whenever you feel angry just do something productive (practice a musical instrument, go running, etc.) while telling yourself "I won't be upset by this anymore"

the last part is key, because otherwise you won't get over it

push yourself harder with different exercise. bike on hilly routes, run stairs.
batting cage can be good too.

you can actually try to stay calm... to calm you down. listen to calm music etc etc.

some studies show, throwing things, screaming, or "release anger" actually raise your adrenaline and makes you angrier in the end.

I actually wanted to start a meditation routine in college but the first step requires catharsis. During catharsis you let out all your pent up emotions, and I know if I do I'm gonna fucking scream like hell. And I can't do that here.

Funny you all mention practicing an instrument because I am at a music conservatory.

The problem is I have a shitload of anger that isn't directed towards anything. It's just there. For example, sometimes I'll look at the elevator I'm going down in and stare at the blinking numbers and feel like screaming something like this: + Show Spoiler +
"FUCK YOU FUCKING ELEVATOR AND YOUR FUCKING FLOOR NUMBERS GTFO PIECE OF FUCKING SHIT."


Or sometimes I just want to scream for no reason at all.

Like there's no reason behind this shit...I almost never let go though so it's all pent up.

I joined a martial arts club for that exact reason and it helped a lot

Meditation also helped me but that is kind of part of the whole martial arts thing so maybe you can get that all in one package depending on what your school has.

Talk about it with friends/family. Best way to resolve most issues I find is to talk about them.

Also try to understand why/what caused you to become angry and try to rationalize if your behaviour is worth it/appropriate.

To understand is to begin the path to empathy. Of course, you should, and I have no doubt that you will, strive to be a better, stronger person but to understand why, will help you ultimately forgive him.

I too have anger problems.

Just today I was driving to work on my normal route. I stopped on the last right turn at a red light. I waited for the left turn cars to pass. And noticed a 40+ year old man standing there in his hawaiin shirt, shorts, sunglasses, and headphones (not paying attention). After the cars finished I looked around 1 last time and proceeded to turn on the red (which is legal). Mid turn the guy steps out in front of me (Green light and crosswalk went on) and sticks his arms out and yells out like "HEY IM WALKIN HERE" or some shit. I begin into a furious anger and yelling back at him telling his stupid ass to pay attention so now my life got flipped, turned upside down and Id like to take a minute just sit right there Ill tell you how I became the prince of a town called bel-air. In west philadelfia born and raised. On the playground where I spent most of my days Chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool And all shooting some b-ball outside of the school When a couple of guys said were up in no good Started making trouble in my neighbourhood I got in one little fight and my mom got scared And said youre moving with your aunte and uncle in bel-air I whistled for a cab and when it came near the Licensplate said fresh and had a dice in the mirror If anything I could say that this cab was rare But I thought now forget it, yo home to bel-air I pulled up to a house about seven or eight And I yelled to the cabby yo, home smell you later Looked at my kingdom I was finally there To settle my throne as the prince of bel-air

to deal with anger I just let it out and then forget about it. I think the trick is to just forget it. Thinking about something else or doing something else can help you forget.

Don't hit, curse and throw tantrums that does not help you in fact does the opposite, doing things like that tends to reinforce it for later use in other words just makes your angrier person in general. If you want to do that "Let fury have the hour, anger can be power" go do something constructive.

Things that work to control and curb anger is

Doing things that are incompatible with anger such as petting a puppy, helping out people, watching/listening to comedy, "kissing" your lover, masturbating. This pushes out angry feelings

Relaxation , relaxing muscles, listening to calming music, taking deep breathes what it does is it diminishes the arousal off of being angry

Delay things like counting to 10 slowly works the same as above

Distraction take your mind off what is making you angry (jogging works the same way as most people minds go into a somewhat meditative state during a long run.)
I don't use AIM/MSN/ etc stop asking...

Learn to meditate. Just 15 minutes of proper meditation can relieve all the stresses of an entire day. Learning to consciously release these built up tensions during your meditation will engage the very faculties called upon when you try to control or direct your anger. The reason your anger is pent up inside you is because you are holding on to it in some way or another, even if you aren't meaning to. So let go of it. Meditation is the art of 'letting go', clearing your mind of every thought and image, and then resting in this condition. With just moderate success you will see the benefits in your life. It will become easier to respond to emotions before they break to the surface. You will begin to see ways in which you've stood in your own way, and little by little you can learn to let go and begin healing.
