Poll: D9 or Avatar (Vote): District-9 (Vote): Avatar
I hear some people saying D9 was better or worse and the reverse for Avatar, I think both are good but I think D9 is better because how much it pulled off due to a tight budget.
Why film do you think guys was better?

district 9 was great but sorry, not even close lol
horrible idea behind " tight budget = more likable movie"

I liked the story of D9 better, but I didn't see Avatar in 3D so that may have affected my decision.

District 9. Neither are as good as they're made out to be though, but at least I enjoyed District 9.

District 9 had a way better story (and the little kid was so cute <3)

wow im surprised its so close atm, i thought avatar would crush this. (voted for avatar obv)

district 9 for something 'fresh'

District 9 needed to do more with it.. The story didn't go anywhere and the ending was easy to guess.

Nah you just have to wait bit for the avatar bandwagon to arrive. It's a great movie, but really overhyped in epic proportions.
(I really enjoyed it regardless)

Whereas Avatar contained thrilling and unexpected plot twists and a ending that you'd never see coming.

District 9 by far. Nothing against Avatar, I really enjoyed it, but District 9's story was more my style (and I'd say the acting was better).

youre hopeless, you dont even realize its a bigger bandwagon to shit on avatar then to express admiration of any kind
every friend of yours drowning in his own casual mindless existence liked it, why would you?
no.
you are not special

they kind of both ended the same?
i think your username here defines your personality pretty well. Kind of kills any argument

District 9 for me, Avatar's execution was basically paint-by-numbers and I guess I'm less impressed by eye-candy than most.
|
They cannot be compared. They were my two favorite movies of 2009 TBH. I think they both brought something unique to the table.
D9 showed just how far you can go with a low budget and unknown actors. The original storyline and overall idea were fantastic and very enjoyable.
Avatar was a polar opposite. Endless budgets, famous actors, and an unoriginal plot still came together in an outstanding movie.
To me both movies could not be more opposite in their approach to making an entertaining film, but they both were winners in my eyes.
|
Husky, agreed 100%, my exact idea was "not comparable"
and avatar didnt even go all out with the actors really

Wrong, it was a great movie.

D9 was very good and original. However, I just didn't like the main character. He was a dick.
Avatar's visuals (and sounds) blew my brains and made up for any of the shitty acting and writing.
I voted for Avatar.

avatar in 3d > d9 > avatar not in 3d

Avatar was boring after the first 10 minutes imo. Voted d9

yea first 10 minutes of district 9 were really entertaining
i think you didnt watch at least 1 of them if not both. There has to be 1 person like that haha. There always is someone voicing his opinion on something he didnt see. I choose you!
edit: to further back this up - you didnt even see avatars in action after 10 minutes haha. I doubt anyone would say he was bored at the point where they JUST started introducing them( guy runs out of the building in his new body)
So exposed daaaamn

damn you must be hard to entertain. I'm assuming you're one of those pseudo-intellectuals who found the plot too predictable and derivative. Good for you. I prefer to think of avatar as a retelling of a timeless story in an amazing new medium.
D9 was also awesome, tough poll.

D9 was fucking epic-rape. Avatar: very good of course, without a doubt. But D9 is my friend.
|
holy shit tie o.O
go AVATAR :D
|
Really? I thought D9 was pretty garbage... Avatar on the other hand may have been the best movie I've ever seen, imo
|
I'm aware that I'm in the minority when saying this, but District 9 was a pretty terrible movie. I deeply regretted having paid to see it. Avatar on the other hand, while not the "BEST MOVIE EVAH" that some claim it to be, was at least somewhat enjoyable to watch, mostly due to the 3d novelty factor.
|
D9 is a great movie (and I loved the documentary style of narration), but it didnt make me jizz in my pants like Avatar did.

versus beautifully crafted, original, creative mockumentary. easy choice imo >_<

but the fact that he was flawed made him much more "real"/more of a tragic hero to me
|
Avatar, D9 was interesting at first but it turned into a generic action movie towards the end. Of course I'm not saying that Avatar's story was groundbreaking (far from it) but hey, in 3d it's unlike anything you've seen before.
|
FOOKIN' D9
actually i voted avatar cuz imax 3d > all
lol tie, gogogo

District 9 blew me away. I watch more movies than anyone I know, but don't manage to see many popular movies. It was one of my favorite movies of the year. Avatar was average. If they had filmed it with simple CGI, I would have had no interest. I'm not a nerdy "hater"; it was average.
|
I loved both of them.
My thoughts on D9 + Show Spoiler +About D9's main character being a dick, I think that it showed how he was a flawed character which made the movie a little bit more "real". You can't honestly imagine some random guy who is turning into a fucking beetle alien to remain calm and do the most heroic things. He does save the shuttle at the end which shows how he has turned into the reluctant hero or whatever.
My thoughts on Avatar + Show Spoiler +I thought it was one of the most visually beautiful movies of all time. The plot was a bit cheesy. I got a little bored when I watched it the second time at all the scenes which weren't pandora-nature/flying/action scenes. The movie had a simple plot but it was well done.
I can't vote for one of the two since I loved both of them so much. I think Avatar, D9, Up, Moon, The Hurt Locker, The Hangover, Star Trek, and <I CANT THINK OF ANY OTHERS BUT I KNOW I'M MISSING A BUNCH OF MOVIES> were the best movies this year.

There should be an option for neither.

d9 was shitty, avatar was not as shitty
