Which map do you like best here? Which do you like the least? Please list them as you see them, 1. Being favourite, 2. being 2nd favourite, 3. being least favourite. Also, please give atleast a brief explanation on why you like or dislike each of these maps. Thanks
(2)BattleGrounds by NastyMarine - please note the main has a backdoor blocked by neutrals, if you destroy 1 only small units can pass through, to get bigger ones through you have to kill both of them. They have 2000 hp each I believe.
(2)Two Countries by NastyMarine
(2)Geisterfahrer by noname
BattleGrounds thread where you can dl/comment map Two Country's thread Geisterfahrer's thread
These maps are in a competition for bwm's two player map of the year.
Personally, I am tied between both of Nasty's maps, I don't like geister; from playing games on it I don't like the feel or layout of the map, and I think the top half is really awkward and doesn't flow with the rest of the map.

Best ==> Worst
#2. Good map, allows diverse tactics because of the multiple routes. More flanking options, etc. Mineral wall on left/right is kinda retarded though. A bit too wide open.
#3. Nice, but to get into the base (by ground) you have to get past 3rd base, nat, then main. Middle of the ground is very vast. I may be wrong, but it looks like there are some sick angles for tanks.
#1. Allows for a lot of retarded cheese, cliffble nat, open main, etc. Cliffable other bases too. Is it me ore are there dead ends there? Nat way too far from main.

It's really really hard to tell without having played (or even watched) at least several games on them each. People's initial impressions of maps are usually wrong.

Acually I thought Two Countries had a nice balance of open/tight; the thing I didn't like about it was that it had 2 main paths, even numbered paths can lead to pathing issues, your army might divide as it goes, with good symetry you won't know which path units might take etc. I like the side mineral expo things, I thought they were nice, just think about what all they are used for, you mine it out it becomes another path, leave it in to keep enemy from having a flank, you could push over it like Nada did to YellOw on that one snow map without opening it up, and you make melee units trying to attack the expo have to go around, that means in pvz you don't have to worry about 12 cracklings raping your base as easily lol I agree with you on Geister. Cliffable nat opens up strategies which normally you wouldn't have, and you can scout these things easily, especially with the backdoor. The backdoor will work just like in hitchhiker or arkanoid, except you only have 1 to worry about. Yeah it does have a lot of paths, proxying will probably occur often on this map, but that's just more strategies, making the map have more complex gameplay without introducing anything radical.
As for reps, there are some for the maps in the map thread on broodwarmaps.net (I gave thread links above), and bwtt thing has been using geister, their website should have some reps on it.

Best = top worst = bottom #2: Nice map, plenty of expos for macro, yet lots of attack routes for micro styles. Flexible. I like it. #3: An interesting backdoor. Otherwise its just a worse version of Blitz though. #1: Looks ok for TvP. But good fucking luck playing Z, especially ZvT. (Backdoor, Impossible nat defence, cliffable, 2cm dropable...)

I'm not particularly crazy about any of the maps, but if I HAD to rate them... + Show Spoiler + #1: Two Countries (2nd Map)
#2: Geisterfahrer (3rd Map)
#3: Battlegrounds (1st Map)
I can't really offer much of an explanation right now... I guess I'm not in a mood for working hard. But that's my rating, which hopefully is enough for you. I tried to stray away from the idea of "most balanced = best", and rather just voted on the ones I'd like to play on, whether that be for fun or originality or whatever.

I like the third one best
but that's because I like ROV so much

3rd one seem the best but they aren't very balanced

"#3: An interesting backdoor. Otherwise its just a worse version of Blitz though" Geister came first
"But that's my rating, which hopefully is enough for you..." Anything and every comment here is appreciated
"but that's because I like ROV so much..." lol I like rov more than this, and I'm no fan of rov. RoV has more flow to it, Geister is more random imo. Geister has like no balance of tight/open, it's tight there and open there, no mix or flow, I think Two Countries has a nice balance.

http://spacemarine.apg-free.de/bwtt/repDB/ here is the bwtt rep database, they have several reps on geister there. I've watched a couple and they confirm my thuoghts on it being pretty tight. I saw pvp Arbiter vs Mistrzzz and like there was no way to avoid storm at all, I can only imagine how zvp will play =/
edit: The map seems to play like a turtle map, everyone took their nat and then mineral only not long after, followed by going through the mineral wall behind nat and taking that expo; there really weren't any fights over bases, just people macroing and having fastest-style fights =/ Does kinda remind me of how rov played.

Ditto to that.

yeah so get testing templar ^_^ If anyone would want to test these maps, my msn is Nightmarjoo@hotmail.com, aim is The64man; I'd be happy to play the maps with anyone

I've played on the first and last one. They play as awkward as they look.
|
I've played 1st and 3rd one also, 1st one didn't get good enough games to tell, and I've disliked geister from playing it a long time ago, and the bwtt reps I watched didn't make me like it more =/

#2 i love the layout for main and nat (drop and muta harass wise). i like the very remote additional expansions. and i love the open space in the middle with the hills terrans can use. #3 no reason. #1 no reason.
|
The second looks too easy for tvp, high ground in middle just makes breaking pushes a ton harder
Geisterfahrer is my favourite also!
then 2, then 1 no real reason except 1 looks impossible to ZvT on, as said before
|
I favor any map that involves one base play, old school style is in for me. I like battlegrounds the best, the 2nd comes close.
|
I don't see why everyone thinks battlegrounds is impossible to FE in -.- I spose I'll try and get reps to show how it works
