Week 1: Day 1

I could do a grand total of seven push ups on the initial test. Suppose that's a good enough reason to begin this, heh. Anyways, I know it'd be better off if I just lifted weights, but I figure if there's a laid out plan, I'm more likely to actually stick to it.

I'm 6'1", 165 lbs and I have a body build similar to a starving African child (Scrawny everywhere except for a bit of a belly).

I completed the first day with barely making the max at 5. At least it's a starting point eh? Wish me luck.

Uh, what? 5 Push ups? Sorry but that doesnt seem quite right for someone that is 6'1" and 165 lbs.

That's exactly what I was going for but I couldn't find a way to put it as eloquently as you did. Thank you.

I don't know if you've ever looked at it, but here's day 1.

Either that, or you severely overestimate my upper body strength.

OP, i am slightly under 6'1 and i was 160 lb and in the same boat as you my junior year of high school. Like, maybe 5 pushups.

4 Months later I could do 120 at a time. I dunno what this plan says to do, but my way was just by doing pushups all day every day, with a days break every week or 2.

Also I(and many other people) disagree that you are necessarily better off by lifting weights. They are just different. It depends on why you are doing it. If it's for normal functions... pushups can be better. They use more of your body, in a way that's more like what you would do irl. And, if you know what you are doing you can even get up to really high bench press equivalents just by doing bodyweight exercises.

But if you want incontrol-like freak lifting, you definitely have to lift weights. And if you want to build muscle mass, lifting weights is where it's at.

Disclaimer: i totally know most of this second-hand.

Interesting, where did you find that chart? I just tried doing as many as I could and wow, push ups are a lot harder than I remember, lol. I'm also about 165 but only 5'11".

Googling pushups got me to onehundredpushups.com where the chart is at, that was easy.

You do it three days a week, five sets with a varied amount of reps that slowly increase as you keep doing them. It's pretty much common sense, but not something I would spend time figuring out.

I don't think lifting weights helps you do pushups. At least it had no effect for me.

I started doing this when the original 100 pushups thread first came out. I'm now able to do ten less than I used to!
Anyways, good luck.

I did this at one point, and I was able to do 60 pushups consecutively, but then the routine got impossible...

I tried this program but started out with bad form. I was able to increase my pushup count a lot though, and when I eventually got the hang of proper form I still had good progress.

The thing is to keep in mind the proper pushup, and if you're sore from a few without reaching your numerical goal, at least the soreness lets you know that you're still working your body.

When I had improper form, I could do more but I didn't feel like I was getting anything out of it.

Also, pushups are probably one of the best exercises to do. They work your arms and parts of your abs and keep up your cardio. I heard even some parts of the military ditched situps for just more pushups since situps hurt your back.

Good luck! I'm shorter than you but I'm pretty scrawny too. Pushups will help a lot, and don't forget to eat well.

hmm, i'm 5 foot 11 inches and weigh 59kg. (about 130-140 lbs i think?) I can do 50 push ups. I have been forcing myself to do 100+ every day since 3 weeks ago. When i started i could only do about 12-15 push ups lol.

It's pretty much just like trying to ladder up iccup.

anyway, push ups build up your pec/triceps pretty fast when your doing this routine.

I used to be able to do 50 push ups easy and now I find that I can barely do 25. In the past week I've been doing lots of sit ups and push ups.

I don't know about this plan, I good way to get better is just to practice. For me no plan has ever competed with the "do lots of push ups" plan.

So yeah if you want to simplify it just do as many push ups as you can in one set a few times a day. No big need for numbers.

yea, usualy they need 48h to rest, at the least, so doing it only all two days, is better o,o
that's how I do it, just do something else the other day, like arms on that day, then abs/legs, then arms, abs/legs, arms..... etc;)

This can be a fun game to do! I remember when I was 15 I made a bet with a friend. The first to make 100 pushups, for 20€ lol.
Took me like 3-4 months I think, and now I have man boobs because I kept doing pushups/exercise during high school.

I think you should try to reach the point where you can make 3 perfect 15 pushup series with 60 seconds in between each series. Once your body is used to that, keep making these 3 15 series everyday. If you make small series like this your will develop your muscle size A LOT but won't gain much strenght compared to super series. After you see some progresses in your trainning and feel comfortable with these 15 series, try to go for something more heavy. Time to test your limits, make as many as you can in a row. After that rest for some minutes and try to make the 3 15 series after. Keep doing that you will have monster arms and tits fast.

Good luck

If you get bored try free-weights. They aren't massively expensive, bit more interesting to use and they tend to utilise more muscle groups.

Tried the test, got 50 (60kg, 180cm). Looks fun to do, but I 'll stop again anyway when I start going back to the gym after the holidays and a long long hiatus.
What it has over using gym equipment is exercising more muscles at the same time because you have to balance your body etc while doing it, so it's good stuff. =)

Yeah, the most exercise I've gotten in the past year is running around in my underwear for a university finals celebration. So, this is just a first step while I still have high metabolism.

5 pushups, and you want to train yourself for 100? This isn't as easy as you think and your body of "a starving African child" won't change that much.

Maybe it will be better for you to work with weights and eat a lot?

Eh, if I hit 100 great. If not, I'm not going to stress myself out over it. I'll probably end up repeating days and such while working up to it. As far as a body image thing, I'm pretty fine with the way I look. It's just more about feeling stronger.
