ME vs TEAM LIQUID MEMBERS Internet Chess Match
Official Game Thread:
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=103784
This post is only to clarify the rules of our Chess Match, as well as give a chance to sign-up for anyone who might have missed previous thread:
http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?topic_id=103622
1) RULES:
> I'm playing with white pieces. > You have 24 hours to vote for each of your moves. > I'll update my move 24 hours after voting closes. > You are voting by posting in this thread "I vote... /move/". > Please use Long Algebraic notation to avoid confusion. > Voting always closes at midnight (0.00 GMT, 9.00 AM KST). > I'll count the votes immediately after deadline. > Members who'll be late WON'T be taken in account. > After counting votes, I'll publish info, as follows: - Voting results. - Current position. - Last move played. - Updated list of moves. - Exact time of next deadline. > No chess engines or outside help, please.
2) ADDITIONAL INFO:
> Rules above were fixed, mainly to speed up the event. > If you still think something is wrong with rules, PM me. > "Game Thread" will be posted on my next blog entry. > You are free to discuss your moves, but please don't use the official thread for this, otherwise I may accidentally "maphack" your plans. Use PM's or some free forum to keep your discussion safe. > ToN wisely suggested to post "Game Thread" in Sports & Games section. I'll do as he said.

now this... great idea. someone make a turn based board game from a real-time game engine.
|
How about a one on one match with you, or anyone else? Time control - max 5 mins. for a game on a playchess server. Go?

Fixed :-)

Is there a limit on rating? Im a 2251 CM, if thats allowed, id love to join in.
For 1.e4 I vote we opt for a classical caro-kann, I have quite a few neat tricks in all the major variations and would feel very confident in using that. Alternatively, if we do really want something action packed, I do have blitz notes on the sicilian dragon (classical, yugoslav and variants).
For 1.d4 I would like to play a queen's indian or nimzo-indian (yes, im a boring guy obviously). Ive been coached by GM Larry Christiansen and GM Joel Benjamin in both, just because the structures are a lot of fun. Again, for the...blood inclined, we could go with a semi-slav. Ive studied up bigtime on the variations favored by both GM Anand and GM Kramnik.
anyway, hope im not too late.

You are welcome! But, this is voting chess, so not always your suggestions will be played (unless, of course, you can convince your teammates to play what you like to).

Oh btw, we might just use someone's blog for discussion, would be way easier than constantly pming everyone.

Good idea.
EDIT: I just took on One Page Memory on Playchess. He is tough, I lost 2 games badly and 1 narrowly.

could we play "standard"? im a chess newbie and this could actually be a good way to learn the basics. but if you guys wanna "4 pool", then go ahead, haha
|
Chess 4Pool goes like that:
1. e4 e5 2. Bc4 Nc6 3. Qh5 Nf6 4. Qxf7 mate
I guarantee you I'll send my scouting SCV on time.

Jfazz wants to do some super lame 1 fact FE into 3 fact 3 base double armory flash build
I want to do 2 hat lurker rush with double hydra hidden scout for quick lurker drop and early probe harass with mannor pylons and gas steal

I'll join. I haven't played chess in years though, I never learned notation or anything. Still, will be a bit of fun.
|
lol at 4 pool just about everyone at yahoochess opens that way hahaha
|
I run into that or 1. e4 e5 2. Qh5 (Nc6 2. Bc4 g6) on chess.com's live blitz when playing Black fairly frequently. Its a bit ridiculous.

When someone does that to you, all you have to do is exploit the weakness they created in their position! It's like they threw one of their four workers away at the stop.
|
Yeah, I know how to deal with it fairly well, it's just surprising that people expect others not to be able to handle it.

Then again, it is a team melee.

I'll be watching with interest!
Just don't cannon cheese.

I was asking Yury Shulman for opening recommendations once, and he said "there are very few opening I will not recommend to my students... the Dragon is one of them" ;d The game is complex in terms of calculation but simple in terms of strategy for white. I play sveshnikov which IMO is even crazier than the dragon, although I wouldn't recommend it. We would need like 400 apm

I should learn a bit about playing the Black side of Sicilians, as I've avoided playing 1. ... c5 for a lack of theory knowledge. It seems like my kind of aggressive, tactically loaded opening (I'm a King's Gambiteer at heart), but it seems that there's some unintuitive element to it that I can't get a handle on that makes playing Sicilians feel unnatural the rare time I do try it.
|
I would like to join Team TL.
I will vote for Petrov's Defense or Alekhine's Defense against the king's pawn game and the Polish Defense against the queen's pawn game. sorry, I mostly play low econ

Why won't you just join Team 2?

am I the only who wants to play the french?

I would like to join team TL. ^^

So do we discuss the game openly while Vekzel has access to our discussion?
|
On October 16 2009 01:48 Pawsom wrote: So do we discuss the game openly while Vekzel has access to our discussion? good point. i guess we'll just have to put discussion in a separate post and go by the honor rule.

Nonono, one of you should use some thread from his old blog entry and then PM you all with adress. There is 0.01% chance I'll find it, even if I would bother to search.

It would be pretty easy to find since posts in the forum are sorted by last post date, unless they conduct their discussions entirely by edit or something <_<
|
Then the only solution is some other site :-(
But since we are going to trust each other about chess engines, I'd say opening another topic somewhere else and assuming I won't look at it should be enough.

You could discuss in spoilers, and OP just has to honor the rule that he won't read any spoilers in the relevant thread. Good luck to both sides~

Seriously guys, we are playing sicilian or some variation of it (if white is gay and opens D4 we can do schvenvenenegnengnigan)
Dont be lameass and do E5, sicilian is the best
