I'd reinstall/reconfigure the USB drivers on the PC and troubleshoot everything you possibly can on the PC. If you have any other ways to test the PC's connection I would do that too. (run a long cable and see if hard wiring is fine or if it's the network card on the PC) definitely sounds like a wireless driver issue though, my guess is the PC has older drivers with the USB that worked fine with the old router but not now... Find your model of wireless USB and either DL newest drivers or if you still have the CD use that. edit: the wireless encryption shouldn't be an issue just put in the key and if it says it connects it should be fine.

are the operating systems different on the laptop and PC? There's been hell of alot of problems with 64 bit vista desktop pc's and getting wireless to work with those usb sticks. and yes the man above me speaks the truth usb sticks for networking have been an absolute chore since they came out a couple years ago. I never used to recommend them when I worked at Best Buy, mainly because they would just be back in line with 20 problems a week later.

If your PC is the server, then ghermination is right, you have to connect it to the router with the ethernet port. If you're just trying to connect your PC to your home network with a wireless adapter usb, then try reinstalling the drivers on your PC. Also, I use an external usb adapter with a desktop and it works great. It never drops the connection or limits broadband speed. I considered buying a PCI card, but usb adapters are more convenient and I don't see any drawbacks to using them.

Also make sure that you're set to automatically obtain IP address/DNS. Go to Network Connections, right click your adapter, go to IPv4 and click Properties. Finally, if your former Linksys router was a WRT54GL or one of the earlier versions of WRT54G you should switch back asap and flash DD-WRT/Tomato
