Okay, my best friend is looking to upgrade his comp for SC2, to play on low-mid settings. He is not looking to buy a completely new computer, just upgrade the parts that need upgrading for as cheap as he can (he's in college).
So far he has ordered 2 more GB of RAM as he felt that would greatly improve his overall computer performance - mostly asking about his graphics card and processor now.

His processor looks okay based on FragKrag's thread, but his graphics card will probably need an upgrade. I'm looking for you guys to suggest the best price: performance out there to run SC2 at low-mid settings (preferably mid, but low is acceptable if it means a large difference in price).
edit: If you want info about the motherboard/PSU/other parts, I'll see what I can do and try to find out ASAP. These specs are just the ones from his SC2 beta profile.

is the graphic card the agp or the pci-e variation?

I'd actually tell you to wait for the official reccomended specs before deciding for the GFX-card, everything else looks fine from my POV though. (guessing "system memory" is his RAM)

I have a key which I don't use. brood war is enough for me as I play so rarely these days..
Not going to give it away tho becouse I don't wan't people to leave brood war haha :D

Ok I'm gonna need some more info first poke.
1) your friends home address
2) strength of home security at his house
3) times and dates you friend will be away from home(unrelated to #1 and #2)
4) height and weight of friend

He has no key, just feels like upgrading his 4 year old comp because it feels too slow (RAM he hopes will solve this) and then prepare for running SC2.

Apparently SC2 is very GPU intensive so getting him a new graphics card with atleast 256MB of RAM will be enough. My ATI HD 2600XT plays on High settings just fine.

Tell him to get a new monitor...
I would become so annoyed working on a 1024x768 screen. He will see the light once he has a 20+" monitor with huge resolution.

ill burrow this blog a bit and ask if this computer will be able to carry sc2 on low settings:
AMD athlon 64 3500+ 2.2 ghz
2 GB ram
Radeon X1950 Pro 512 MB (PCIe)
windows xp
to op: GeForce 6150 LE is definitely going to be a problem.

If i got a SC2 beta key, i'd stay playing broodwar, but i'd just quit sudden attack. So I won't be leaving broodwar 
And to play on low-mid settings, it seems like all he'd need to upgrade from this point is his GFX card. Honestly almost anything will do.

That will run it easily. Low settings are like WC3.
