About the same. If we compare Ro16 and Ro8 the amount of Koreans is EXACTLY the same like in 2018. I love a good foreigner thrashing and Dark did not disappoint. Also that double spine drone rush was a kind gesture from Dark-senpai!

Blizzcon was the same, GSL vs the World was much better for foreigners this year compared to last year. Still, when you only have 2 tournaments per year that have equal numbers of Koreans and foreigners, it's hard to say anything with a high degree of confidence.

This year also saw the continued rise of Reynor who finally found success against top Koreans at the end of the year and gives substance to foreigner hopes that Serral doesn't have to be the lone pillar against Koreans moving forward.

I think the gap is still very similar to last year, but maybe slightly closing.

foreigners this word is terrible. star craft should not be so much about where you come from. it's better to just call people players.

Nah it's a fun thing left over from broodwar where we literally could not touch even the worst of the korean pros. Now we kinda have a chance most of the time if it's our best players. Uphold the segregation!!

I get the sentiment, but I don't think it's inherently a derogatory term. Given Starcraft's history as an esport, it makes sense to have separated the player bases into "South Koreans" and "everyone else" (aka foreigners). It wasn't until extremely recently in the grand scheme of things that anyone outside of Korea could be considered the best in the world or even close to it, and old habits die hard.

Plus, most people who use the term when talking about Starcraft are foreigners themselves and don't take offense to it (you're the first person I've seen take issue with it). It's more of a matter-of-fact identifier, like calling someone from Canada a Canadian.

With the state of balance and maps it's a tough call. Serral Dark and Reynor have maintained their positions at the top. The zvp state is pretty atrocious for the players, hopefully they get it to a more stable level that will allow a better player to separate himself from his opponent.
I may appear to be an emotionless sarcastic pos, but just like an onion when you pull off more and more layers you find the exact same thing everytime and you start crying

They should make all maps 8 player map size, but only 2 main bases. Then give Infestors Tactical Jump! That should do it. Haha.

Well there's IEM Katowice. IEM PyeongChang, WESG, WCG, ASUS ROG. Then there's online tournaments.

GvtW is a showmatch in the middle of Code S, ofc you wouldn't wanna show your gameplay there, you might wanna play even worse for mind game.

Nevertheless, Special, Neeb, Scarlett, Reynor etc has shorten the gap.
