The Complete Anatomy of INnoVation: The Rise of A Tough Rookie

In HOTS, two players got the most spotlights. They are KT.Flash and STX.INnoVation. Both players are of similar results in SPL, but based on individual league, INnoVation is now called the first Terran by many people. There is probably no denial of this.
However, a few years ago, STX.INnoVation was a representative of complete noob in SPL. His personal result was only ok during SPL 08-09 and 10-11. Even though he became the ACE player of STX Soul in the later days of SC1, his team was in bad shape. His personal performance during hybrid SPL was terrible: 3-wins and 9-losses. He had 6 SC2 games and they were all losses.
INnoVation’s rise was after the end of the hybrid SPL. And the GSL Season 5 in 2012 was the proof of his rising performance. So we interviewed STX Soul head coach to talk about the rise of this tough rookie.
STX Soul head coach: "Overall, based on SC1, INnoVation was top 1 or 2 Terran, especially during the rookie period. If it is to say that Flash's overall score was 70 during his rookie period, then INnoVation's score on macro was 90, and his strategy's score was 50, and mechanics' score was 70, during his rookie period."
"INnoVation once said to me that televised games are so difficult to adapt to."
"His result today is forged only through hard work, tear, and perspiration. I chose him only because of his macro skills back then. But he rises and work on his weak points through hard work."
"He is not a talented player. A talented player is like Nada. When I chose INnoVation, I had already found his limitations on the 'big sense of StarCraft' [not sure about how to translate], but his hard work helps him get through that."

INnoVation: Facing New Challenges and To Become the Rising Star

Who are the stars of SC2 HOTS at the moment? There are Life and Flash, but there is another strongman, that is STX. INnoVation. We went to the team house and interviewed him. It was a holiday but he was still in the team house and practicing.
INnoVation: “…I am still far from my ideal type of player. My weaknesses brought me nerves and pressures. I must do better…”
We talked about the transition from SC1 to SC2. Many players had resistance to SC2, but INnoVation was not one of them.
INnoVation: “I think SC1 is way too difficult. So I didn’t feel pressure, burden, or regret, during the transition. I only thought I need to work hard.”
“The graphics is much better. But the adaptation was hard. WoL’s Terran was more difficult to play than the other two races, so it was difficult.”
“I’m the type of player that has fast APM, good production circle, good mechanics, and good macro. So SC2 gives me more advantages than SC1.”
“WoL’s Terran was really difficult. So I was not sure whether I should have high expectation of HOTS. But the new units changed a lot of things. Terran becomes better. I’m satisfied.”
“Only two days after the release of HOTS, I needed to go to MLG. I practiced only two days and got the third place in MLG. It was fine. Terran’s macro doesn’t change much so I can adapt very quickly.”
“I don’t think I’m good at TvZ, but my teammates have been spreading the rumor that I’m good (laugh). There are tons of people who are better at TvZ. I only have higher winrates on ladder.”
“Although it’s kinda thick-skin to say this, but I can’t win when facing a great Zerg. Last time, I lost to Soulkey, right? Flash is actually better at TvZ. His maneuver and micro are really outstanding.”
“Micro is the most important thing in TvZ. Unit composition is the most important thing in TvP. But I have no clue in TvT. Medivac boost makes bio too fast. I am a little confused sometimes. My TvT is bad recently. I can't find a perfect way to do TvT.”
“I think in all the new units, widow mine is good. It has more mobility and is easier to micro than tank. As to hellbat, I can’t find the place to use it. Other Terrans use it in TvP, but I haven’t tried it. I need to do more research on that.”
“I haven’t found my style yet. So I am working on the main stream strategies.”
INnoVation said that his goal is to be a shining star who gets SPL and WCS championships. He is not satisfied at the moment and will work hard to show his skills. INnoVation thanks his fans at last and said he will how good games to satisfy the fans.
