I have said many times that TL is awesome and it is the people here that make it so.
I have been gifted 2 keys from TL members. I am sharing one with 5 or so family and friends (can't sustain more than that). I have one for you if you are playing from Africa.
(I will get an admin to IP check)
This key will go tonight. Please let the brothers know!
Simple rules: - You must be an African or living here. - You must add me as a b.net friend when you get the key so that I know where to find you if I start an African clan/tourney (my user: ZeroOneOne.capetownza) - Just post here and tell me how you will improve the african TL community

Yup, thats the 2nd person I know. Not sure if he is active on TL at the moment. When it comes to internet and SC2 beta keys - its damn poverty man!
|
On which servers are you playing from South Africa and how is the lag? I think the least laggy for you will be the EU one. I think connections to South Africa are routed either through London or Hong Kong.
|
I haven't tested latency yet, but EU will likely be better. I don't even know where to find which server I am connected too!?
SA gaming website reported some latency tests. Seems to be playable on a 512Mbs DSL line (which i dont have - 384 baby!)
|
Well for online gaming the bandwidth doesn't matter, the latency is important. I thought you would know which server you are using . When you login to your battle.net account look at the URL, if it says eu.battle.net is EU, us.battle.net is USA and tw/kr.battle.net is Asia.
|
I remember looking at some game on the Xbox 360 that had these dots on a globe that showed where people where people were connecting from. The U.S. was glowing, but Africa had a small dot near the middle of it haha.
Anyways, thanks for giving out your beta keys and, indirectly, spreading Esports!

Because someone with 1 post is really reputable.
|
Yeah there should be a post count requirement too so people dont use proxies and make fake african accounts
|
heyo, what a coincidence that we share a similar nick! I'm from SA, Cape Town even. I do not need a key but I know of several that do.
Why don't you drop into the local IRC network Shadowfire and join #starcraft2 - There's plenty folks in there that could use a spare key that may be floating around. If you've given the key out already why not drop in anyway and meet up with your fellow ZA gamers that you're not aware of!
|
Thanks guys,
Instead of a post count, I would like to give the key to an african that has been on TL at least since March year. It's some contribution toward this community.
I will definitely drop into the IRC network to come have a chat. Glad to see some of the guys come out of the woodwork!

Please write an essay in Afrikaans on why you deserve the key.
|
Well I guess he can do an IP check like he said, but whatever :D

Well my story with SC1 happened by complete accident, =). I was lucky enough to be living abroad at the time (I was living in Romania) and during that time starcraft 1 was released and I just happened to go to a friends birthday party and behold, he had gotten the game as a present. I was instantly hooked, I bought the game soon afterwards (My first PC game) and played it like crazy. Some of my fondest memories are of me going with my friends to a cyber cafe and playing starcraft on LAN. Unfortunately a little after broodwars came out I had to return to my country of Egypt and the internet infrasctructure was still pretty weak back then so playing online starcraft had become very difficult. Yet I tried to play when I could. These past years, internet and the communication infrastructure in Egypt has took off and I want to take this opportunity to get into the starcraft 2 community and contribute as well as enjoy one of the games that I truly have a fondness towards. As soon as starcraft 2 came out I was checking the website like a madman and reading up on the different units and buildings and whatnot. Have participated in different competitions but have yet to win and I also registered on battlenet and applied for the beta but got no reply or result. My one disappointment however is that blizzard still doesn't feel that Africa is worth the time to setup a server in, and the marginalization of a community of gamers that I believe can contribute to the improvement of the starcraft gaming experience.
Not a lot of Africans online or they have not yet posted, I guess that makes me the 4th African you now know =).

Hi guys Key has been given to Tazman from Egypt

HEY, I'm from South Africa and I can't speak Afrikaans at all My parents use it when they don't want me to understand what they're saying. Jerks.
Fun fact, I nonetheless have an Afrikaans word tattooed on my arm.

I remember some years back Africa having a national team on WGT. I wonder what happen to all those folks.
|
They seem to not be on TL though - thats what counts right? hehe.
I saw a guy post an IRC channel where the locals seem to hang out. Will get them to join and hopefully we can get a team out there again soon!
