So here it is, my 3rd week (of many to come) trying to lose weight.
First lets get into what I've done this week: Swimming 6x45 minutes (total 7,5km ~4,6 miles)
And what I'm gonna do next week: Swimming 6x50 minutes
This week has actually been HUGE for me. Thursday I orderd a pizza, but I didn't eat it. I actually felt guilty for thinking about eating it, gave it to a friend instead. This was really big for me, since I've never felt guilty about eating anything earlier. I've also gotten more aware of calories, after one swimming session I was REALLY hungry so I went into the local store and picked up some recovery drink, but then I checked the calories and it had alot of it, so I found a smoothie with less calories.
The second big thing was the swimming, walking was a bit on the boring side for my taste but swimming I actually like. And since I managed to get my technique down yesterday it's even better. Also I'm burning more calories then if I'd be walking.
Third big thing is that I feel how much more energy I have now. I'm actually starting to look forward to my swimming sessions and if I wait to long to go swimming I get restless. I also sleep alot better. Earlier I could stay awake until 3am and get up at 6am, now I rarely stay up past 11pm.
So until next week, gl hf and practise hard for TSL!

That sounds great! Keep up the hard work and soon you will notice huge improvements. It can help mentally to set clear goals to work towards as well.
Why not come join us at the Weight Loss/Gain initiative thread in the general forum? There are lots of likeminded individuals there would would be very happy to help you
Just on the nutritional front, the more you know, there better placed for success you will be. I really believe that 90% of results come from your nutrition.
Great Job!

Nicely done!
Keep up the swimming. Btw, as long as you keep off refined sugar in any form (och kolhydrater med högt GI) you should be fine when it comes to cravings. Just a tip
|
Great job! That's the best part of an exercise routine--you actually start to look forward to it. Keep it up!

imo, after working out that hard i doubt a slice of pizza would do any harm.. in fact, i think you deserve it! Good job and keep it up.

Nah, that attitude doesn't get you anywhere. That's the main reason so many people who work out don't loose weight, because they "allow" themselves stuff all the time. Also healthy food is good food! I don't even like pizza that much anymore, I feel gross just thinking about all the chemicals in the pizza sauce and carbs and fat and glutamate.
Keep like one day a week where you can eat some junk food and be strict the other days. Works quite well imo
|
I have actually given myself one piece of junkfood a month, so yea I'm doing my best. It can be hard though. Funny thing is that when I get a craving for lets say candy, this happend to me just this week, the bathouse (is that word correct?) that I go to is right next to a store, so I said "ok I'll go swim and then get some candy. atleast I can feel like I deserve it" but after I had my swim I didnt feel like eating candy anymore.
generally I dont get as hungry when I work out

Well I have to admit you are improving in your excersizing. 6x45 swimming sessions is a huge improvement over a few hours walking and cleaning up after a party, haha.
Have you lost any weight? What was your starting weight 3 weeks ago, and weight now?

good job man! keep up the good work

Feels good, doesn't it? One day you will meet someone you used to know and just seeing the shock on their face will be such an ego boost it will give you the motivation to work out even more.

Just out of curiosity, how on earth did you manage to go 120 kg +?
Didn't you ever think about the fact that you were gaining weight and might need to loose it?
Like I said, no accusations just curious

Yeah I'm really looking forward to something like that, I mean my main goal is to lose weight for myself cause I don't feel well in this body but dropping jaws is never a bad thing

It's a perfectly viable question and there's a story to it so here's what happend: When I was 19 I was a liiiitle bit overweight, say 10kg, I'm 197cm tall so it didnt show that much. I finished highschool and at the same time my sporting career was over (I wasn't good enough to play in the highest leagues basically, and there were no lower league teams around). I didn't go right into studying again so for about 1½ I just sat infront of the computer at home. I was enjoying life with nukezone, irc and my gf.
After 1½ years I got a job at a callcenter and for the first few months I liked it but after that I got sick of it (like REALLY sick) but now I had my own place. Anyway so I was getting depressed and pushed people away, my g/f broke up with me because of that and that didnt help the depression. This was after about 2 years from quitting sports and I was still eating like if I was training 2 hours a day (which I did before this). That in combination with having a job where I didn't move and not liking the job (you eat MUUCH more when you're depressed) made my weight skyrocket. I have these tears on my stoumach from gaining weight so fast (you often see it in pregnant women) and they're most likely permanent.
Anyway thats the story about how I got FAT. just wanted to mention that I'm not blaming the job I had back then, or my ex gf. I blame myself for letting myself go.
oh and your other question: I wasn't reflecting over it at first. then I tried losing weight but because I didn't have the motivation for it it never worked.
|
Ah, that's interesting. What sport were you engaged in during high school ?
Well, you're fucking tall so 120 kg is of course relative depending on your height. That explains why you didn't look bigger in some pic I saw of you.
Anyways, I think you'll do just fine with the weight loss. Just keep carbs lower (pasta, rice, potatos, bread etc), eat vegetables and meat/fish/chicken/tuna etc and you will loose weight.
The good thing about loosing weight, is that you can trust science, as long as you hold up your end of the bargain ie soldering through it with discipline. You will loose weight if you eat less than you burn.
|
I was playing bandy, no not innebanndy (aka. floorball in english). I'm still involved in it as a speaker and a coach
And yeah I consider myself to be trusting science more then diets and other things people do cause they don't want to put any effort into it. Cause I belive that, when I've lost the weight I want, I'll look back at the hard work I've put in and think a time or two about the size of that bag of candy I'm bringing home.

That's right man. That hard work will also pay off in dividends in future endeavours where you know that you have the power to do pretty much anything you like about your situation.

After reading this thread i suddenly got really thirsty to drink julmust

The key in permanently going from unhealthy to healthy is the moment you realize you might not want the junk food or other drug/poisens anymore. This scares people because they realize that to take the no junkfood/drugs/poisen path means their lives will have to change. All their relationships will change because unhealthy habits are major parts of societies. You can't have it both ways. Either you choose the healthy route regardless of the consequences because you value your health and spirit or you relegate to be a drone of society and talk yourself into thinking it's not really that important that I not poisen myself. The path towards enlightenment is the first choice. It's impossible with the second choice because you have given up your sovereignty to society.

A funny thing that I've experienced once I became more aware of all the stuff they put in food and how food affects you is that I'm kinda grossed out by alot of fast food nowadays. For instance those days when I have a pizza (like once a week) I go for a high quality pizza and not your cheapest local pizzeria.
I actually prefer salmon and spinache/broccoli over kebab most days. An exception would be when I'm boozing

Hey man, good luck losing weight.
Don't get discouraged if it happens slowly - you need to change your lifestyle, so the results stick in the long term.
I know what it's like being a big guy. I am one.
I'm currently 191 cm and 105 kg (maybe a bit less right now). I was 116 this time last year.
And, honestly, the only change I've made to my diet is to eat healthier. I still eat fast-food a couple of times a week though. I haven't exercised much at all.
Working on cardio is great and all, but if you were to work on bulking up, you could increase your metabolism dramatically. I think you should try to add a weightlifting session once or twice a week. That would help you lose weight in the long term, and improve your strength at the same time. And it is an easy way to track improvements.
A lot of weight loss is caused by proper nutrition though. Or at least improving your nutrition. So you're definitely on the right track.

nice julmust! just keep on swimming you'll shed kilos in no time flat. If you ever feel like candy again eat a piece of sweet fruit(I prefer apples and tangerines). I find that when I have cravings like that fruit always gives me the sugar I want without all the bad things that come with candy.

agreed, eating fast food or candy on an empty stomach is pretty unsatisfying and gross GW julmust! :D

I've been following your progress for these three weeks, but this is the first time i've decided to post. I think that this is a great thing that you're doing, and if you make it the final goal, it'll be pretty amazing that you managed to control yourself so well.
So keep it up,
