If you would divert your attention to the calender briefly you will notice that the S2G invitational will commence at 18:00 KST tonight. Also, the MSL Grand Final will start at 17:00 KST tonight, but after the pregame show, the games are likely to start around 18:00 tonight as well. i.e. major SC and SC2 tournaments will be broadcast at exactly the same time.

Is this the beginning of the SC vs SC2 war in Korea? Will GOM succeed in drawing enough attention away from one of the biggest SC finals in history? What are you going to be watching?!?!

I'll try to get both up and going at the same time if I can figure out how to stream GOM. Anyone know of they are going to have a foreigner friendly link?

Indeed. MSL finals between JD and Flash seems like it would be more fun than watching the semi's of S2G.

The way I see it, I can either watch:

A tournament for a game still in the beta testing stage being played by players I've never heard of (Unless Vical is the old khan(?) protoss and Rainbow is (P)IntoTheRainBOw)

OR

The grand finals of a BW tournament where two of the most skilled players to ever play this game will be competing for a first place prize of around 35,000 USD.

Which one am I going to watch? The answer should be obvious.

IDK what GOM/Blizzard are thinking. Unless they're going to have lawyers show up at the MSL Final and be all "Hey you can't play." (GL surviving that one, lawyers.) Why not start on a weekday when at least the hype of "new game, new game" could drown mediocre PL matchups?

I've watched very little SC1 since the beta started, and I've watched tons of SC2. However, there's no way I'd miss JD vs Flash to watch an insignificant SC2 beta tournament.

To be honest e-sport is not big enough in Korea for both games to divide the viewers, compared to multiple club football matches being shown as an example(since football is Korea's biggest sport). If they keep on trying to compete with each other directly for the biggest tv events, they are just going end up hurting themselves.
SC and SC2 can co-exist, but it's foolish for them to try duke it out head-to-head.
Perhaps GOM is just trying out this semifinal SC2 tournament just to see how many viewers SC2 can draw potentially against something like a Starleague final.

Finals vs a non finals, definitely JD vs Flash..

Either to watch Flash getting none of his champ, or just getting only, or golden batch for JD.. Hmm..

I don't know why they would schedule it vs a starleague finals, theres no way they will get any viewers live.

Flash vs JD all the way!

The only way that I would choose SC2 over Flash vs Jaedong MSL final would probably be Boxer vs Yellow in on Steppes of War.

Do you even need to ask?

BW events will surely trump SC2 events for any foreseeable future. Also, holy smokes that word has a lot of vowels.

Foreseeable future could be when we get expansions and patches that make the ".08" difference.
seriously next disrespectful comment in this blog is ip ban. Be happy or get the hell out. // SC2 is like playing with neutral-colored Play-Doh while BW is like colorful Legos.

I don't even know or care who's playing in the sc2 event. JD vs Flash should be better.

If GOM planned to contend with SC1 events, they picked a poor one to fight with, especially given that the knowledge is out there that this is potentially the last (and greatest) BW finals ever.

Think it was pretty dumb of GOM to schedule it for the same time. Yes, it's an early start to the competition, but no way in hell are they going to get a decent viewership when Jaedong and Flash are playing against each other in a Bo5. The people who just got into the game with SC2 might watch it, but I doubt many others will.

Even if I hated both of them, I would still watch this series.

It's okay, in three months time, MBCgame will be out of business and they won't have to worry about these embarassing scheduling conflicts.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. Soooo hyped for this that anything less than, say, a GGPlay vs Iris quality series will be a letdown!

I mean like, maybe some people would be persuaded if it were your average proleague match vs SC2 (not me), but Jaedong vs Flash finals is like a dream come true, no matter how many times it happens.

lmao, at this stage, shouldn't GOM try to AVOID MBC rather than actually trying to compete with it? All that's going to happen now is that nobody is going to watch GOM.

I would love to watch SC2 on GOM.

But, absolutely not during the MSL finals, are you crazy? I'm not staying up till 4AM to watch SC2. Maybe i'll peek in between games.

you guys just don't get it

GOM is using the fact that everyones going to be on watching this finals to make it easier for them to introduce their product to the masses whereas if it were at some other random time alot of ppl would be totally unaware of it. it doesn't matter to them at this point if you watch the whole thing, only that you know it exists
why so 진지해?

^^This. Besides, given how much downtime there is between matches expect people to flip over to Gom to check out SC2. Everything has to start somewhere, and this is a great time to introduce the new e-sports to the masses.
