So I just turned 16 a few days ago. I'm looking to get my drivers license because...well frankly, I really do need one. I live in Oregon and I'm taking it at a place where of the 6 people I've talked to, only 1 hasn't passed their first time. Now I really want to pass my first try because Oregon has a stupid law where if you're under 16, you have to wait 1 month after a failure.

The point is, do you guys have any advice for me? Sorry if this isn't blog appropriate by the way. Thanks in advance!

....People fail Driver's License tests there? I went with 40 people to take my driver's license test the day I turned 16 and not one person failed. The test for us was all common sense and some mild math (stopping distances/reaction time). Anyways, GL man you should be able to ace it.

I wouldn't worry about it too much as long as you've driven enough hours to be proficient.

The only thing that killed me were 'traffic checks' -_-

  • # Check mirrors before braking.
  • # Check cross streets before passing.
  • # Check signal lights and signs.
  • # Keep eyes "moving".

Even though I did these things, if they're not obvious to the tester, they'll mark off points, so slightly exaggerate your defensive driving techniques but don't overdo it :<

edit: I'm from Cali so I don't know how different it is :3

Don't get stuck with the asian lady..

THERES ALWAYS ONE

its like autofail..

Other than that just look up what they grade u on adn as long as your not a shitty driver you'll do fine

A big thing is make sure you fully stop at stop signs.. and don't accelerate too fast.

It depends on where you took the test. Frankly, the passing rate is inversely proportional to the number of traffic accidents.

Here in the frozen norths of europe, getting passed is waaay harder, and you have to be 18, no kids allowed on the roads here.

Most of driving test has to do with who you get as your instructor.

As for mine, the first thing the instructor (some chilled out old dude) said when he came in was "I was in your shoes once, I'm not going to fail you, just relax and you'll be fine." Pretty lucky I didn't get some dick who would fail me if I made a single mistake, but what you need to do is check the mirrors, be aware of your surroundings, and all the important stuff. I mean, tbh it's all common sense.

When you turn your head to check for cars, turns, etc, make sure you make a huge motion with your head.

A bit confusing, but what I am saying is don't just glance, but make an emphasis that you are looking by making your head turning huge. (if that makes sense)

Also, the reason why I didn't pass my first time was because I was inpatient. So when you take your test, just wait till ALL the cars are gone. Then make your turn. Because all it takes is just one car to fuck you up!

Good luck!

I'm planning to take my drivers license soon and just that was one of the first things my dad told me lol. Taking the license is not about if you can drive or not.

Dude, this is what driver's ed is for. Honestly, if you don't crash the car, don't do a drive by during the test and always follow the rules of the road, you should be fine. Of course, you seem like the type of person who might think it's funnier to show the cop how to use the e-brake while turning to prove that you're not drunk during the test...

its really easy.

i worried about it also back when i did it and ended up passing the written and driving portions my first tries.

just take the practice tests you can find all over the internet for free, they helped me a lot for the written part, and also just get your parents to let you drive now and then until you are comfortable enough to take the driving portion.

I turned on the windshield wipers when the instructor told me to turn on the headlights

then I almost ran over someone as I left the parking lot >_>

passed anyway though, so it doesn't really matter

Ask all your friends where the easiest DMV to go to is. In my case, I went to a DMV 15 minutes away but everyone said it was easy.

There are two reasons why choosing the "easier" DMV is a better choice.
1. Confidence boost. Knowing you are going to have a higher chance of passing = confidence. Confidence is really important when driving. If you are a nervous wreck, it will show in your driving especially if you aren't that great of a driver already.
2. The test might actually be in fact easier. Traffic, the course they take you through and the instructors can be more lax at one area.

Another tip is to sign up for your test at around 9ish in the morning or so. With this, traffic will be at a minimum and you won't have to worry as much about that.

Yeah I made sure to go the easiest DMV haha. Like I said, everyone I've talked to except one person has passed their first time there. And unfortunately, I'm already scheduled at 3:20 which isn't terrible right?

7.don't forget to untie your seat belt if you have to open the door or something

Just check mirrors and keep both hands on wheel.
Why would you ever choose failure, when success is an option.

wow, your policies are so much more lax.

if we fail, we need to wait 2 months. and the age is 17, not 16. and we need it just as much (to put it into context, there are about 6 farms within ten minutes, one of them grows grass).

Everybody I know passed it the first time in Canada. Just drive slowly and do all the proper checks. It's useful to find a marking rubric and go over it again and again.

mirror
signal
mirror
blindspot
change lane

you first check mirror to see if it's possible to change lanes
then you signal to indicate your desire to change lanes
check mirror to see if it's possible to change lanes
check blind spot to see if it's safe to change lanes

That's how I learned it 6 years ago at least
