Back before VODs, all Starcraft followers had were replays and battle reports. Nowadays, some news writers at TL still write detailed BRs with pictures.

Do you read detailed battle reports? I'm interested to hear what other people do, because I've never read a BR. I'll just watch the VOD instead.

Pony Express has a few BRs once in a while by Pangshai, they're nice to read. Recap news also feature them sometimes.

Some BRs that are well written, exciting and contains nice pictures is sometimes more fun then the actual vod

never read them ever since youtube, despite the fact that I wrote them myself for a while -_-

now that I think about it I would never write BRs for games that I had the time to rip.

I used to read battle reports, but with zatic and baezzi uploading the videos the next day, or even right after the games are played on youtube, there really is no point in reading them anymore.

But if someone takes the time to actually write it out and take nice screenshots and stuff, I will definitely read them.

Before Replays and the Internet became really powerful there was a website dedicated to battle reporting. It's still around although hardly anybody writes reports anymore. Still a strong community on the non .php forum though. If you want some good reads just search for your favorite SC player or just find the "gold" reports and enjoy some excellent writing.

I probably read more BRs than I watch VODs (usually when I watch VODs it's to learn stuff; BRs are more entertaining for me).

Probably is related to the fact I don't like watching movies and I do like reading books.

If I spoil myself I will almost always read BRs if I wait long enough. Also, if the BR is written by Mensrea or Arbiter[Frolix] I would still read it even if I had seen the game several times. I remember the glory days of Mensrea and Waxangel with Nazgul on foreign news. T_T

Edit: That may sound like I don't appreciate the news team now but that's simply not true. I just sort of miss the days of Battle Reports XD! Err, when battle reports were more prominent.

No. Battle reports are only worth reading if they're funny. I don't care to read how much someone wet themself when Jaedong microed his mutas, or how many hyperbolic adjectives they can think of to describe every move in the game.

Sometimes I'll read a hype post about a particular player though. I like to know the drama and the life of the player, but I think the play by play commentary and someone telling me how nervous a player looked (often when they don't look nervous at all) is not appreciated. Time would be better spent giving the overall impression of many games that most people wouldn't watch (like say everything before the ro8).

For longer games it can be nicer than watching the whole thing, especially in a drawn out TvT. It's also interesting to read a BR on a game I have seen or am very familiar with, much in the same way that people write articles about the major sports (i.e. baseball, hockey) the day after after a game is played.
