For those of you who don't know what EVO is, it is a huge yearly fighting game tournament held in Las Vegas. People from all over the world fly over to play in this. Kinda like the OSL of fighting games, except its done in a period of 3 days packed with a lot of hype, drama, action, trash talk, money matching, East Coast vs West Coast, and the Japanese players who ROFLRAPE everyone else every time (which some people say won't happen this year, but we'll see).

This will be the first EVO in history that is being streamed live over the internet. Dates are July 17-19 and the stream will be on all day through the tournament.

Stream Link will be available at:
http://www.evo2k.com/live/
http://www.capcom-unity.com/go/evo/live

Twitter: http://twitter.com/evo2k

On July 17th, the world’s largest and longest-running fighting game competition returns to Sin City at the Rio Resort and Casino. The heart, history, and unbelievable skills of the fighting game community will be on display as the planet’s top fighting gamers assemble from around the globe to duke it out on today’s hottest games, including Street Fighter IV, Soul Calibur IV, Marvel Vs Capcom 2, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core, Street Fighter III: Third Strike, and a special BlazBlue exhibition.

EVO 2009 World Finals will feature:

* Special appearance by Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono
* The world’s largest live Street Fighter IV competition
* Tekken 6 playable on console
* Watch all the action streaming live, for free, featuring top players and expert commentary
* The best players from around the US and the world, including Japan’s legendary champion Daigo Umehara
* The newest build of Tatsunoko Vs Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars
* First publicly playable Marvel Vs Capcom 2 for X360 and PSN
* Complete coverage from IGN Insider, recording HQ, direct-feed tournament matches available for download following the event
* And more!

Spectators can attend the event for free, and are welcome to play at one of the dozens of freeplay stations. For those who can’t make it to Vegas, EVO 2009 will also be streaming live all weekend. The live stream will run all day from July 17-19th, and feature non-stop tournament matches between top players, with live crowd audio accompanied by expert commentary to explain all the onscreen action.

There are 1,040 entrants for Street Fighter 4 alone, which means 1st place will get a little over 7k in prize money O_O

+ Show Spoiler [Marvel vs Capcom 1 Exhibition Match] +

Yes, it's true. The two greatest Marvel vs Capcom 1 players of our generation will be in the same room. How could there not be a showdown?!

Arturo aka Sabin spearheaded the EC claiming MvC1 as their game with his deadly squadron of Eddie Lee, Josh Wigfall and Justin Wong. The EC broke this game. They smashed it into a million pieces. Look up "broken" in the dictionary and there's Art and his gang holding a MvC1 board.

But wait, there is a challenger! The young upstart Magneto Maniac, bred from kaillera and ggpo. When GGPO emerged, it was Magman claiming that online play had surpassed that of arcade. That what the EC gang did was just prehistoric compared to what him and the newcomers were doing.

Now, really, could an online youngster be that good?

So Magman beat Justin, but could he beat Art?

In Vegas we'll find out!

Arturo "Sabin" Sanchez vs Magneto Maniac ft7!!

EVO has over 1 thousand entries for SFIV so schedules are tentative, but I'm hoping to do this Saturday night. I'll have MvC1 on freeplay for casuals about an hour before the event, and then Art and Magman will battle it out.

This will be on my supergun setup that can be seen here:

Winner gets bragging rights and the Gold War Machine Trophy!

This is what EVO's all about. The best vs the best.

+ Show Spoiler [OG Super Turbo Tournament] +

Start time will be Saturday @ 1pm. This may change if it interferes with HDR's start time. But for now it will be 1pm.

ules for the tourney.

$30 entry for the team.
Payout: 2nd place team gets their money back and the rest goes to the winner.
Cap of 32 teams.
3 man teams only. No ironmaning it or 2 man teams.
Must register with me before start of tourney on Saturday.
Double Elimination one game.
Normal team tourney rules. A beats A then A plays B.
You must declare your character when you enter the tourney. No character switching will be allowed.
*UPDATE*Team order will be determined before either team sits down to the cabinet.
No duplicate characters. I don't want to see O.Sagat x3 or Rog x3
*UPDATE*However I will allow same characters as long as one is old and one is new. So you can do an o.Rog and n.Rog on the same team.
Akuma is banned!
*05-22-2009****UPDATE*
We will be allowing 1 and 2 man teams. However your team will play with that handicap. You will be required to pay the full entry of $30. If you are a one man team and you lose one game that is it for you. Same for two man teams.
If I reach my cap of 32 teams I will eliminate any team with under 3 players for any full team that would like to play.

+ Show Spoiler [ Ryu vs. Ryu - Watson vs. Daigo] +

Many many years ago, Tomo Ohira ruled Southern California as the top street fighter player in the nation. He won over 100 tournaments from SF2 World Warrior to Hyper Fighting. Tomo was featured in videos and magazines the nation over.

Tomo would soon discover the intriguing world of girls, cars and deejaying. Therefore Tomo vanished from the Street Fighter Community. When this happened, it was Tomo's young friend and rival who was ready to begin his era of Street Fighter dominance. This young teen was Mike Watson.

Since then, Mike has carved his legacy in the Street Fighter world. Mike has won National Titles, been featured in Game Pro, Tips n Tricks, and the Versus Alpha Guides. Mike was a member of Team USA that travelled to Japan in the documentary Bang The Machine.

Alex "Calipower" Valle even credits Watson, saying it was Watson who who was influential in "breeding" his skills.

http://evo2k.com/?p=383#more-383

Mike has never stopped dominating. And after all these years, after all the accolades and awards, Mike still looks fondly back to his time with Tomo. The time when they battled it out in masterful Hyper Fighting Ryu mirror matches.

Daigo Umehara aka The Beast. As Kuni says, "God in form." Daigo is arguably the most famous Street Fighter player in the world. He first came to the American eye when he won the National Alpha 3 Tournament in Japan, and later cementing his legacy by defeating Alex Valle to claim the title of A3 World Champion. He is only one of two people on the planet to have won two different games at EVO in the same year (the other being John Choi).

Daigo is consistently in the Japanese SF scene. He flew from Japan to the National Gamestop SFIV Exhibition and defeated Justin Wong, Poongko and Iyo. He is an expert in Alpha 3, CvS 2, Third Strike, SFIV and everyone's favorite Old Man's Game: Super Turbo.

Daigo's Ryu in ST is godlike. In his hands, Ryu is precise and possesses the divine Ume-shoryu. All his peers recognize his skills. Daigo is truly "God in form."

Now, the question is: through all the Capcom games, which incarnation of Ryu is the strongest? It boils down to 2: Hyper Fighting Ryu or Super Turbo Ryu?

At EVO, we'll get our answer!!

In a First to 7 set, Watson will play Hyper Fighting Ryu and Daigo will play ST Ryu in a no-holds-barred Ryu master battle. This will be on Anniversary Edition. The winner gets bragging rights and the Golden Ryu Trophy.

Since schedules are all tentative with the enormous SFIV Turney, the plan is to do this Friday night. Keep your eyes peeled in the BYOC area, and prepare yourself. This is going to be a master class in Shoto.

Sure, they are very strong, but not nearly as dominant as the Koreans in Starcraft.

i'll try to update you guys as often as possible , my flight leaves tonight and i should be on the floor 9am tomorrow, i heard theres no wifi in rio, so i dont know how often i'll be able to post, but there will be the occasional 1line phone post to update, i'll try to cover things that likely won't be on the stream, like the insane money matches and non-tourney related stuff or side tourneys

I'll be at School tomorrow T_T I hope updates would be posted. <3 I'd rather read it here than SRK TBQH, but either way, its going to be hype =)

Btw, no Team Wild Card SRK yet on SFIV 5v5? Is it supposed to be a surprise?
