While riding a service shuttle for work, I noticed on the streets that there's a bunch of people walking. I remembered that every Thursday of the Holy Week, there's a special event that we usually do, The Gift Walk.

Every Holy Week in the Philippines there is much ritual and attention to the life of Christ. Unfortunately most of this attention is in the area of his suffering and the penance that Catholics should endure in order to ensure their forgiveness. One activity that achieves this is the Alay Lakad (Gift Walk). This year I chose to experience Alay Lakad rather than observe it so I walked with millions of Filipinos on their pilgrimage to Antipolo Philippines culminating in a 3:00am Mass….and then….to walk back home.

As my friend Ricky, who used to participate in the Alay Lakad as a Catholic before his salvation told me, the majority of the millions who are participating in the Alay Lakad have no true understanding of what they are doing. In their mind the act of making the walk, attending mass, and returning cleanses them of their cumulative sins from the previous year. Each walker will “make a wish” or choose a special prayer they would like God to answer. If they are able to complete the walk and attend the mass, God will also answer this prayer.

Many groups and individuals are praying and working hard to share the message of freedom in Christ to the millions of devout who do not understand their faith. God did many great things last night. Nothing is too great for The Lord of Heaven and Earth. Continue to pray for the Philippines.

Will definitely include this in my prayers. Sounds like a fantastic opportunity to spread the word and stress that we're saved "not by works" but by grace. It's funny how sometimes we become so accustomed to ritual that we forget the real reason we do the stuff we do. Happy Good Friday in advance to you and your family!

...you play an intelligent game like SC but believe in religion?

Science is religion, cold and unforgiving as it is. I'm afraid you're wasting your time.

Yes, you should pray to science instead of The Lord. Only then future earthquakes will skip the Philippines.

Only if you believe in hell.

believing in that which does not exist will not make it a physical reality when the time comes to confront it. It might exist in your mind whilst you live, and torture you as you'd imagine hell would, but only so long as you do not have to face it.

in short no, not even if he believes in hell will he face it after death.

That goes both ways. If hell exists, it will exist regardless of whether one believes in it or not.
Soli Deo gloria.

Trust TL to take an innocent thread and have all these douchebags who feel it's their duty to inform people of their own atheistic beliefs and how they are irrefutably true. Give it a break, please. Every thread that mentions God doesn't need some jackass to come in and say GOD DONT EXIST LOLZ. Now, we haven't had that happen entirely in this thread, not yet, but it's probably coming, and we certainly see it in any other religious thread.

I'm an atheist and it gives us a bad name when you think it's cool to flaunt your atheism by being an asshole. Don't shit up other people's threads for no reason other than to let everyone know how enlightened you are. Just because someone is religious doesn't make them stupider than you etc. Many religious people, regardless of whether or not their faith is justified, are kinder or better human beings from a non-religious viewpoint. It also goes the other way, but that's how the world works.

I know, I know, you're a real cool realist existentialist, you know what matters and what doesn't. You know morality is dead, and God doesn't exist. But why do you think it's so important to let others know that's how you feel if you really feel that way. In short, stfu. Why are you even posting?

If someone made a blog about how they swam across a river in hopes that the spirit of Charlie Brown may grant them an eternal blessing to talk to lawn gnomes, then you might react in a similar fashion.

To you, its not that abnormal. To others, its mind-boggling.

Well, I used to be a believer of that. Religion is significantly not the reason why I am doing that though. I don't care about religion(but dude, believe me I'm not an atheist either). Rather I enjoy long walks~

so stop talking about religion in my post please

I missed that too. But there's an alternative route from Marikina to Antipolo... we usually are accompanied by lots of groups carrying their group flag when we do that
