My dad was on a work trip to Spain and he got his laptop bag robbed... it was too heavy for the thief so while he was being chased, he threw it on the ground and ran away. Fail. You're right, it happens in very crowded places popular with tourists. | ||

I don't think France is such a safe place, you won't get killed in a gunfight here, but if you're a tourist, your money ain't safe. Also, people are taking as much from tourists as they can. If they notice you have no clue about french, the bills won't be the same... When I come back from work, I use the metro line that runs past the Eiffel tower, very crowded with tourists. Every day I see backpacks open, cameras / ipods in an open purse etc. I guess it's a big temptation for all the african / "eastern european" people coming to Paris to make cash. | ||

I'm not a violent person, but if you calculate your honor and lost things against the value of your life, in certain situations it can be worth it. To count on the police to get your things back from pickpockets is just plain stupid. Also, I wasn't being a dick, I just stated that you come off as a coward. Be more self conscious and stand for it instead of making lame jokes and trying to act defensive, unrelated to this story. That last remark, haha? If someone steals something very precious to you, I believe being embarassed is last thing you'd worry about. | ||
