It's not really a problem, and I think I'm reading too much into it, but here goes. When applying for PwC's internship, they want a non-school e-mail address. Currently, my non-school e-mail address is kind of lame/endearing. + Show Spoiler [I warned you] + p.s.iloveyue [at] gmail [dot] com Should I make a boring e-mail for their application (something stupid like YueJiang25@gmail.com) or just use my main e-mail and see what happens? :/   | ||

If they ask for non-school it is so they can contact you once you leave school, which is good obv. | ||

EDIT: The reason they asked for non-school was because some school e-mails don't send everything through...but I really have a sneaking suspicion they want to see what type of e-mail address you have T_T | ||

I just hope you don't intend on making that your permanent career. Working for Big Four, especially PwC, sucks. EDIT: Oh, I just saw that you were just applying, and not that you got it already. Well, it's good to get the internship, as it buffs your resume. But I guess you'll see what I'm talking about once you're in. EDIT2: They are also asking for a non-school e-mail so they can run a check on it. Do you have any other e-mail accounts that you have previously used, at all? If so, I would suggest doing a thorough Google check on that account to make sure it's not linked to anything crazy crazy, and then giving that in. If they find out you created a new e-mail, they might think you're trying to hide something. | ||

Besides things from when I was really young (think pokemon, ssj3, etc.....ok so maybe not that bad), I only use the one I listed  | ||

I'm working for EY and I approve this message. j/k Actually it really depends on whether you like audit (or advisory, or tax or whatever you're planning to apply for). The work load is huge, be ready to work 60 hours a week during peak period. But it's pretty interesting when you get a hold of it, and start to learn new things. I would say working for Big4 provides a pretty good working environment and training. You can always leave after couple of years and it will look pretty neat on your resume as you apply for another job. | ||

Depending on where you're from, pay may be terrible. For example, if you start out at 55k in NYC, you're making almost as much as teachers and policemen. Well, I don't know exactly, but it aint much. When you're working 60 hours a week, this is comes out to less than technicians working 40 hours a week at hospitals who only had to get a 2-year degree from a community college. Also depending on where you work, corporate culture can suck pretty bad too. Constant sucking up, cutthroat attitudes, work attitude leading to massive stress, etc. Some people won't do well with this unless they have a certain level of emotional maturity. Then, while some people might like the fact that they have to constantly learn about stuff, but the CPA world is a never-ending educational hole. Even now legislation is changing rules that most CPAs are just getting a hang off from Sarbanes-Oxley. This may be fun for some, as the work is "technically never the same" but can be difficult for those who just want to learn a profession and coast through the rest of their life. There are more, but I'll try to stop discouraging you. Don't get me wrong, it's a GREAT opportunity if this is what you really want to do. I just hope you don't make the same mistake that I did, idolizing this one career, celebrating like it was the last day of my life once hired by a Big Four, working a few months, and finding out "WTF AM I DOING?" IMHO, it's a great train to ride to finding your final career path. CPA + few years experience in a Big Four = Great chance of landing a great job somewhere else, making more money, working less hours, taking less liability, having more control over your own workplace. | ||

Did you ask your ISP? They often offer these kind of emails at a small monthly fee... because it's not free, you can often have what you need. | ||

depends on what division you're working for. i have happier thoughts about overdosing on ambien than i do about working accounting for the rest of my life (especially tax/auditing), but some people love it. the job market's great and the pay is nice. whatever you do, at least the hours will be better than investment banking. and yeah, for an internship like this (or any business-related job/internship), just make the generic email. keeps it more professional ;p | ||
