After a traumatic experience that left me without internet for days and having to deal with around 10 malware, I now turn to TL for help.

Basically, I dled a bunch of doujin music but they're in .ogg format, which means I can't play them on my ipod touch without further hacking it. So, anyone has a good, free, safe .ogg to .mp3 converter?

Thanks in advance.

Edit: Weird, I couldn't post this blog when I had a [R] tag in the title. Weiiiiirdddddd.

I don't use it myself (I use OS X), but I remember hearing good things about Blaze Media Pro. However, it's a 15 day trial so unless you can get a full version otherwise *ahem*... I guess you'll have to wait.
And hooray for palindromic post count.

I just found this. I don't know if it works well or not, but I can't really tell the difference in audio quality past ~192kbps. Would be able to tell you if it's better than others, other than based on UI and capabilities.

I think foobar should do it. I never tried converting stuff on foobar but it has the capability, and I dont think you need anything high end.

Pretty much all encoders will do it, but it's a really bad idea. lossy to lossy compression will create artifacts and is just generally not recommended.

But yeah... foobar is great for audio, and mediacoder is an all-round general purpose audio and video converter if you ever need one.

doujin is just a term describing the circumstances in which the works are produced, meaning that it is made by amateurs and usually not widely sold (outside comiket or doujin-selling websites) or known

cool another doujin music fan

While you're at it, don't forget to email Apple and ask when they are supporting Ogg / Vorbis. Inexcusable these days.

I have one on the way. I did a lot of research, but unfortunately it seems like you can never do enough T.T

Lots of people complaining it randomly just dies when transferring files. I'm just hoping these people are just a bunch of idiots and that I will be fine with mine... Sigh... If iPod Classics supported ogg I wouldn't be worrying about this. As it is, no one has even developed an alternate firmware for iPod Classic.

Get a mp3 player that supports more then 2 formats imo. iPod sucks. Look at Cowon iAudio products. They support pretty much everything. You're losing a ton of sound quality when you recompress music like that. Not to mention mp3 is terrible sounding.

Doujin is a group of people with similar interests that create content. It could be original or based off of something. Often times it's as good as any "professional" creation with a lot of money backing it.

FLAC support really has no business being on a portable player. It's a perk, I guess, but I'd rather development be spent on useful features, such as codec support for other free lossy formats. Or more video formats... Can never get enough video formats.

I've been really pleased with my Cowon D2. Supports Ogg, great battery life, and good for small videos if you get bored too.

I know it isnt a media player as such but my Nokia N95 iv had since launch 4 years ago has never broke down on me once and plays a variety of media formats. also has a 3.5mm jack out so it can double as a music player. although mp3s are known for poor quality, using high quality VBR or 256+ - 320kbs CBR has really good quality.
