Wow that's really scary. I know nothing about these two conditions but I'm nearly certain I've seen television ads here in the US for a newish drug for UC. Hopefully whatever happens you can learn to manage it. Good luck and keep up updated!

Sigh, I know I'm going to get in trouble for this...

Is it just me, or am I the only one who finds feeling overly sympathetic for Plexa somewhat impossible. Perhaps it's because I haven't been on TL.net for a very long time and haven't witnessed his, and with 15k posts I can only assume it's significant, contribution to the site's prestige, but give me a break. Consider his story without the TL.net aspect:

* Rich privileged kid who receives a VERY good education that millions in Western Countries cannot hope to receive.
* Is clearly very academically intelligent and well educated, which only makes me think of him more of a nob.
* And we're meant to feel sorry for him because he doesn't go see a Doctor when the fact that painfully shitting too many times a day is something that should probably be checked out.

I dunno. Maybe if you had a real disease like Aids or Cancer or Kidney stones or Sudden Death Syndrome, then perhaps yeah, I could muster at least some sympathy, but as it is it just looks like the sort of thing you'd see on a 6:30 pm Current Affairs program.

I suppose my point is that we've all got problems. I've got butt problems myself (less debilitating, more hilarious) and my brother has the same, but far far worse, and I count ourselves lucky. I count myself fortunate that the worst I can lame on about is a sinus that occasionally sprouts a cyst at the top of my arsecrack (polynidal sinus for you medical types) that likes to spit pus and blood and making sitting down at a certain angle very uncomfortable (also, born without a sense of smell. Never had one, probably never will). Because no matter how bad you think shit is for you, odds are 50% of the other people on this planet (and considering your upbringing it's a fuckload bigger then 50%) have it a bazillion times worse.

If you feel that strongly about total egalitarianism, sell your possessions and donate the money to starving children in Africa. It will largely be squandered/misused and of course even if it does feed a few people it will only ever so slightly delay their suffering given that they live in an essentially lawless, backwards society where personal advancement is for all practical purposes impossible.

Just because someone was, by total accident of birth, born to people who presumably worked hard and created wealth doesn't mean it's not unfortunate when said people suffer hardships. This "count yourself lucky" or "others have it worse off" attitude is disgusting; its central premise is that you should feel guilty for your success or the success of others. In a proper economic system, wealth is created not stolen or magically bestowed upon you.

I believe you have misunderstood me somewhat.

My point isn't that IBS doesn't suck, and that being a rich kid should, by some miracle, make it suck less somehow. My point is that I find it difficult to muster sympathy for him because he's clearly had a very sweet life right up to getting IBS, and that from what I can see it's going to be rather bearable from now on, so suck it up. We've all got troubles, and his aren't particularly worth feeling sympathetic for. Neither are mine and neither are plenty of other people's.

Being rich doesn't make you happy.
I have no clue whether plexa's life was nice so far or not but I can garantuee you one thing: Being good at school and having wealthy parents does not make you happy by itself.

If you weren't new to the site you'd realize that Plexa is beloved to TL and we would ship money to his house if it cured him of a disease.

Welcome to team liquid.

I've been shitting like a bird for the past two years, where most of the stuff that goes in also comes out about half an hour later, watery and half-digested (as I was told at the lab). I also have pancreas divisum and suffered horrible jaundice, cramps and the entire shebang for two weeks in March this year; I was literally preparing to die since everything (including the bio-marker C19-9) pointed towards pancreatic cancer. Also lost about 18 pounds in two weeks at the hospital.
It was a month of suffering I wish not even my enemies.
players do games, press mens do their things. and fans do make good cheers.

Thanks for the post.

I'm not going to lie, my family was rich, or at least upper middle class. However, my dad lost over $600000 to my mother in a painful divorce and all his investment property. My dad is currently 77 years old, he no longer works, and has no source of income. This divorce happened in 2003 so basically he's been powering what's left of his savings into my education (and my brother, who is in his final year this year). So coming out the other side of that school has left my family no better off that middle class. Money isn't an infinite resource and my dads income sits at around 11k a year (from his pension). As such, I'm paying for my own education at university and what not using various scholarships. My brother won't be so lucky, and he will be like everyone else on a student loan. My dad is also old, and the house is getting old as well. So yea, we're not that well off anymore.

I'm not expecting sympathy, although I do appreciate it. I shared the story in hopes people won't be as stupid as me and get things checked out earlier. And yea, it was stupid to put it off but like I said it really only became a severe problem around 6 weeks ago, and thats when I saw my GP asap.

Think what you want of me, but I'm glad you made this post.

IBS doesn't suck that much afaik. It's annoying, but not too much past that. IBS, btw, is irritable bowel syndrome. I most likely have some form of IBD - Inflammatory Bowel Disease and now that is a problem.

Ouch Crohn's is the other major kind of IBD iirc? What's your treatment plan like?
