It's impossible for me to feel connected to/feel any obligation to an organization that is such a tightly regulated oligarchy, and seems to hell bent to adhere to archaic beliefs that have no place in modern society especially given the church's rapid expansion in 3rd world countries where some of these of these stances mean life or death for thousands of impoverished people. Until I see any significant moves forward I'll just remain an Easter/Christmas Catholic as we call ourselves. And I think if any person realistically believes in papal infallibility they need to get themselves checked. Thousands of years have proven that those holding the title of Pontiff were and still are capable of some of the most heinous deeds known to mankind.

I remember something about Mother Theresa saying that suffering was good and other ridiculous stuff. PS- people who liked this episode should watch Bill Maher's 'Religulous'.

But how can all those people interviewed not see the glaring contradiction. If the Vatican is such a filthy pit of lies and abuse, and you believe that they have God's truth, then Christianity is corrupt and immoral. If you DONT believe they have God's truth, then you cant know what God's teachings are since it has always been funneled through the Vatican. And i'm sure any brief search of history on google will come up with a plethora of material on shitty church policies. Yes I do realize that there are many Christians on the board, and no I don't mean to spark a flame war, but i do want to stir discussion =p. And all religion threads on TL seem to eventually travel the same path. ---- BTW: bill maher's Religulous concludes in a odd note. + Show Spoiler + He spends the whole mockumentary poking at the fanatics, but never really coming down on them hard and impaling them on their own contradictions. And then at the end he gives this giant lecture on how religion would end the world. While I agree with most of his concluding points, I don't think he did a good job getting people there. It made him look like a bit of a crackpot conspiracy theorist beacuse of that.

I remember some special or documentary from a nun that worked under mother Theresa saying that she was not really even helping people at all because of these ridiculous 'laws' that the church follows. She went on further about how Mother Theresa was a cruel shrew basically and was only trying to collect money for the church. Do you remember what this documentary was called? I've seen one called "Hell's Angel," but it didn't have anything from a fellow nun.

That being said, there have been great Theologians to come out of Christianity. St. Thomas Aquinas, Francisco De Vitoria & The School of Salamanca, etc., but in general Christianity and all organized religion is a pox on humanity. Always has been, always will be. As for myself, I'm a Deist. Bullshit by the way is a great show.
