Yea, tons of people show up for midnight showings of Twilight. It must be a great series!

Books aren't the same as movies though.

Maybe now you can move onto games that haven't been exactly the same for the last three sequels. no.. cod mw2 isn't terrible. In fact it sold more copies at 12am the opening night than any other game in the history of games.
That still doesn't make the game good. Removing dedicated servers from a PC game, that is one of the dumbest thing I've seen. Especially from something as big as Call of Duty.
And no, you cannot play FPS games on a console seriously.

I never liked call of duty or any FPS for that matter, but when I was playing with my friends last night, most of the drunk off their ass it was good times. It's great game, I just personally dont like FPS' since I'm so bad at it and I don't want to take time to get good at them.

She broke your disc so I broke her LOL -- COD MW2 is a great game in my opinion.. goodluck getting it fixed

Because clearly what people think of a game before it comes out has any indication of how good it is? They haven't played the game yet, FFS so how does their opinion relate to it being a good game?
I personally don't think MW2 is as terrible as ghermination says (the very obvious favoritism toward consoles annoys me, but doesn't detract from the actual content provided by the game), but this line of reasoning is pretty flawed.

A game can be "good" or "bad" for other reasons than how much players like or dislike it, just like any other art. Tolkien is still better writing than Harry Potter fanfiction. The Mona Lisa is better art than a 5 year old's finger painting. Schindler's List is still a better movie than Transformers. Just because people can form opinions about something doesn't mean you can't form objective criteria about it too.
Starcraft, on the whole, is a difficult game to find flaws in, as most of the things people believe detract from the game arguably also add to the game in different ways. By contrast, there are obvious features of Modern Warfare 2 that can be criticized. The lack of mod tools, for example, in no way adds to the the user's experience. Being able to play mods is strictly an improvement on not being able to play mods.

If you don't like MW2 then you are a terrorist....pretty simple really. You are either with us or you are with the terrorists. (Got it first night and played non stop to beat it).

lol
People wouldn't show up in the same way for Twilight if it cost 60$ per movie.
It was 5 million copies purchased and in hand THE HOUR the game came out. I'm sorry.. but that means something when everyone paid 60$ or more for a game that has leveled the reviews with straight 9's or 10's.
Yeah, you got me.. not everything where millions of people show up the minute they can means it is "good" Y'GOT ME lol.. but I'm gonna go ahead and say in this case, it DOES mean something. So citing times or areas where the same occurrence happened and it was generally accepted as a bad event isn't disproving my point, only showing it isn't a perfect science, as if we needed that.
@Fantacist: People's opinions can be wrong I'm sorry. An 11 year old game where millions upon millions of copies were sold and it has fueled the most intense progaming scene the world has known can hardly be called "a bad game." Sorry.. it could be personally for a person sure, but as far as the game is concerned the numbers speak louder than some random person.

why did you need your mom to plug a cord in for you?

WoW has 10 mil subscribers and it does suck now. About CoD: i played with 2, i deleted the 4 after a few mins and never tried any other of them....nothing special really.

I've must've burned nearly a whole day of game time online.

Your mom sucks and you should clearly get a new mom. Srsly though, quit whinin' and show some respect!
That game is really cool though. I played it for about 10 minutes and jizzed my pants, then I had to excuse myself from the room.

Yes, it does mean something. It means people were hyped about the game, thought the advertising and preview material for it were promising, and trusted the reviews about it. That still says nothing about the actual content of what's in the box they paid $60 for.
Given that COD has been a successful franchise since its inception, strong hype and good reviews would be present regardless of how good or bad the next installment was. They could put a blank CD in the box, and it still would have sold well in the first hour, because no one would know the difference (hyperbole, but hopefully my point comes across).
Movies are an entirely different issue. When you pay $10 for a movie ticket, you're usually seeing the movie almost immediately. Because of the lag time between purchasing a game and playing it, a bad game that's well hyped could sell a lot of copies on the first night, before the widespread knowledge that the game sucks got out.

Yup. You can randomly claim that prerelease reviews, midnight sales, post release reviews and general mass opinion all are some random occurrence that happen to coincide with each other in agreement if you like.
I'ma go ahead and stop playing hypothetical number games with a guy(s) who is ignoring reality. Thx!

I'm AGREEING with you that MW2 is not bad. It's just your original post cited the sole statistic of number of copies sold on opening night. That statistic is meaningless. All the other things in your above post do lead to the conclusion that MW2 is good. But first-night sales are hogwash.
