a little thin on facts with lots of repetitions imo.

Eh, for the purposes of broad overviews on a given topic Wikipedia is as good of a place to start as any. Also, doesn't the fact that they even bother to read upon the subject mean that they are not close minded? What's really saddening are those who don't even take that step and cling doggedly to their dogma.

The bigger problem is the naive and narrow view such people have on what they're apparently against. An even bigger problem is the discriminatory attitude they take up against such people, as if they've done something directly offensive to them.
Wikipedia is definitely a good place to start, but it's only that. It's a good place to start. It's not that the information on there isn't reliable, it's just that it's horribly limited in scope, and usually only approaches topics from one or a few writer's/writers' point(s) of view. Especially on things like philosophical questions, taking a class on the same topic with five different professors will basically end up with you learning five different things.
Good place to start. Not great, and not really bad except in that it suddenly leads to waves of armchair philosophers who think they actually understand, really, anything at all.

Someone hit a sore spot?
Not really, I just disagree.

Its close minded to assume that all atheists are dumb too! :p
so now that the first episode aired im kind of concerned that theyre cutting intelligent design way too much slack and are not critical/sceptical/RATIONAL enough.
i think that's very dangerous in a nation where more than 80% of the population are christian, even more are religious, 40% want only intelligent design taught in schools and another 40% want it taught on equal grounds with evolution.
I suggest watching this, it's not the typical rehashed theories on reality as they do try and introduce new ideas into this type of genre. The first episode is out on youtube and after watching it I can testify that it is i think somewhat biased to intelligent design, but they also do present scientific counter arguments against it also, some of which are quite interesting. I highly recommend this series so far. Here are the links to the first episode, perhaps they could be added to the op.

this is gold. anyways, ill watch this when i have the time, biased or not.
They're certainly not all dumb. But anyone who's too self-assured about anything probably is, indeed, dumb.
You certainly know nothing about atheism. It's not we are sure there is no god. We simply don't believe it. Why should we? If I told you that there is a holy teacup between mars and jupiter I strongly believed in, but which I have no evidence for, then certainly you would not believe me. Would I have the right to call you arrogant and self-assured only because you don't believe my silly story which I have no evidence for? What's wrong with you people, how can you have such a sick sense of logic? Being an atheist is nothing than thinking critically, about yourself and about the world as a whole. Which is exactly what religion does not want you to do, it just wants you to blindly believe and follow, which is why we have to deal with so much shit in the world. Which is why religion offends me, because it is responsible for so much sick things that are happening daily.
