That's right. September 22nd is the fourth birthday for the TeamLiquid website. On this day, 2002, 623 people visited this site. Four years later, and we set a record yesterday with 12807 visitors. This speaks not only to the strength of the StarCraft community, but of the hard work and dedication of many. Here are a few more statistics for you:
- There have been 1,444,326 posts on Teamliquid (22:32). Very impressive for a StarCraft website.
- We are fast approaching 50k threads created, of which at least 7 or 8 are unrelated to girl trouble. (Again, impressive for a site of StarCraft players.)
- As of today, we have had 23,731 registered members. Even removing Stimy from that list we are over 10k.
- Despite being a new addition, the Torrent tracker has held 656 torrents. That is 100% attributable to YOU.
- Over 1 million votes have been cast in liquibet.
In addition to these numbers, there is the human element to TeamLiquid. It starts at the top, with the original Liquid team members, and Nazgul. Nazgul and Meat created the website to be a high quality place for BW fans. Today, it has grown and changed in ways they could not have predicted or imagined. My hat goes off to them and their continued sponsorship of this site.
Next there are the people who keep the site running behind the scenes, rarely coming up for attention. PoP and Saro are two of the hardest working guys on this site, but rarely do you see them get exposure. This spot if for you two, and I thank you for all the work you have done.
The rest of the staff, from moderators, to replay uploaders, to news posters. All of them spend their own free time working on this site. As the BW community gets older, the demographics are changing. People have many other responsibilities than four years ago. It is a real sign of dedication that the staff is willing to continue their hard work at keeping this the best English BW site on the net.
Last, but definately not least, are all of you. A website such as this, which relies so heavily on its forums, cannot survive without an active and interesting community of members. YOU help keep this site alive everytime you contribute to the forums. For that, I take my hat off to you.
I hope I will be writing these kinds of posts long into the future.
Mani. (it is a two beer kind of news)
