because dota is for team esports what sc2 is for singleplayer esports.
- where the fps and fighting communities which are the other relevant esports are niche esports by comparison.-
because a huge amount of tl members play and follow the dota-genre scene(s).
because a lot of the tl staff is very interested in the games.
because many sc players/casters are playing these games and stream them.
because featuring a game that is in beta with not even half of it total real community and competitors being truely involved in it that gives you 100+ page finals threads in a subsection of a subsection of a site is good for business.
it has to be understood that TL is no longer merely a starcraft site, it is a site that is at the forefront of the new business and social model that is esports, and as such it needs to be open and stay in touch with its core which is the community of gamers that are passionate about seeing their favorite games turn into something bigger; and these gamers, us, don't play only starcraft.

"Starcraft progaming news . community . team". That's what TL is, it says so in the header. If you have other sources, please tell us.

My two cents: Dota 2 is an awesome spectator sport. I'd never played a match in my life but I fell in love after watching a single replay. No commentary, just the game. That's not something that's ever happened to me when watching something that is meant to be an esport. Not with Quake Live, not with LoL, and not with HoN. There's just something about Dota 2. It's a Valve game, man. It's a game where one of the top priorities, maybe the top priority from a design standpoint, is competitive balance.
Don't be surprised, then, if TL starts to aggressively highlight Dota 2 content more and more.

I was responding to "TL is no longer a starcraft site". anatem said that TL is now a general esports business website, which I don't think it is.

But I think anatem is on to something. Saying that TL is "at the forefront of the new business and social model that is esports" is maybe overstating things, but TL is certainly looking for ways to serve its userbase that don't have to do with SC2. The crossover between SC2 watchers and Dota 2 watchers is pretty sizable at the moment and I think it's going to grow immensely as the Dota 2 scene matures and the game heads towards release.

with the way Dota and LoL are getting really big on TL, could there be a chance that a new sister site be formed for them?

My two cents: MOBAs are by far the most boring games I have ever seen and there are very few esports sites that haven't made them their top priority so I'd like TL to stay a starcraft site, especially since Dota is to Starcraft like the NFL is to Chess in terms of popularity. That's just my personal opinion though.

Since they have an option to hide those streams, I don't see the issue.

Why not? Why should Team Liquid limit itself in all areas to be StarCraft. Yeah, it's StarCraft first, but communities formed through TL on other games.
To ignore them is to deny TL's community feature.

the lol board had a team that competed at a high level a bit more then a year ago. they called themselves team liquid and when iem was in china the casters used the tl thread as a source for questions beacuse of the chinese censorship on other sites. The communities are here and it would make sense for the calender to reflect it. I wouldn't be surprised to see news items written by dota or lol community members. tobi wan is god teir casting even by sc2 standards.
As illustrated by the recent incident with mlg the calender and by proxy the sidebar is a resource to team liquids community. The fact is that it services the lol and dota boards doesn't change anything about it.

I think its primarily because there are very strong sub forums for both Dota and LoL and people here enjoy playing that game as well as sc:bw/sc2

IMO, DotA and LoL shouldn't even be esports xD
Agree! Dont like moba games what so ever! I can truly say that I will never tune in to a stream showing moba games. It says "Starcraft 2 and Brood War Pro Gaming News" on the tab.. So imo it should only be sc2 and bw stuff. And like you said, if they want to show other esports as well, show the good ones! >o<''
blarhg, pisses me off when LoL gets any attention. (free to play, no skill needed to be slightly good at it = popular) I want esports to be what it was 10 yrs ago.. sad panda. I'll go be emo somewhere now!...

Its hard to argue with over 200k people on whats an esport or not.
