I just spent probably 8 hours of my life competing in the self-nominated beta key giveaway and walked away with nothing. Now most people would be super shitty and not contribute after something like that. Of course those are the ones that were only in it for themselves and not the TL community in the slightest. Even though they swore up and down they would become the greatest member of all time. Lol that's obviously a little over exaggerated but you know where I'm coming from. I personally want to thank TL for running such a hilarious and exciting competition. I made a handful of new friends and I had an all around great time. It really gave me an idea of how strongly the older member's passion is for this site. I didn't want to come off as a beggar but that was almost impossible since I just became a member at the beginning of April lol. Anyways for any of you that participated, what are your thoughts about that whole ordeal? Good? Bad?

I approve of this post. Since not anybody can write spectacular articles or wake up at 4 am to update livereport threads, the one thing you could do if you do get a beta key is share it with some other members.

Pick someone you know/thrust or w/e, but generally a person with 5k posts or so is 100% trustworthy around here (if you find someone who's in a very different timezone it's a win-win situation since you won't be able to play 24 hours a day no matter how much you like sc)

So many people in that "contest" ended up being so ungrateful. Despite actually having a chance at something they never really should have in the first place. I think the general problem was a complete lack of understanding what it meant to "nominate".

The fact that you're still posting after getting nothing from that contest should land you in pretty much everyones good book

I wasn't impressed with such a change in contest ;/, I'm ~95% sure I would've gotten the key, if it contest went as planned. I'm not that much better at painting/filming creative videos, creating maps or creating jokes to get a key in other contests, and I missed a chance to get a key from SC:BW Tournaments (from german site that I don't remember), because I had to go on to vacation for 10 days ;/. I also tried to compete in Fnatic tournament, but when A/A- players started participating in it, I obviously, failed. This was one of my last chances to get a key =S and the admins decided to pull a joke and change the contest =/.

I don't look at it like none of them deserve to have a beta key because everyone on this site would love to have one. It just made me realize I didn't deserve to receive one from TL. Being new I really haven't done anything for members to feel they should give me a key, even though my intentions were to genuinely help the community. I really have a stronger respect for everyone that has been with TL for longer than a few weeks, and I feel like an asshole for staying in it for so long. I hope those of you who have been on here for a while and still do not have a key they give you one at some point before the beta ends.

Thanks . It still boggles my mind that such a community exists. It's nice knowing I can come here and talk about this game that I love with people that love it just as much as I do. As opposed to talking my friends' ears off about something they could care less about lol.

I was in the mindset of I've committed too much time into it and at that point excitement and lack of sleep just set in. My intentions were to actually help this community through a beta but in hind site I really don't need something like that to be a solid member of TL. Also the outcome really never became clear until it was all over. From all the rumors of there being like 30-40 keys actually available was probably the reason why the other 25 stayed in. I spoke with someone through PM that if we were only a few short and we were both still in I was going to drop so he could get a key over myself, but he dropped out a day before.

Never clear? Come on. This is how it always ends and it this prediction was voice by many people in the topic. Even so you could have opted out at the very last moment but you didn't. The "rumours" about 30 keys were ridiculous and spread by the contestants themselves.

there is nothing dickish about it, any person who actually used his head would know it would end up like this from the start by just reading the post/rules. It was just a fun social science experiment, that's all. I really dont get why people refuse to give it up, you are going to play the game in a couple of months, so why the rush.

I feel that i didn't deserve the beta key, my posting is rubbish. Right now im spamming to get that Hydralisk icon

Im having a great time on battle.net, even though im getting raped in 1v1 me and a german dude is pretty good at raping noobs in 2v2s at Twilight Fortress (i <3 that map, reminds me of the SC1 maps (8)Crystal Castles and (8)Allied Fortress. I have some of my most memorable games on those maps ;D).

Now that i have a key i feel really sorry for those who don't as i know what they and i once missed out on, if i wouldn't already have voted for sTY_leZerG-eX to get a key you would have been a definitive contender.
I admire your way of not being mad about missing out on such a opportunity

Hey cloudJR :D

Yeah, it's been a pretty interesting experience for everyone, but I must say, it's been probably the best I've had so far on this site. I'm pretty new to the TL community, but there's just so much around here that makes me feel excited to contribute!

Overall, I think the opportunity was great, and it was a pretty good bonding experience too.

P.S. We better still be up for those 1v1s when the game comes out!

Maybe not dickish, but misconceived that could be perceived as dickish.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Hot_Bid believed everyone in the list should be given an opportunity for redemption (as he states in the last post of this thread here). By this logic, he assumes people who self-nominated did something wrong. Not all of the self-nominators were blatantly undeserving. I wouldn't put Blind, lolaloc, jhNz, Kinky, IndecisivePenguin, zTz, NightOfTheDead in the same company of people who simply registered once to say they nominate themselves without even trying to give a reason. Hot_Bid takes the assumption that nominating yourself means not having made any contribution and so he creates a messed up contest to toy with these people's desires. Many of these people shouldn't have to 'redeem' themselves. They have contributed or at least made an effort trying to sell their potential of contribution. It's not a secret that people are willing to go to great lengths to get a beta. Hot_Bid knows that. Just look at the number of unknowns who came up with fantastic videos in HD's and Husky's contests. This contest however was punishment for self-nominating, a punishment that no one deserved, some less deserving of it than others. Someone brought the example of calling the wrong number and getting yelled at "You stupid a-hole, don't ever dial the wrong number again." That's TL on the other line. Sure, after maybe 100 wrong numbers, TL would be getting pretty annoyed, but that doesn't justify a retort of this kind when directed at reasonable people.

Those of you who got chosen for opting-in with Blizzard, wouldn't you have thought them being a dick if they said 'Oh sorry, we don't have enough keys to please everyone so no one's getting any. It's your fault for not opting out until our number of keys equal the number of participants.' Do you even know your competition when you opt-in? Do you even care who might be losing out on an opportunity because you opted in? I'm still opted-into Blizzard and I hope I win. I won't feel guilty for winning if I do, it's not like I can handpick who deserves a key and who doesn't. If someone deserving doesn't get into the beta, I don't see how it's my fault, it's Blizzard's.

Anyway, my thoughts. Fun thread to argue in, I feel like a winner for getting to know some of you better, even if we disagree.

The fact that those names stand out to you means that they didn't need to "redeem" themselves.

The fact that those names stand out to you means that they didn't need to "redeem" themselves.

Then why should they be put on the spot and be asked to "redeem" themselves in the first place?

"Hey, I know you're not an asshole, but I'm forcing you to go to this asshole rehabilitation center to change your ways. Yea, yea. I know you have nothing to change, but you're going anyway. I would join you too if I were an asshole. Oh woops! Sorry again! I don't mean to imply you are, but erm.. I do? "

That's messed up!

Even if I was not the part of that self nominating thingy and I don't know much about it. From listening to your opinion it's good, it's very good. I am even newer they you are and seeing people greeting you so warmly puts a smile on my face. But yeah you didn't get a key it looks bad but you actually had 8 hrs of fun and talk=very good! And you now have new opportunity with 500 new keys just for TL. I personally hope for one, but since I am here like, few days...., i don't really think I'll get a key but for any 500 lucky guys out there. It will make their day.
Cheers mate!
