Where are you living next year penguin. Dorm? Off campus? If you are in the dorms if you live in the duren or san jac. itll be pretty hard to pull anytype of participation. mainly ppl are pretty quite in their rooms since its private bath. if you hit any other ones its hit and miss. I know the quad well and the quad has weekly lans but sc is never a priority

Jester West basement has a computer lab where you can fire up SC from a USB stick.
The basement also has a lounge area where you guys can set up laptops and play over the UT network. The PCL (library) also has a computer lab.

Many possibilities if you can get a big group together..

Yeah that's the problem, getting the group together. With the thousands of people who go to UT though, you think I'd be able to find some 20 people at least who (will) play SC2 haha.

Thanks for the heads up on places to check out though.

Do administrators or whoever get mad if groups use these places much? Would we have to tell someone we're gonna use it if we set up a LAN tourney or something?

The lab locations other than Jester West basement does not officially allow gaming. However, if done quietly, you guys won't be bothered. Part of the agreement you sign when logging onto the Utexas network is that the network won't be abused. Some sys. admins consider gaming abuse. However, this past week, a system admin got arrested at UT due to getting caught downloading kiddie porn. So abuse away I guess...

Getting enough people for Lans once SC2 arrives is no problem at all. I got like 20 people for the SC1 Lan this semester. You just focus on the paperwork to start an organization.

Alright thanks a lot, that definitely helps me out. Any real penalties if we get caught besides a stern talking? I doubt it somehow. And it seems like these LAN parties have gone on multiple times so I don't see it being a huge issue.

The lan parties are essentially with people and their own laptops and not the lab's computers. I am a business student and me and a group of friends played in the Millenium Business school lab. Our SC usb program was blacklisted. We found a newer version of SC on the USB but decided not to use it because the next step was getting our UTEID banned from the lab.

I actually go to UT right now. I'm about to start my third year here, and also my third year of staying in Dobie. I've just gotten back into playing SC by getting a beta key for SC2, and I'm working my way up through the bronze ladder, haha.

So really I'm not very good, but I'm enthusiastic about meeting more people around campus who play. I'll be a part of any on-campus club which emphasizes e-sports in general and especially StarCraft you might be able to put together.

I plan on making an official UT SC2 group, and maybe even team if the CSL stuff kicks off for SC2 as well.

I attend UT at the moment, going into my third year. What's your major going to be? If engineering, you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a few casual Starcraft gamers. I'm trying to build up a reputable amount of skill, but still cracking at it in a busy schedule so it'll take some time. Nonetheless, I'd be happy to help build up a Starcraft community and meet folks who want to play! If you want I can PM you my e-mail address and you can contact me when you want to get stuff together. I have a lot of experience working with various university offices and dealing with the bureaucracy of getting an organization started, but I think it's best just to find a casual group without registering with the university. Maybe after you find 12 folks it'd be worthwhile to invest the time to be official with the university.

...and of course, welcome to UT Austin. Hook 'em!

Hey, I go to UT.

I'm a senior right now but I am taking an extra year because I have several majors. I've played SC for about 8 years but haven't really played since SC2 came out.

I was around a B/B+ level terran when I was playing a lot. I say this not to brag but as evidence that I was not just "kinda" into SC

Been playing HON (heroes of newerth) a lot recently, and haven't played SC2. I'll buy it when it comes out no doubt but I don't have much interest in playing the beta. Anyways, if something does come of this or you guys arrange a LAN or whatever, let me know, I'd be interested in meeting other people at UT.

Hey, I don't actually go to UT.

But I live in austin and i study classical guitar directly under the professor of classical guitar at UT.
I was like C/C- on sc and play SC2 Beta quite a bit. If what your planning isn't strictly 'UT Students' only I'd love to be a part of it.

Also, on another note, if you needed some austin type music or whatever for your music intro's i've got a recording studio and a band and we could easily give you something for free
