I've gotten totally addicted by SSBM recently! The reason why you haven't seen me at these forums that much recently (even tho many would say that is a positive thing) is that I'm spamming at the smash forums instead lol. Been playing everyday with good players and when I'm home I find myself playing singleplayer. I never was this addicted to even Starcraft! Seriously Starcraft is the best fucking game ever but if it's one game that comes even close it's Super Smash Brothers Melee.
I'll play this until I get bored and/or SC2 comes out but until then I gonna try get good at this totally awesome game.
Yea I was addicted to SSBM before I got into SC. Loved it (pretty high skill ceiling, there was lot of competition too; ie. lots of tournaments to go to wherever you lived).
Used to be involved a lot with the competetive community in london. It was a great game growing up with the metagame and the ppl around me but eventually (like starcraft) it is so optimised and the "APM" requirements are so high that it is pretty beyond me now haha.
I could imagine how much it must suck for a newcomer to come into the scene to play with a bunch of seasoned veterans you would just get your ass handed to you all day like you do in starcraft
Heh SSBM has some pretty crazy apm requirements as far as fighters go.. that is a major ceiling which i cant break which probably stopped me getting better. I just didnt have the mechanical ability to pull off a lot of the more technical moves consistently anymore. But gl2u. Fortunately it probably only takes 3-6 months to catch up with the community if you practise hard compared to starcraft which probably takes a lot longer

I live in Gothenburg, we can meet if you attend to any smash event anytime soon ^^
Meh =( I hate Uppsala, so few smash players there. Only active people here are me, Echoist and Hack :/ But it's nice to see new people joining the smash scene Perhaps we can meet in a tourney sometime in the future.
interesting. ive actually met silent spectre in person. he is in fact, really silent. doesn't really talk. i had the honor of playing practice matches against him for an hour straight, losing all of them, even against his "off-characters". it was interesting until i got sick of losing. they were all pretty much one-sided losses.

Actually I've found that it's more "nerds" in Smash than in Starcraft. Would you agree with that? Actually I thought it was the opposite since when you play consoles you sit right next to the one you're playing and you can talk etc.
From my memory SSBM players in london (well, the good ones) were generally pretty eccentric and nerdy haha.
And yeah i know exactly how you feel in one sided games. I play fuzzyness every now and then and he can 4stock me with almost any matchup because his mechanics are just so strong and his matchup knowledge is proficient enough to just deck me constantly haha You know you are up vs someone good when you feel you have just zero control of your own character

Is this the game that TT1 has on his stream with a bunch of guys screaming behind it. This scares the hell outta me when my volume is too high and I don't expect it.

Have you ever been to any tournies Zoler?
No, I've only played 1 month so far. But I have gotten to know quite a lot of semigood players like Ying for example I really wanted to go to SVAR7 but it was only 35 spots. :S I will totally go to every tourney that I can

It looks quite messy btw. I can hardly tell what's happening
It's for Gamecube. Yeah the videos are kinda bad quality, but I hope you can see what's happening in the first video with SilentSpectre? One guy kicking another and he flies of the stage? Not that hard
i have been playing competitive SSBM for about 5 years- and main M2 i am very close friends with the best doc in the nation, and play with him very often. love this game.
the only thing that i have to say about this game is this: THIS GAME IS AMAZING!

YOU ARE NOT A NERD JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE A SILENT PERSON

i used to play this w/ a couple friends all the time, although i was never very competitive. Now however, we play brawl more than ssbm which sucks horribly imo compared to melee, but they dont seem to think so
Melee fucking rules. I think I'm going to be smashing competitively soon, even though I'm a noob. SS is my fav player he's so flashy and shit even though it costs him games. MELEE FOR LIFE!

because youre silent doesnt mean youre a nerd but means ure afraid of something, maybe shyness, things didnt go well when young, girls are seen as a supernatural being, parties are the worst place to go to, you dont own a phone, you love venting it out over the internet or IM, you talk to yourself, you do no sports, you're ur best friend and think youre unique in the world, you love your privacy, space and time with yourself, the thought of having to stablish a conversation with someone strikes you, you run out of things to say and everything you say has to be a question, who knows.
Maybe thats why i never became good enough to place high up in the london rankings. I never picked and stayed with a main
Probably my best atm is falco (because once you get his basics down it is just smooth sailing from there) but i play shiek, fox, marth all pretty equally haha
God SSBM takes so much of your time. I have 2 controllers whose analog sticks are like completely worn down at the top due to violent fast falling. Great game, but it died in my area when Brawl came out, boooo.
It's a really fun/competitive game so full support. :D
Yeah brawl really killed the game off, esp given how crap brawl turned out :x
If sc2 does what brawl did to melee i will cry
I'm on my 4th controller hehe. But im keeping good condition of this one so it will remain as my playing controller for a while. Some of my friends hve played so much the top of their analog stick is all smooth and all their buttons have no spring and they are just worn off, you cant see the letters anymore, and their shoulder buttons no longer click they just go in haha Doesn't matter as long as the analog stick is centered and sprung properly if you look after the foam bit on the inside
Getting four-stocked by Tekzero's Mewtwo was a lesson in how cruel SSBM can be.
In order to avoid massive rapes at smashfests and tournaments, I main Jigglypuff because I believe she doesn't need the high hand speed necessary to play fox or falco and her game is mostly about positioning.
Still can't shorthop double laser, I guess I have slow hands that will never get up to speed
Most players i know who do SHDL consistently (like prof pro) use the analog stick to do the jumps. He can do them continuously backwards and like, double shine in between each one >_>
Either that or you play claw but that is really difficult
I use the analog stick to do it but even though i can do them on command i dont have enough control to space it properly and do them continuously whilst moving backwards. Fox is god tier enough without it anyway lol
