So I found this cool documentary yesterday.
It's called "I want to look like that guy" and is about a regular american guy who is a bit overweight, who makes a complete transformation in just a couple of months and enters a natural bodybuilding competition totally ripped. He's not a bulking monster but has a lean, muscular physique.
The documentary features Jeff Willet, who's one of the most accomplished drug-free bodybuilders in the world. He coaches the guy to a total physical makeover.
Enjoy!

Is this purely for body building or does it apply to toning as well? Though I'm sure there are quite a few aspects that overlap.

Basically he gets in shape. It's natural bodybuilding (light-weight) so he looks pretty normal, but ripped. Not a huge monster at all

Reminds me of a television show from Britain, Extreme Male Beauty or something where a flabby guy tries a bunch of methods for becoming better looking each week, as well as does polls and research on what women really like, what men really think, etc, it was really interesting. Most important thing I learned from that show is that Jelqing actually works. I dunno if I spelled that right, but its basically a method of making your dick bigger.
He tried out one of those abtronic belts too, and pissed himself. Awesome show.
Gonna watch this one now, I need inspiration.

There is no such thing as "toning". In terms of how you appear, you can modify the size of your muscles and you can modify the total amount of body fat you have. That is all you can do. How you train determines how fast you reach your muscular size goals and fat level goals, and really nothing else.
Strength is another matter but that has nothing to do with how you appear.
I'm also really dubious about him not using steroids. He's old and basically has a body that seems to be at least even with the very best natural bodybuilders in the world after very little time. I'll go so far as to say I'm quite certain he juiced at some point.

Can't watch, it just loads forever

According to his blog he said he tried out pro-hormones (not steroids) in '99 but didn't think they did much for him so he quit. Other than that he does the Max-OT regimen, creatine, protein and strict nutrition.
The guy seems pretty honest imo

Natural bodybuilding has nothing to do with weight, it just means without aids like AAS (Anabolic Androgenic Steroids) or HGH (Human Growth Hormone) or, and this depends on where you stand, not using pro-hormones. I haven't watched the doc. yet but I've heard he followed a program that focuses on 5-8 reps, all sets to failure, a type of HIT workout, which is the opposite of "light weights".

From the chest shot pic up there he looks like he would be a serious competitor at the top of natural bodybuilding. Nobody gets there without 5+ years of solid work or juicing, and this guy already has the disadvantage of being quite old to start working out. I'm pretty certain he was using pro-hormones or AAS.
PS Nobody ever admits to using gear. Every single pro bodybuilder (ie Jay Cutler) claims to be drug free. If you take people at their word then steroids practically don't exist and no professional has ever used them, no matter how ridiculous their body is.

I meant lightweight as in weight class....
Yeah, he does Max-OT. Heavy basic compound lifts and HIIT workouts

He won his first competetions when was around 18-20...get your facts straight lol. I'm not saying he was drug free BUT they do test the athletes for alot of stuff at the competitions he has been in.
Yeah but you can't compare this guy to Jay Cutler, there is a huge difference in body mass.

Maybe he didn't juice, hard to say. I'll have to watch the doc to get more shots of his body to actually see how big he is. I take back that he def juiced though, he could be natty.

As I said, I haven't watched the doc and just have heard some basic background stuff about it from elsewhere. I'll check it out today/tomorrow though.

damn takes forever to load.... ima go eat dinner and come back afterwards and see if i can get anywhere with it. It sounds like a cool documentary.

Interesting video for sure. They didn't show him shaving his arms, I assume he had to do it at least 3 times a week. Add the chest and abs - really time consuming.
Damn, emotional moment towards the end when he cried in his SUV.

here's a pretty good before/after from the film

Awesome dude, I'm adding the pics to the OP!

If he did that in less than a year definitely juicing or using something.
A lot of the before/after pics for a lot of programs are from people who are paid to let themselves get out of shape. Then when they start getting themselves back in shape and cut up it takes significantly less time because the body has already been in that shape before. It's possible he did that, but it's still extremely unlikely he did that in that amount of time without gear.
Regardless, the point of anything in the gym is to work hard and consistently. If you work with intensity and are consistent in your workouts you will definitely see positive changes.

I think they were talking about his coach( maybe I'm wrong), no way in hell the guy in the picture "juiced" himself.

Somewhat inspiring nonetheless. Thanks for the link.
