However, it recently came up where it wasn't taken as the "casual gaming" sense of the word. I ended up trying to explain it in an extremely awkward conversation... Not fun. I feel as though everyone is looking at me, even though I'm practically alone in a downtown office. My face feels like it isn't my own, and the way my very physical insides react make me feel dirty, guilty, afraid, and unworthy. You can academize the word "rape" all you want. But it will never, ever stop meaning the same thing to those who have ever seen, heard, or experienced it, or loved someone who has. It doesn't make me mad at you, I won't get up in arms to stop everyone from ever using it again, but when I hear it... I guess I just assume the person saying it has never taken the time or the heart to really, truly, understand what they are saying to one in four women and I-don't-know-how-many men. I get it, I really do... but, as of yet, that still hasn't even come close to making it ok. | ||
