Why are newcomers to Teamliquid always getting trashed by high post counters? Is it because of the influx of newbies joining because of SC2? Why can't I freely express my opinions without getting flamed by someone else who thinks I'm wrong? Is it because I'm a forum newbie and others with 5000+ posts are always right?

To be honest, after browsing the forums for quite a bit, I've yet to see any difference in the quality of posts between any random forum newbie and many 5k+ posters. Take for example Meeple, who's pretty much the biggest useless spammer on this site. So what if he has like 8000 posts? None of them are useful at all. Charlie Murphy as well is just a troll, and everyone knows it too. But everyone takes it and says "Oh, it's okay. He can troll because he has 10k+ posts".

But why can't I do the same with just 100 posts? What makes me any different? Why can't I give my honest opinion without someone jumping and bashing me for being a forum newbie? It's hard to climb up the ladder to get into the "high post count veteran" rankings without flying under the radar. It's quite a rough life down here.

Aside from a slight bit of post count and name color bias, Teamliquid truly is a great site that I'm proud to be a part of. Here's to hoping that TL gets bigger as SC2 kicks in!

Charliemurphy actually contributes some too, even though generally you cant tell whether his posts are him being dumb or him trolling by pretending to be dumb
i only judge people by their post count in the sc2 forum, you'll notice that most of the whiney little shits who go "ITS JUST BETA DONT CHANGE A THING EVERYTHING IS PERFECT BAWWWW" are all low post users

There are plenty of low post count people that are considered great posters. Look at MDT, he has less than 300 posts I believe and is widely considered one of the best thread creators in all of TL.

Short answer: same as in life, you get respect for the amount of time and effort you put in. If you last a while and get to a high post count you will get respect. If you don't necessarily have a high post count but your posts are top notch you will also get respect.

Most of it is because they have contributed to the forums so they have some leniency. Yah they troll aswell and sometimes get temp banned but they have some quality posts but they have done things for tl

Protip: flood the LR threads, and I don't mean flaming players you consider bad, just the normal "PLLAAAAGGGGGUUUUEE" or "GEEEEEEEEEEGEEEEEEEE" stuff. Soon you'll have 1k+ post, then start chiming in on every thread in general, broodwar and, if you have a key, SC2 boards. Just post your opinion, be it useless or pointless, just don't flame. I wouldn't touch the strategy board if I were you though... waaaaaaaaaaaay too dangerous out there. Then you'll have about 5k+ post.

rinse, dry, repeat.

There are only a few of these though, and he has a star next to his name. However, most of the times, low post counters are pretty disregarded and treated like complete shit.

newbie needs to learn his place

In all honesty all of us (well, some of us) used to be just like you-new posters with tiny post counts and always feeling threatened by people with tens of thousands of posts. It's not that we generally like people with high post counts, it's just that a lot of these people with high post counts are often heavily involved in the community, and so they've played games with people, met up with them, etc. A lot of us streamers have high post counts, but people tend to listen to us because we're providing (okay, not me) a valuable service to the community on our own expense of time. Similarly, admins help keep the site full clean of trash, and writers write really well done articles, liquipedia entires, arranging tournaments and stuff, etc. People contribute and are respected for it. Of course, a lot of them do tend to troll, but they've contributed and "earned" the right to do some softcore trolling. I bet if I like for instance started calling you a bunch of expletives that I would get ban hammered.

You afaik haven't actually contributed anything to the community. So you haven't really "earned" that right. Like for instance there's people with low post counts that have given a computer program or whatnot to the community so they have a lot of respect.

I bet if you started a tournament you could probably get trolling rights too. But don't take my word for it because I"m not an admin -_-

Not treated like complete shit, just treated with less leniency. People with less post counts generally have contributed less and hence get less leeway, as they should. The only way to escape this is to either contribute consistently for a long period of time (like most of the forum vets) or contribute massively in few posts (like MDT, and like you said: very hard).

Everyone started at 0 though so we're no different.

I think what he's saying though, is that he is not trolling, but is getting trolled/flamed pretty hard by high-post-count posters. This doesn't do TL any good if all the high-post-count posters are scaring away new members.

P.S: oshi TA's coming better switch to cellphone mode :/

A lot of people already said most of it, but basically here's my look at it:

TL is a community. To be functional it needs to be civil. (Think battlenet forums) Ergo there can't be a lot of people trolling/spamming, so if the site admins smell a troll they'll ban him (Not if it's a confirmed her, though because... Well..) just to keep the amount of trolls on the forum low.
However some trolling is quite fun to watch every now and then, so it's allowed for creative trolls and contributors to do a bit of trolling (Fanatacist was practically a contributor by his trolling alone (That man deserved a star)) as long as it is creative and mild.
If you don't contribute, you don't get to troll, because next to noone likes to see nobodies trolling long-therm friends.

I don't really see people make a big deal about post count. I also have a hard time believing anybody has flamed you for your opinions purely because you have a low post count. Even if they did, that's your opportunity to defend yourself and gain more e-respect and more posts.

You make it seem like it's hard to post 10,000 non-bannable posts, rofl, guess what, it's not.
